Pulp Release New Album 'More' Today Via Rough Trade
Pulp have released their first album in nearly 24 years today.
Recorded late in 2024 with producer James Ford, ' More ' is Pulp's eighth studio album and features the singles 'Spike Island' and 'Got to Have Love'. The album has been universally acclaimed by critics prior to release and is now available to buy and stream worldwide.
' More ' is Pulp's first album since 2001's 'We Love Life' and came about after the band made their live return two years ago after an extended break.
'When we started touring again in 2023, we practiced a new song called 'Hymn of the North' during soundchecks & eventually played it at the end of our second night at Sheffield Arena,' recalls Jarvis Cocker.
'This seemed to open the floodgates: we came up with the rest of the songs on this album during the first half of 2024. A couple are revivals of ideas from last century. The music for one song was written by Richard Hawley. The music for another was written by Jason Buckle. The Eno family sing backing vocals on a song. There are string arrangements written by Richard Jones & played by the Elysian Collective.
The album was recorded over 3 weeks by James Ford in Walthamstow, London, starting on November 18th, 2024. This is the shortest amount of time a Pulp album has ever taken to record. It was obviously ready to happen.These are the facts. We hope you enjoy the music. It was written & performed by four human beings from the North of England, aided & abetted by five other human beings from various locations in the British Isles. No A.I. was involved during the process. This album is dedicated to Steve Mackey. This is the best that we can do. Thanks for listening."

The death of the short-lived original lead vocalist of the legendary heavy metal band, whose tenure lasted from 1975 to 1976, was announced by his other former band, More, on Tuesday. The band wrote on social media: 'We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the great MORE vocalist Paul Mario Day. Paul was a huge part of the [New Wave of British Heavy Metal] from his time in an early version of Iron Maiden and of course his fantastic performance on the 'Warhead' album.' The tribute continued: 'He was a well loved figure in British rock music and played many memorable shows not least the legendary 1981 Monsters of Rock show at Castle Donington with AC/DC, Whitesnake/David Coverdale as well as tours with Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and many other legendary artists. Mike Freeland remembers him fondly as a 'bloody great vocalist!' It's an honour for us to continue to play his music and we will always think of him every time we hit the opening notes to 'Warhead'. We send our deepest condolences to Paul's family and friends and also the many fans around the world who love his music.' Day didn't have any recorded music for Maiden to his name, but he later claimed co-authorship of their song Strange World.

Pulp Share New Single & Video 'Got To Have Love'
'Love' is a word I was unable to say until I was approaching 40', explains Jarvis Cocker, 'I listened to love songs all the time but couldn't use the word in real life. The words to this song are me having a word with myself about this state of affairs. I gave myself a real talking-to. I have now learnt how to say it whilst keeping a straight face. 'You've got to have love'. Oh yes you have.' Pulp are pleased to announce they are releasing a brand new single 'Got To Have Love'. The song offers a second taste of the new record – the band's first in almost 24 years, released on 6 June – following their acclaimed return with Spike Island in April. "It's a slightly hysterical song that tries to talk about love as I see it now," Jarvis Cocker reveals of the track, which seems destined for immediate live anthem status when the band kick off their UK & Ireland Arena tour in June, followed by more dates – including a full North American tour – later this year. A Jarvis Cocker-directed video for the track has been created which pairs the song with footage from the iconic 1977 Wigan Casino documentary directed by Tony Palmer. Weaving the footage of Northern Soul dancers together with Pulp's music, the video underlines the 'Got To Have Love' dancefloor credentials. 'I love dancing - & this is the best footage of dancing I've ever seen. I first saw it in Mark Leckey's 'Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore' video' says Jarvis. We say: Get down.
