Iberia 's activity in Spain contributed 13bn euros to GDP in 2024
Iberia contributed 13.2 billion euros to Spain's GDP in 2024, supporting over 177,000 jobs and enhancing social impact through global connectivity.
Iberia's operations generated 13.227 billion euros in Spain's GDP, representing 0.87% of the national GDP and more than 177,469 jobs, or 0.9% of total employment in Spain, according to a report by PwC. The corporate contribution of Iberia amounted to 4.388 billion euros in GDP and over 34,000 jobs, while passenger spending contributed 8.839 billion euros and 142,987 jobs.
Iberia's purpose is to generate prosperity by connecting people with the world. The airline collaborates with around 20 non-profit organizations on projects primarily focused on child health, education, disability, refugees, at-risk groups, and humanitarian emergency aid.
Tourism is one of Spain's main engines of job creation and wealth, and aviation is a key player in generating prosperity in the communities where it operates. The international consulting firm PwC conducted a study on the Iberia Group's activity and its impact on Spain's economy and employment.
In 2024, the airline's corporate contribution was 4.388 billion euros to Spain's GDP and 34,482 full-time jobs.
8 billion euros and 143,000 jobs
In 2024, 31.7 million passengers flew with the Iberia Group, including 8.1 million tourists arriving in Spain – 5.8 million of them international, mainly from the United States, France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia. The spending by these tourists contributed 8.839 billion euros to Spain's GDP and 142,987 full-time jobs, primarily in hospitality, retail, and cultural and leisure activities.
In total, Iberia's activity generated 13.227 billion euros in GDP in Spain, representing 0.87% of the national GDP and more than 177,469 jobs, or 0.9% of national employment, as confirmed by the PwC report.
This figure was obtained using the Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) methodology, based on the Input-Output model, which quantifies the direct, indirect, and induced impacts generated by the company's activity and the tourists it transports. In other words, the airline contributes to the economy through its own operations and by facilitating the arrival of passengers who generate added value through spending on accommodation, transport, hospitality, and leisure, among others.
Compared to 2019, when PwC conducted its first report, the Iberia Group has increased its total GDP impact by 3.921 billion euros and its employment impact by 13,263 full-time jobs.
'These figures show the aviation sector's contribution to society, and particularly Iberia's, which brings our purpose to life: generating prosperity by connecting people with the world,' explains Diego Fernández, Strategy, Transformation, and Sustainability Director at Iberia.
Generating prosperity by connecting people with the world
Iberia is a company committed to social progress and positive social impact in the communities where it operates. Its goal is to generate prosperity by connecting people with the world, and to measure this impact, PwC used the theory of change.
Connectivity, both international and domestic, is a key element for society. The Latin American community is the second-largest foreign population group in Spain, after Europeans, accounting for 28% of the total.
As a result, Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina are Iberia's top three markets in terms of passenger volume, with three daily flights between these capitals and Madrid.
The Iberia Group is also one of the main promoters of national territorial cohesion, especially in connecting the mainland with the islands, as island routes account for 29% of the Iberia Group's domestic routes.
With the same goal of generating prosperity, the airline currently collaborates with around 20 non-profit organizations on projects focused on child health, education, disability, refugees, at-risk groups, and humanitarian emergency aid. The Iberia Group also offers 100% of its flights free of charge to the National Transplant Organization (ONT) for organ transport.
'At Iberia, we believe flying goes beyond connecting destinations: it's about connecting people and creating opportunities. That's why we work with around 20 organizations to support projects that improve the lives of those most in need. From child health to the inclusion of vulnerable groups, we strive to ensure our activity has a positive social impact wherever we operate,' says Sonia Sánchez, Communications, Institutional Relations, and Social Impact Director at Iberia.

The Ultimate Guide to Tailored Villa Experiences
Tailored villa experiences are exceptional because they offer customisability, privacy and affordability. But, you have to find the perfect one for you to realise these benefits. In recent times, travel is no longer mere sightseeing – it has evolved into a fully immersive personal experience. As part of this new wave, we have seen the rise in tailored villa stays. Cookie-cutter hotel rooms are no longer desirable. Modern travellers want a home away from home where accommodation complements their moods and aspirations for their travels. What Makes Tailored Villa Experiences Special? One thing we can all agree on is that tailored villas are exactly what you need when it comes to luxury travel. So, let's discover luxury villas with Villanovo and delve into what makes this type of accommodation special. The primary factor that makes tailored villas special is right there in its definition: tailored. This type of accommodation allows you the room to personalise every little detail of your stay. Everything from simple aspects like pillows and bedsheets to more elaborate luxuries like on-demand services (such as a private chef, yoga instructor and mixologist). Customisability helps make every moment feel intentional and made just for you. It is the primary ingredient for creating tailored experiences on your travels. In addition to personalisation, tailored villa stays are also private. They are typically standalone properties and not part of crowded buildings. So, no shared hallways, lobbies and elevators with complete strangers. These levels of privacy also mean you will have exclusive access to amenities such as pools and kitchens. You get to decide who can come in for as long as you are there. Choosing the Perfect Tailored Villa Experience for You Choosing the right personalised villa stay goes beyond finding an ideal location. Of course, you have to ensure your vacation home is close to the areas you want to explore. But what other factors should you keep in mind to find the perfect accommodation? Analyse Your Priorities The first step towards finding the perfect tailored villa experience is getting your priorities right. Ask yourself: what is the purpose of my travels? Is it for romance, family bonding or wellness adventure? Knowing your priorities helps you narrow down villa types and amenities to options that suit your stay. For example, if it is a family bonding trip, you might need a larger space to accommodate everyone. Similarly, if you are going on a wellness adventure, you ideally want villas that offer serene surroundings and in-house spa or yoga decks. So, take a minute to analyse your priorities before you start browsing potential accommodations. Set a Realistic Budget Although tailored villas are generally affordable (since you can choose what services to have), it is still essential to set a budget. However, the keyword is realistic. You need to find a perfect balance between what you can afford to spend (without straining your finances) and the kind of experience you are hoping to have. Having a realistic budget allows you to filter villas that offer the best value for your money. Read Reviews from Previous Clients Reviews from previous clients are like a window to the future. They give you a glimpse into how your stay might be. Look for mentions of how well others have had their customised stays at the location. It goes without mentioning, but if there are many negative reviews, it is probably best to avoid the villa altogether. Conclusion Tailored villa experiences are exceptional because they offer customisability, privacy and affordability. But, you have to find the perfect one for you to realise these benefits. So, make sure you understand your priorities, have a realistic budget and read reviews before making a decision. That will help you narrow down your search and find something that complements your travel aspirations.

IATA forecasts SAF growth, but urges for global policy changes
'While it is encouraging that SAF production is expected to double to 2 million tonnes in 2025, that is just 0.7% of aviation's total fuel needs. And even that relatively small amount will add $4.4 billion globally to the fuel bill. The pace of progress in ramping up production and gaining efficiencies to reduce costs must accelerate,' said Willie Walsh, IATA's Director General. The Problem with the Use of Mandates Most SAF is now heading toward Europe, where the EU and UK mandates kicked in on 1 January 2025. Unacceptably, the cost of SAF to airlines has now doubled in Europe because of compliance fees that SAF producers or suppliers are charging. For the expected one million tonnes of SAF that will be purchased to meet the European mandates in 2025, the expected cost at current market prices is $1.2 billion. Compliance fees are estimated to add an additional $1.7 billion on top of market prices – an amount that could have abated an additional 3.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions. Instead of promoting the use of SAF, Europe's SAF mandates have made SAF five times more costly than conventional jet fuel. 'This highlights the problem with the implementation of mandates before there are sufficient market conditions and before safeguards are in place against unreasonable market practices that raise the cost of decarbonization. Raising the cost of the energy transition that is already estimated to be a staggering $4.7 trillion should not be the aim or the result of decarbonization policies. Europe needs to realize that its approach is not working and find another way,' said Walsh. IATA's Role in Supporting the Development of a Global SAF Market To support the development of a global SAF market, IATA has worked on two initiatives: A SAF registry managed by the Civil Aviation Decarbonization Organization (CADO) that brings a transparent and standardized system for tracking SAF purchases, usage and associated emissions reductions in compliance with international regulations such as Carbon Offsetting Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) and the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. The SAF Matchmaker that will facilitate SAF procurement by matching airline requests for SAF with supply offers. Urgent Action by Governments Is Needed IATA urges governments to focus on three areas: Creating more effective policies. Eliminating the disadvantage that renewable energy producers face compared with big oil is necessary to scale renewable energy production in general and SAF production in particular. This includes redirecting a portion of the $1 trillion in subsidies that governments globally grant for fossil fuel. Develop a comprehensive approach to energy policy that includes SAF. Firstly, advancing SAF production requires an increase in renewable energy production from which SAF is derived. Secondly, it also requires policies to ensure SAF is allocated an appropriate portion of renewable energy production. A wholistic approach should support joint use of infrastructure, co-production and other measures that will benefit the energy transition for aviation and for all other economic sectors. Ensure the success of CORSIA as the sole market-based mechanism to address international aviation's CO2 emissions. IATA urges governments to make Eligible Emissions Units (EEUs) available to airlines. To date Guyana is the only state to have made their carbon credits available for airlines to purchase and claim against their CORSIA obligations. Focus on India India, one of the emerging economies on the world stage today, is the third-largest oil user after the US and China. India launched the Global Biofuels Alliance to position biofuels as a key to energy transition and economic growth. This includes a target for 2% SAF blending for international flights by 2028 with enabling policies such as guaranteed pricing, capital support for new projects, and technical standards. IATA will be working with the Indian Sugar & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) and Praj Industries Limited, to provide guidance on global best practices for life cycle assessment of the use of feedstocks in the country. As the third-largest global civil aviation market, India can strengthen its leadership in biofuels with the accelerated adoption of SAF through progressive policies.
