Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan lands major new TV role
The Galway-born actor, best known for her roles in Derry Girls and Bridgerton , will star in I Am Helen , a two-part story created in collaboration with series creator Dominic Savage.
First broadcast in 2019, the BAFTA-winning series is known for its standalone episodes that explore women's experiences through character-driven, improvised storytelling.
Each episode is co-developed by Savage alongside its lead actor.
Past participants have included Kate Winslet, Letitia Wright, Lesley Manville and Samantha Morton.
'It's an absolute honour to be part of telling the next I Am story alongside Dominic Savage – a singular talent and a storyteller deeply committed to exploring the breadth of the female experience,' said Coughlan.
'To follow in the footsteps of the brilliant women who've collaborated with him on this series feels truly surreal, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be embarking on this journey.'
She will appear opposite English actor Joe Cole, known for starring alongside Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders and for his roles in Gangs of London and A Prayer Before Dawn .
At the time of writing, Channel 4 has yet to confirm a broadcast date for I Am Helen .

‘Here We Go' TV review: This dom-com is a rare breed of comfort watch, but it's not cutting edge
It's a very English BBC comedy, but sometimes you just want something gentle to curl up to It seems like a long time since we had a domestic comedy on television. But does The Simpsons count? The Simpsons has swept all before it. Not since Malcolm in the Middle have we had an outstanding domestic comedy about your average (white) family. Maybe Outnumbered. The Cosby Show, which was very successful in its day, has been swept from collective memory for obvious reasons. And, looking back on it, Bless This House, starring the legendary Sid James – ask your nana – wasn't that great. Here We Go, now in its third season on BBC One, isn't great either. But it's very efficient. It's very well acted. And it is a pleasant watch. That is more than can be said for 90pc of what is on our screens today. (Channel 4's The Dog House is an outstanding exception, maintaining its place in the top 10pc of telly, providing its sobbing audience with happy ending after happy ending and easily overtaking both First Dates and Gogglebox. I never thought I'd say that.)

Ex-drug mule Michaella McCollum signed up to Celebrity SAS to ‘push myself'
McCollum, from Dungannon, Co Tyrone, was caught trying to smuggle 11kg of cocaine worth close to €2m out of Peru with accomplice Melissa Reid in 2013. The pair were jailed for six years and eight months after admitting the crime but were freed in 2016 after striking a deal with Peruvian authorities. I did that show for me. It wasn't, 'I'm doing this because I want people to like me' Michaella McCollum McCollum told ITV's This Morning: 'Reality type TV series, I've never really been interested in doing anything like that, but I think SAS, there's no other show like that. 'So I thought it would be a really good way to test myself and try and push myself and do something completely different. 'So it was the one show I was like, you know what? I feel like I've been pushed to my limit through other experiences. Why not try this? Never in my life am I gonna face these type of challenges.' The Channel 4 reality spin-off series follows 14 famous faces as they endure special forces training in an attempt to make it through SAS selection. McCollum said: 'I did that show for me. I wanted to improve myself and push myself. It wasn't, 'I'm doing this because I want people to like me.'' Asked if she was worried about being subject to scrutiny, she said: 'Not really, because I know that's always going to exist. 'And any kind of decisions and things I make, there's always that kind of scrutiny. So I thought, whether I do the show, there'll always be some kind of talk about that.' Speaking about what it was like to stay in prison, she said: 'It's obviously extreme, but I feel like I was incredibly adaptable, like I just kind of got along with it. 'And I think for the first part, I felt so guilty and bad. I kind of just thought: 'OK, I deserve it. I'll just suck it up. I'll just get along with it.' 'But I feel like it made me an amazing person. I came back when I was 23.' Among the other famous faces taking part in the programme are professional boxer Conor Benn, S Club star Hannah Spearritt and the first celebrity deaf recruit, Love Island star Tasha Ghouri. Airing across eight one-hour episodes, the seventh series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins will be available to watch on Channel 4 every Sunday and Monday from 9pm starting on August 3.
