Italy international Marco Verratti reveals that a dinner with PSG stars and Leo Messi in Ibiza sparked the Argentine's move to Paris from Barcelona and insists Inter remain favourites to win the Serie A title this season.
Former Pescara star Verratti spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport, revealing that he'd love to play in Serie A with his boyhood club.
The 32-year-old, a serial Ligue 1 title winner with PSG, also spoke about his time in the French capital, revealing that a dinner in Ibiza with some of his ex-teammates somehow led to Leo Messi's transfer from Barcelona.

'I remember a fantastic evening that turned almost magical. I was in Ibiza and Neymar came to me to say that we'd have dinner with Leo Messi,' Verratti said.
'It was me, Leo, Paredes, Ney and Di Maria at the table. We talked and had a good time. Jokingly, we started pushing him [Messi] to come to Paris. The next day, we read that there were problems between him and Barcelona, and later in the afternoon, Neymar called me to say: 'Leo is coming [to PSG]. It was incredible to have him for dinner and then become teammates.'
Messi is currently under contract with MLS side Inter Miami.
The Argentine superstar joined PSG in 2021 and spent two years in Paris before his move to the USA.
During his interview, Verratti shared his view on the upcoming Serie A campaign, insisting that Inter remain the favourites for the Scudetto.

'I'm really intrigued by Gasperini at Roma. Gasp has built something extraordinary with Atalanta,' he said.
'I hope Allegri does well at Milan, which is hugely followed here. As I coach, I have a soft spot for Sarri. He has his own style, and some of his principles remind me of Zeman. The idea of controlling the game, and most importantly, his ability to develop players.
'Last year, they really pulled off a miracle. Only somebody like Conte could have done it. For me, however, Inter remain the favourite based on the players they have. If they sign Lookman, they'll remain the strongest.'
Verratti, a Euro 2020 winner with the Italy national team, has collected 55 appearances with the Azzurri, scoring three goals.

Rasmus Hojlund remains adamant as AC Milan set deadline

Following a dismal campaign in which he netted only four times in the Premier League, Manchester United were forced to try and bring in a quality replacement for Rasmus Hojlund. INEOS splashed the cash to land Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, and Ruben Amorim opted to keep Hojlund on the bench against Fiorentina, a clear message regarding his future. The club have subsequently informed the 22-year-old to find a new club for himself even though he is hellbent on staying and fighting for his place. AC Milan are reportedly in pole position, having already agreed on a loan fee, but the Dane is yet to give his green light for the move. That has not impressed the Serie A giants. AC Milan unhappy with Rasmus Hojlund This dilly-dallying has allowed four other Serie A clubs as well as Newcastle to enter the race. Igli Tare, Milan's sporting director, has refused to admit defeat, and is in England hoping to wrap up the move. However, La Gazzetta dello Sport have now informed that the sporting director is losing his patience due to the Denmark international's stubborn stance. The ex-Atalanta ace feels, despite Sesko's arrival, he will still have chances to shine, and is desperate to prove his critics wrong after two underwhelming seasons in Manchester. As a result, the Rossoneri will wait for another week, and should the Denmark international not change his mind, they will move onto other targets. 'AC Milan is ready to close in on a loan deal with an option to buy, but the striker's agreement is still pending. 'Hojlund is a stubborn man. He's convinced he can have his chances in Manchester despite the competition. He wants to redeem himself after two so-so years with a trophy won—the 2024 FA Cup—and another lost in the final (last year's Conference League). Dane confident of making his mark 'Tare flew to England to try and secure the striker's approval, but he won't wait forever. A week at most, no more, then he'll focus on one of his other targets: Vlahovic, Jackson, and Gonçalo Ramos. 'Hojlund doesn't want to leave Manchester out of pure pride. He appreciates AC Milan's attention, loves Italy and Serie A, as well as his family. But he's convinced he can still make his mark. Furthermore, he'd prefer a permanent transfer rather than a loan with an option to buy.' INEOS are looking to conduct player sales, and with the money raised, they plan to go after Carlos Baleba and another goalkeeper. Hojlund's stance, while admirable, will not help the co-owners one bit. As things stand, this saga is likely to continue until late in the window. Ex Arsenal & Man United Veteran Declares Inter Milan ‘Will Be Ready For The Start Of The Season'

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is confident that Inter Milan 'will be ready for the start of the season.' The 36-year-old spoke in the mixed zone after the Nerazzurri's friendly win over Monaco, via FCInterNews. Inter Milan are just a couple of weeks away from the start of the 2025-26 season. The Nerazzurri kick their Serie A campaign off by hosting Torino on August 25th. It has been a bit of a compressed preseason training period for Inter. After a long and gruelling season which saw Inter reach the Champions League final, the team also played in the Club World Cup this summer. Therefore, that meant that there was less time in which to start preseason training. This could naturally lead to some doubts as to whether or not Inter will have been able to reach the right level of physical condition for what will undoubtedly be another tough season. However, Nerazzurri midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has few doubts. (Photo by) On Friday evening, Inter played a friendly match against Monaco. They won the match despite a first half red card for Hakan Calhanoglu. After the match, midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan noted that 'it wasn't an easy match, because we were down to ten men.' 'But we showed character and determination,' the Armenian insisted. 'We wanted to win this match. And fortunately we did.' 'It wasn't easy because Monaco are a great team with talented young players,' Mkhitaryan said. 'But we defended very compactly after the sending-off, and I think we played very well.' 'I think maybe Monaco were playing a little more relaxed psychologically. Thinking about the fact that they were playing with a numerical advantage.' 'That's football,' said Mkhitaryan. 'You can't predict what will happen.' 'We played until the end. And we won.' Then, the 36-year-old former Arsenal and Manchester United midfielder added that 'we still have time to prepare.' 'And we'll do everything to be ready for the start of the season.'
