Virgin Radio UK's Ryan Tubridy confirms engagement to partner Clare Kambamettu: 'It's a very exciting time to be alive'
Virgin Radio host Ryan Tubridy has announced his engagement to his girlfriend Dr Clare Kambamettu.
The presenter, 52, confirmed the happy news during the Tuesday broadcast of his radio show.
Ryan, who is from Dublin, told how the couple got engaged during a visit to the west of Ireland last week.
'I have a little bit of news that I've been keeping to myself, to ourselves,' he told listeners at the beginning of his show.
'I'm very, very, very happy to confirm I did get engaged to my partner Clare in the west of Ireland on Thursday evening.'
He thanked listeners who sent in their well wishes and said the engagement is a 'beautiful feeling' and it's 'a very exciting time to be alive'.
He added: 'We were surrounded by gorgeous people who we didn't know, strangers in the hotel, and people who were working around the place and got a beautiful ring organised, and the weather was gorgeous.
'And it's just the accumulation of a lot of lovely things happening, and I just decided now is the time.
'More to follow in terms of details and all the rest of it. And by the more to follow, I mean I'll tell my family first.
'It's a very exciting time to be alive. I'm a very, very lucky man, and I think it's one of those beautiful moments where the world feels lighter.'
O'Dalaigh Jewellers in Clifden, County Galway had posted on social media that Ryan had come to them 'discreetly' looking for a ring for a 'very special lady'.
The jewellers shared a photo of Ryan and Clare outside the store with a member of staff. However, after media queries to Ryan's agent by the Irish press, the post was deleted.
Clare was born in Leeds to an Indian father and an Irish mother. She won the annual Irish beauty pageant The Rose of Tralee in 2010 when she was 26.
They confirmed their relationship when they attended the Irish Post Book Awards together in 2023.
He was previously married to producer Anne Marie Power who he shares daughters Ella and Julia with.
Ryan joined Virgin Radio UK in January 2024 to present its mid-morning programme after The Chris Evans Show. He has also sporadically presented programmes on BBC Radio 2 over the years.
He is widely known in Ireland for hosting chat show The Late Late Show from 2009 to 2023. The show is now hosted by Patrick Kielty.

Pair's engagement proves a show-stopper for Gary Barlow
A couple in the audience at a Gary Barlow concert experienced their Greatest Day so far, when the Take That star put his concert on pause as they got Calpin and Kirsty Peake attended Barlow's show on Friday at Scarborough Open Air Theatre and were standing close to the stage as Ms Peake's favourite number, A Million Love Songs, started to Mr Calpin popped the question and was met with cheers from the crowd, Barlow quickly realised what was going on and stopped the performance so he could dedicate his song to the Peake said: "The next morning we woke up and thought, 'did that actually happen?'" Mr Calpin said the proposal had been in his mind for some months before the day of the show."It was planned since Christmas when I got her the ticket to go see Gary Barlow," he explained."She's waited nine years for it, so I thought I'd best pop the question."Ms Peake said she had always joked about wanting Barlow to attend her wedding to sing that particular ballad. "Obviously Chris was listening, because he waited for that song," she said. Ms Peake explained she had been busy filming Barlow's performance when Mr Calpin tapped her on the shoulder and took her by surprise with his proposal.
