Despite Elliott Marshall and the Elevation Fight Team being a solid source for training and coaching alike, Maverick's striking game has morphed into more of a backfoot, tit-for-tat style that seemingly causes issues for her inherent grappling strengths and takedown entries alike. Namajunas may officially stand at 0-1 opposite UFC-level southpaws, but her lone sample in that department is a strange one considering that it was a competitive loss to Manon Fiorot in a fight where the former strawweight champ broke her hand in the first minute of Round 1. Nevertheless, Namajunas still showed a solid ability to adapt and match stances with Fiorot. And given that Namajunas has a history or training with southpaws that range from Valentina Shevchenko to J.J. Aldrich, I suspect that she'll fair well against the more rote striking of Maverick. It's also worth noting that Namajunas is undefeated in fights where she finds the back, and Maverick – who tends to turtle to her base in scrambles – has had her back taken by a handful of fighters in the octagon. As someone who had high hopes for Maverick early, I sincerely hope that she proves my analysis wrong here. However, I have a hard time going against Namajunas in this spot.
