Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain head to Italy on Wednesday hoping to get their season off to an ideal start in the UEFA Super Cup.
Spurs will be playing the Super Cup for the first time thanks to their win over Manchester United in the Europa League final at the end of last season.
PSG come in as favourites after they lifted the Champions League in some style, thrashing Inter Milan to complete a brilliant treble.
The first official Super Cup was held in 1973 as Ajax hammered AC Milan 6-1 and the event has been held ever since.
Real Madrid have won it more than any other side (6), with Liverpool the most successful English team having triumphed four times.

PSG have made it to the Super Cup just once before, losing 9-2 to Juventus over two legs in 1996.
It was a two-legged affair until 1997, with Chelsea winning the first one-legged Super Cup against Real Madrid in '98.
The UEFA Super Cup will take place on Wednesday, August 13, with kick-off at 8pm UK time at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy.
It is the home of Serie A side Udinese, the stadium has a capacity of just 25,144.
There won't be much time for Tottenham to recover after the game as the 2025/26 Premier League season gets underway just two days later. Spurs start their campaign at home to Burnley at 3pm on Saturday.
The game is being shown live on TNT Sports and streamed on Discovery+, with coverage starting at 7pm on Wednesday.
If the scores are level after 90 minutes, there is no extra-time so the clash will be decided on a penalty shootout.
Spurs are dealing with a number of injury issues before the season gets underway, with the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Radu Dragusin, Bryan Gil and Kota Takai all out.
Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie have been struggling for fitness in pre-season but have been included in the Tottenham squad for the Super Cup, which suggests they are available to be involved, at least off the bench. More Trending
PSG have left goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma out of their squad as he now looks set to leave this summer.
The Champions League winners' squad is: 'Chevalier, Safonov, Marin – Hakimi, Beraldo, Marquinhos, Hernandez, Nuno Mendes, Kamara, Pacho – Ruiz, Vitinha, Lee, Zaïre-Emery – Kvaratskhelia, Ramos, Dembélé, Doué, Barcola, Mbaye.
The 2024 UEFA Super Cup was won by then Champions League holders Real Madrid, who beat Atalanta 2-0 in Warsaw.
The match was significant as it marked Kylian Mbappe's debut for Los Blancos and the forward got off to the best possible start by finding the back of the net after Federico Valverde's opener.

Will Man City replace Ederson with Donnarumma?

Gianluigi Donnarumma's career at Paris St-Germain appears to be over after he was left out of Wednesday's Uefa Super Cup final against Tottenham, following the signing of Lucas Chevalier from where does it leave a goalkeeper favourite to be crowned the world's best this year?Manchester City are describing reports they are keen on Donnarumma as speculation. They haven't completely ruled out a move - should City's current number one Ederson leave - and sources at PSG say they would not be surprised if that is where the Italy international eventually ends European champions did offer Donnarumma a new deal this summer, but on Tuesday head coach Luis Enrique explained that he is now looking for a "different profile" of 26-year-old's agent Enzo Raiola explained that the Italy international offered to reduce his salary to stay in is a claim denied by those at the Parc des Princes, who believe the salary offered would have made Donnarumma one of the highest paid goalkeepers in the sides now hope a transfer away can avoid any escalation in tension, and the French champions will want a fee to profit on what was a free transfer four years ago. Will Ederson leave Man City? City have four senior goalkeepers on their books, which is one too many, so it is somewhat of a surprise that they are being heavily linked with suggested Pep Guardiola's side have agreed a deal to sign him, but sources close to Donnarumma have told BBC Sport this is not the case and that they have not spoken to has been heavily linked with a move to Galatasaray but City sources have said they want the Brazilian to stay in Manchester and there have, so far, been no bids or 31-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at Etihad Stadium and said at the Club World Cup in June that his "future is here".That could change if the club were to receive an offer that is worth competition for the goalkeeping jersey is extremely healthy, with James Trafford coming in from Burnley and Marcus Bettinelli signed as third choice this means Stefan Ortega's career at the club appears to be over, with City open to offers for the German goalkeeper, which would mean they would need to sign a replacement should Ederson depart road leads back to Donnarumma and although there has been no contact between the parties so far, it may change by the end of the month. Does Donnarumma to Man City make sense? How does Donnarumma compare to City's current crop of goalkeepers and would he fit in Guardiola's system? His exclusion from Luis Enrique's plans is thought to be related to his ability with the ball at his feet, but Guardiola also requires his goalkeepers to be secure on the ball and initiate attacks. Ederson is considered a great passer and has contributed a Premier League goalkeepers record eight assists in his time at the club, with four of those coming in the season just is yet to provide an assist but his passing accuracy in the French top flight stood at an impressive 85.4% last season, just below Ederson's Premier League percentage and above that of Ortega. It is Donnarumma's save percentage of 66.2% that is perhaps surprising given his 6ft 5in frame. He kept only four clean sheets in 24 league starts and conceded almost four goals more than he should have according to Opta, with his goals prevented total - has posted better numbers in previous seasons and also during the 2024-25 Champions League campaign, in which he kept out more than 70% of shots faced. He has also kept out almost one in four penalties he has faced over his career. Spanish football expert Guillem Balague said on BBC Radio 5 Live: "I am surprised Pep [Guardiola] considers Donnarumma as one of the top three goalkeepers in the world, because in the six-yard box he no doubt has something special, he sees things before the forward kicks the ball."But with his feet he is not the best, unless he thinks 'I can change that', which would be a Pep Guardiola way of thinking. It would be something he has to do as he saves and earns points for the team. I don't see him at that level, obviously Pep does, so if the opportunity arises they will get him." Man Utd or Chelsea for Donnarumma? Manchester United always knew it was impossible to address all the shortcomings in Ruben Amorim's squad in one transfer were initial soundings around Aston Villa's World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez early in the summer but that didn't go anywhere and since then, United have maintained their focus on attacking into the summer few expected the club to make three big-money signings without selling anyone significant. But now they have managed it, they do need to look at off-loading – and have essentially decided at present, any available finance will be directed at addressing the central midfield situation, not a new situation is interesting anyway. Andre Onana is expected to be fit for Sunday's Premier League opener against Arsenal but his deputy Altay Bayindir has not made a move as anticipated after he was left out of the Europa League final starting Tom Heaton has signed a one-year contract, so Amorim has experienced cover, while 21-year-old Radek Vitek and 19-year-old Elyh Harrison are very highly rated at Old Trafford and have just started loan spells at Bristol City and Shrewsbury sources deny speculation that Chelsea could look at signing Donnarumma this despite brief interest in AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan in June with Chelsea insistent that they will go into next season with Robert Sanchez as the number one option - as well as Filip Jorgensen as a capable back-up able to provide serious competition.

How does Donnarumma compare?

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been linked with a move to Manchester City after he was omitted from Paris St-Germain's Super Cup how does the Italy goalkeeper compare with City's current crop and would he fit in Pep Guardiola's system? The 26-year-old excelled as a shotstopper last season as PSG won a maiden Champions League title. Yet his exclusion from their side is possibly related to his more limited ability with the ball at his feet, with head coach Luis Enrique stating that the club was "looking for a goalkeeping profile that is different".Guardiola requires his goalkeepers to be secure on the ball and even initiate attacks. Ederson is considered one of City's best passers and has contributed a Premier League record eight assists in his time at the club, with four of those coming in 2024-25. Even so, while Donnarumma is yet to provide an assist, his passing accuracy in the French top flight stood at an impressive 85.4% last season, just below the Brazilian's Premier League percentage and above that of Stefan his save percentage of 66.2% is perhaps surprising given his 6ft 5in frame. He kept only four clean sheets in 24 league starts and conceded almost four goals more than he should have according to Opta, with his goals prevented total - goalkeeper James Trafford racked up a remarkable 84.5% save percentage last season - but it should be underlined this was in the Championship rather than the top has also posted better save figures in previous seasons and during the 2024-25 Champions League campaign, he kept out more than 70% of shots faced. He is also formidable when facing penalties and has kept out almost one in four spotkicks he has faced during his remains elite with an exceptional reach and dominance in one-on-one situations, and is not as bad on the ball as some critics would suggest. He would likely improve any Premier League team, even Manchester City.

Benjamin Sesko causes disagreement as Man Utd icon refuses to accept Rasmus Hojlund fear

Benjamin Sesko officially signed for Manchester United earlier this month, but club legends are divided on whether or not the Slovenian striker will be a success at Old Trafford Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes are at odds over Manchester United 's decision to splash out on Benjamin Sesko. Scholes fears the club is repeating past mistakes made with Rasmus Hojlund, but Ferdinand feels differently. ‌ The Slovenian international has officially put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Red Devils after RB Leipzig accepted a bid of £66.4million plus £7.6m in add-ons. With a total package worth £74m, United pipped Newcastle to the post for Sesko's signature after the Magpies launched their bid earlier in July. ‌ Despite Newcastle offering the striker a more lucrative wage package than United, Ruben Amorim's project persuaded the 22-year-old to turn down the north east and the promise of Champions League football this season. However, United legend Scholes believes that Sesko may have made an error in choosing his former club. He fears the fans will scrutinise the young striker as they did previously with Hojlund. ‌ During The Overlap Fan Debate last week, the ex-United midfielder expressed his belief that Newcastle would have been a better place for young Sesko to develop. Scholes said: "From the point of Sesko... he'll have more chance at Newcastle to develop which he needs. Now to be a Manchester United centre-forward, as we've found with Hojlund, a 22-year-old kid, you've got to be ready. "It's got to be now. And Hojlund just isn't quite good enough for that as we've seen. But again, he's not had a chance to be developed – going to Newcastle might have been the best thing for him, for two or three years." However, the former England international recognised the potential for future success at Old Trafford, but remained adamant in his belief that Sesko should have opted for Eddie Howe's side. He added: "Which club are going to be successful first? Are Man United going to win the league before Newcastle – if they ever do? Of course they are. ‌ "That's why he wants to go there, but I'm saying, from a United point of view, is it the best bit of business? I still think you're in the same boat as having Hojlund." Despite Scholes' reservations, another former United legend believes that Sesko arrives at the club with considerably more experience than Hojlund possessed in 2023. Ferdinand continued the debate on his YouTube channel, Rio Presents, protesting that Sesko will thrive in Manchester. ‌ Ferdinand said: "Now we've got someone who's not as experienced but he's more experienced than Rasmus Hojlund. He's played probably almost double the amount of games as Hojlund when he came, he's two years older than what Rasmus Hojlund was when he signed. "And he's shown that he can score goals. He hasn't gone and blitzed it and scored a ridiculous amount of goals, but he's a kid. He's young. Again, we can't expect that. I don't see him coming in and scoring 25 Premier League goals, or 20 Premier League goals. ‌ "If he comes and scores between 10 and 15, I think that's an unbelievable return." When quizzed on why he believes Sesko will fare better at United than Hojlund has managed, Ferdinand added: "Well, I think it's more hope at the moment. I think we've got to wait and see man. I think because you look at it and go, when Hojlund came and when Amorim came during the season, it's a new way of playing, a new style, a new environment. "The manager was finding his feet and also you have a number nine finding his feet. So under Amorim, that's the way it's been for him [Rasmus]. So hopefully, there's a clearer picture, a clearer identity given the preseason that we've had. ‌ "There's more goals, like I said, and players that understand the Premier League getting more experience up top, in the top end of the pitch. You'd like to think that counts for a lot going into the new season, to help a new number nine coming into the building." Whilst the two United icons might disagree over Sesko's potential impact at Old Trafford, the most crucial viewpoint belongs to the striker himself – and he certainly believes in his ability to restore glory to the Theatre of Dreams. ‌ In an interview with MUTV, the 22-year-old said: "For me, the team is great. It is getting better and better and that's why also there is just stuff that makes you come there, gives you this energy that you want to be part of. I think it's a great project, in general, and I can't wait to start, definitely. "I've just been here for a couple of hours and it's already been amazing. I can already feel that we're going to be a great family and it is a pleasure to be part of it. "It feels good, you know, the thing is it [the badge] fits well and I'm looking forward to just playing in it a lot and try to represent in the good ways possible." ‌ With speculation surrounding his future at United, current number nine Hojlund previously insisted he will fight for his place in the squad. During the recent pre-season tour in America, the Danish striker said: "I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens. I'm still very young. I think people forget that sometimes. I'm only 22. Obviously, not every striker is scoring 100 goals at the age of 22. ‌ "Competition is fine with me. It sharpens me. I'm more than ready. I'm feeling sharp, so I'm welcoming everything that comes. I think it's good with competition and it only sharpens the team." Since then, however, it appears that Hojlund has warmed to the idea of a move to AC Milan. Only time will tell if he'll be giving Sesko a run for his money in the squad this season.
