NBA: LeBron James says won't play in All-Star game - Omni sports
The Los Angeles Lakers star revealed his decision not to play in remarks to reporters ahead of Sunday night's games at the Chase Center.
"You will not see anything from me tonight," James, 40, said. "Unfortunately I will not be in uniform tonight.
"Still dealing with ankle and foot discomfort, so I will not be playing tonight, unfortunately. You know I hate that. But I'm looking forward to seeing the format."
James, making his 21st appearance in the All-Star game, had been due to play for "Team Shaq" selected by Shaquille O'Neal, alongside stars such as Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard and Jayson Tatum.

Manchester United made it two wins out of two with a 4-1 victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League Summer Series pre-season tournament in Chicago on Wednesday. Goals from Rasmus Hojlund, Patrick Dorgu, Amad Diallo and teenager Ethan Williams sealed an encouraging result for Ruben Amorim's side at a rainy, windswept Soldier Field. United, who had opened their tour with a 2-1 victory over West Ham on Saturday, were always in control against the Cherries, taking the lead after just eight minutes through Hojlund. Dorgu curled in an inviting cross from the left flank and Denmark international team-mate Hojlund timed his run and jump to perfection to glance a header past Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. Dorgu then doubled United's lead in the 25th minute, latching on to a clever, lofted quick free-kick from Mason Mount, muscling his way into the area and sliding a cool finish beneath the advancing Petrovic. Diallo bundled in United's third in the 53rd minute before Amorim made nine changes with 20 minutes to go. Substitute Williams needed just two minutes to make an impact curling a low finish into the bottom corner to put United 4-0 up. The only blemish on United's performance came with an 88th-minute own goal from Matthijs de Ligt. In Wednesday's other Premier League friendly in Chicago, West Ham came from behind to beat former manager David Moyes's Everton 2-1. Idrissa Gueye put Everton 1-0 up after 17 minutes before West Ham recovered to equalise through Brazilian international Lucas Paqueta just before half-time. Germany international Niclas Fullkrug's 64th-minute strike sealed the Hammers' win. The result was another disappointing pre-season setback for Everton, who were soundly beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth on Saturday. "I'm not overly concerned because I don't have the players which I need and what I want," Everton boss Moyes said afterward. "We knew before we came (to the US) we were going to be really up against it. So, it was never going to be us coming here and winning." "At the moment we're not ready to perform well enough in this tournament, and we're not ready to start the Premier League season." The four-team competition concludes in Atlanta on Sunday, with United facing Everton and West Ham taking on Bournemouth. From 1987 to now: Kenya's young journalists embrace CHAN 2024 spotlight
When Kenya last hosted a major continental sporting event—the All-Africa Games in 1987—many of the country's current sports journalists hadn't even been born. Some were toddlers, others only dreams in their parents' minds. Now, nearly four decades later, a new generation of reporters will live their own moment of history as Kenya co-hosts the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, alongside neighbors Uganda and Tanzania. For young and seasoned journalists alike, the month-long tournament is more than just another assignment—it's a powerful symbol of pride, opportunity, and long-awaited fulfillment. 'This is a big opportunity. It's been a long time coming and is a great build-up to AFCON 2027,' says Jeff Kinyanjui, veteran journalist and Head of Communications at Football Kenya Federation (FKF). 'This tournament offers local media personnel a platform to learn CAF operations and tournament coverage. It's also a chance to interact with some of the continent's brightest football talents—many of whom could go on to become world-class stars.' From Missed Chances to a Defining Moment Kenya came close to hosting major football events twice before—AFCON 1996 and CHAN 2018—but both were lost due to unpreparedness. CHAN 2024 now marks a redemptive moment not only for Kenyan football but also for its growing media ecosystem. 'It's not just about journalism,' Kinyanjui adds. 'It's about capacity building for the whole East African region and fostering continental connections. It has been a tough learning curve for most of us, beginning with the accreditation processes like accessing the media channel and all. "For most of our colleagues, this is their first time experiencing this. We have learnt a lot even before the first ball is kicked on the field.' A Long Journey from Radio to the Press Box Veteran broadcaster Daniel Wahome, now a senior editor at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), recalls listening to the 1987 All-Africa Games on a radio at his grandfather's homestead. CHAN 2024 completes a full-circle moment for him. 'It's an incredible honor. Not just to witness this moment but to help shape it. This is also our chance to tell the East African story—our culture, our people—and share it with the world,' Wahome reflects. Covering Home Soil Feels Different Veteran editor Chris Mbaisi, former president of the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK), has reported from the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. But even with over 25 years in the profession, CHAN 2024 strikes a special chord. 'There's nothing quite like covering a tournament your own country is hosting. It's personal. It's a moment of pride—and a chance to tell Kenya's story our way,' Mbaisi says. A Generation's First Big Break For 25-year-old digital media reporter Tabitha Makumi, CHAN 2024 is more than just a tournament—it's a career milestone. 'It feels surreal to walk into a stadium and cover these games as a journalist,' she says. 'This is a chance to showcase young Kenyan talent and tell Africa's football story to the world. It also allows us to exchange ideas with colleagues from across the continent. For example, I get to learn how a journalist from Nigeria connects with their audience, and share how we do it here and so on. "It's a beautiful blend of storytelling cultures. Over and beyond, it will be a proud moment for me to put it in my CV that I was part of this CHAN.' A Celebration of Storytelling and Continental Culture CAF has accredited over 250 Kenyan journalists, with nearly 800 media professionals expected to cover the tournament across the three host nations. For Kenya's media, CHAN 2024 represents more than football—it's a generational leap, a cultural statement, and a shared moment of African unity.

Swimming: Marchand smashes long-standing 200m medley world record - Omni sports
Leon Marchand said it would take a few months for it to sink in after smashing the 200m individual medley world record in Singapore on Wednesday, two years after beating Michael Phelps's 400m mark. Swimming in the semi-finals at the world championships, the 23-year-old Frenchman clocked 1min 52.69sec to wipe more than a second off the previous 200m IM record of 1:54.00 set by Ryan Lochte in 2011. Marchand now owns both medley world records after taking down Phelps's 400m mark at the 2023 world championships. That time had stood since the 2008 Beijing Olympics and was the American great's last remaining record. Marchand became a national hero in France after winning four individual golds at the Paris Olympics a year ago. He said it would take time to come to terms with his latest feat. "I'm going to try to sleep well tonight," he said. "It's going to be tough tomorrow but the final is going to be cool. "I'm going to try to understand what I've just done. It may take a few months, and after I'll look at what's next." Marchand took an extended break from swimming after his Paris Olympics heroics and only returned to competition in May. He is focusing on the medley events in Singapore and had said he was going for Lochte's record. Marchand got his world championship campaign under way on Wednesday morning, clocking a time of 1:57.63 in the heats. He said he would go all-out for the record in the semi-finals rather than conserve his energy for Thursday's final "For me it's a victory," he said. "I still have a little trouble believing it but I'm so happy, it was so good. It's all the strength work that I've done this year."
