Sharp escalation in U.S. tariffs will hit exporters in Karnataka, especially MSMEs: FKCCI
'This sharp escalation in tariffs will significantly affect our exporters, particularly MSMEs, which form the backbone of India's industrial and manufacturing sectors,' Uma Reddy, senior vice-president, FKCCI, told The Hindu.
With tighter margins and less room to absorb cost shocks, MSMEs were especially vulnerable to such policy shifts, she said, adding, 'the increased duties would make Indian goods less competitive in the U.S. market, potentially leading to a decline in export orders, disruptions in cash flow and a slowdown in production.''
However, Ms. Reddy said that the FKCCI also would like to consider this as a turning point for the Indian industry.
Time to recalibrate
'Tariff hikes, while challenging, push our MSMEs to recalibrate and reduce dependency on a single market. We encourage our members to explore newer geographies, enhance product innovation, and invest in quality and compliance to meet diverse global standards,' she urged exporting MSMEs.
According to Ms. Reddy, this situation brought out by Mr. Trump was an opportunity for India to assert its position as a reliable, agile, and value-driven manufacturing hub.
'We are confident that the Centre will engage proactively and negotiate with the U.S. administration in the days to come, before the new tariffs are implemented. A strategic dialogue at the right time can help safeguard Indian business interests, particularly for MSMEs,'' she said.
Govt. help sought
She also urged the government to support the exporters community through policy intervention, export incentives, and improved logistics and finance access.
'As an apex chamber committed to inclusive growth, FKCCI stood firm with MSMEs in Karnataka in navigating this evolving global trade landscape,' Ms. Reddy added.

Built empire worth billions from borrowed Rs 1500, man who sent ex Pakistan PM Imran Khan to jail is now on the run due to..., his name is...
New Delhi: Pakistan is a country that never fails to amaze, amuse, and shock, whether it is the politics of the country, sports, economy, army, or civil society. The latest news is about one of the most influential and rich builders of Pakistan, Malik Riaz Hussain, who is reported to have had access to the power corridors. Malik Riaz Hussain had been active in the country's affairs for a long time. It is alleged that it is because of him that former Prime Minister Imran Khan was jailed. Now, he is in the clutches of the law. Who is Malik Riaz Hussain, and why is he in the news? Malik Riaz Hussain, as mentioned above, is one of the most influential and rich builders of Pakistan with access to the power corridors of the country. Now, he is in the clutches of the law. His Bahria Township is considered the pride of Pakistan, but now his properties are being auctioned. Pakistan's National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has auctioned three properties of Malik to recover the lost money. The story of Malik Riaz Hussain is no less than a fairy tale. Malik was considered the most powerful and influential person in Pakistan for years. He not only had access to big leaders but also had close relations in the army and media. Due to these relations, he often escaped difficulties. But this time, it seems that luck has left him. What is the story behind the loan of 1500 rupees? Malik's story started about 40 years ago as a contractor. At that time, his family did not have enough money to treat their newborn daughter. For this, the family had to sell their silver utensils. But after that, in 1979, Malik borrowed 1500 rupees from his friend and applied for a contract in the engineering wing of the army. After this, Malik's luck shone so much that he reached the list of the richest people of Pakistan. How did he become an outlaw? Malik spent lots of money on army officers and politicians. In return, he started getting big contracts, thereby earning a lot of status and money and getting close to politicians, judges and military officers. He used to say openly that he had bribed not only politicians but also judges and ISI officers. He developed Pakistan's first gated colony, named Bahria Town. He also got huge replicas of the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty installed on the hill of the colony. When the noose started tightening in Pakistan, he fled to the UAE. What is the secret of 190 million pounds? The root of this story is linked to a big settlement deal of 190 million pounds (about 2200 crore Indian rupees). In 2019, Britain's National Crime Agency (NCA) claimed that Malik Riaz agreed to pay 190 million pounds as a settlement of the ongoing investigation in the UK. It was alleged that this money was obtained from the proceeds of crime. Later, under an agreement, it was decided that this amount would be given to the Pakistani government. How did Imran Khan end up in jail because of Riaz? The real game started from here. Allegations were made that instead of depositing this money in the government treasury, the government of the then Prime Minister Imran Khan used it to pay the fine imposed on Malik Riaz for illegal land acquisition in Karachi. Now, Al-Qadir Trust comes into the scene. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife were accused of taking a bribe from Malik Riaz. It was said that with the help of this money, Imran Khan took land from Malik Riaz and used it for his trust. In this case, Imran Khan was also sentenced to 14 years in January 2025.

Trump tariffs impact? Viral Instagram video shows hike in clothing prices at Walmart
Mercedes Chandler, an Instagram user, has recently shared a video from inside a Walmart store in the United States, claiming that President Donald Trump's tariffs, which came into effect on 1 August, 2025 are directly causing price hikes across clothing sections and other items. In the video, which has now gone viral, Chandler walks through Walmart and shows price tags on clothes and other items with original, lower prices removed or covered up and new, higher prices marked. The video is captioned 'Donald Trump's tariffs are in full swing!" by the user who points to various products, including clothes of children and a backpack. 'Guys, the tariffs are in active effect," Chandler says. 'Look at these clothes in Walmart. All the tags have these bottom pieces ripped off, but then you find one with the bottom still on – $10.98. The price is raised to $11.98.' they said. 'This is the effect of Donald Trump's tariffs." Chandler continues, showing an outfit from the children's section marked up from $6.98 to $10.98, and a backpack that previously sold for $19.97, now priced at $24.97.' 'That is a $4 increase," Chandler points out, adding that many price tags have been covered with white stickers to hide the original price. 'If you don't believe me, go to your local, whether it be Walmart or Target and check this out for yourself," Chandler says in conclusion. Netizens flooded the comment section of the post with a wave of different reactions. While most of the users criticized this change, some comments also took a sarcastic turn. One user commented: 'Was it worth it? Are we great yet?" Another added sarcastically, 'Wasn't China supposed to pay those tariffs?" A supermarket employee shared their first hand experience of altering tags, 'When i am assigned to rip prices off of clothes I purposely leave a few price tags on so y'all can see the difference.' One user also said, 'So many clothes are coming from India and other countries and he raised tariffs to 50% so we have to suffer.' After Donald Trump assumed office in the White House, he reintroduced tariffs on a wide range of imports, arguing that these tariffs will make foreign goods more expensive which will give a competitive edge to American manufacturers. Within the last few weeks, Trump has imposed an additional 25 per cent tariff on all Indian goods, bringing the total to 50 per cent. China also faces a 30 per cent tariff, even though it's comparatively lower than India. India's textile exports to the US stood at $35.87 billion in 2023-24. Readymade garments accounted for 41 per cent of that volume. The US is India's largest textile export market. In 2023-24, the US imported textiles worth $10.05 billion, accounting for 28 per cent of India's overall exports. Apparel makes up the largest share of the export pie, Mint reported earlier.

Indian stock market data on Perplexity Comet? Aravind Srinivas, Zerodha's Nikhil Kamath tease collaboration
A quick exchange between Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath and Perplexity founder Aravind Srinivas turned out to be an impending collaboration between the finance and AI companies, with Indian stock markets potentially featuring on Perplexity comment. Taking note of a suggestion on X, Aravind Srinivas tagged Nikhil Kamath and wrote, 'Should we? @nikhilkamathcio'. He received a prompt reply from the Zerodha boss, showing his eagerness. 'Absolutely, setting up a call for Monday...' he replied. The suggestion came from an X account Prudent AI. 'Why don't @perplexity_ai team up with @zerodhaonline and add Indian stock markets to the Comet finance page,' the user suggested, turning heads of both the executives of the companies. While nothing has been finalised yet, the conversation between Nikhil Kamath and Aravind Srinivas does instill hopes of a Zerodha Perplexity collaboration soon. The chances of the two platforms joining hands will depend on if the two executives actually go on with the call and discuss the potential of a deal between their companies. The collaboration can integrate Indian stock market data into Comet, Perplexity's new AI-native browser. Launched in July by Perplexity, Comet blends web browsing with real-time AI assistance, which can read, summarise and act on live data, making it perfect for stock market tracking. 'Comet transforms entire browsing sessions into single, seamless interactions, collapsing complex workflows into fluid conversations,' its website mentions. The facility is available for Perplexity Max customers. 'Invite-only access will roll out slowly to our waitlist over the summer. New users will also receive a limited number of invites to share,' Perplexity said in July. Meanwhile, Zerodha is India's largest stock broking platform with more than 12 million active clients. A potential collaboration of the two companies could be beneficial for Zerodha, which could gain more users by embedding live market data into Comet's interface. Perplexity, on the other hand, could be closer to its goal of transforming traditional browser search into an 'answer engine' experience.
