Broncos' Sean Payton Speaks Out On JK Dobbins' Team Visit

Broncos' Sean Payton Speaks Out On JK Dobbins' Team Visit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Despite using their second round pick to select UCF running back, RJ Harvey, there is still a feeling that the Denver Broncos' RB room could use some reinforcements. Advertisement Jaleel McLaughlin, Audric Estime and Tyler Badie are all nice complementary, auxiliary pieces, but none feel like they can be part of a hard-hitting, one-two punch with Harvey. So it makes sense that the team planned a visit with free agent, and ex Charger and Raven, JK Dobbins on Thursday. And head coach, Sean Payton, had some complementary words to say about the former AFC West rival, per Mike Klis. 'Another good football player that we've seen firsthand." Payton said to the media on Thursday, "I've seen for a while the importance of that position group. We really like the group right now we're working with, it's just another opportunity to possibly bring in another good football player to help us win.' JK Dobbins, Baltimore RavensPaul Rutherford-Imagn Image Dobbins is not necessarily an earth-shatteringly big name, but he is certainly an excellent back who would undoubtedly be on a roster right now as the RB1 - or high end 2 - if it were not for consistent injuries that have threaten to derail his otherwise potential-filled career. Advertisement Even though the former second round pick missed four games in 2024, he still managed 905 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns, with an additional 153 receiving yards off of 32 receptions. Of the backs still left unsigned in the NFL, Dobbins has arguably the best case for being a true, quality starting back in the league - and could be an excellent mentor and teammate for Harvey over the next season or two. That is, if he does end up signing with the Broncos. 'The Tiger Woods of my Life:' Luke Clanton Overwhelmed at Canadian Open

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Two of the most highly anticipated PGA Tour debuts happened this week at the RBC Canadian Open. Luke Clanton and Gordon Sargent are both in the field making their first starts as professionals. The two youngsters captured the world's attention throughout the last year and now they are no longer amateur phenoms but two more names on Tour. "Didn't sleep very much," Clanton said after his round Thursday. It was not the pressure or excitement to make his debut, but his playing partner. "Being paired with Rory [McIlroy] is no joke," he explained. "The crowds are amazing. Watching him hit drivers and iron shots, it's cool. I watched him growing up my whole life, so I guess you could say he's like the Tiger Woods of my life, and it's really cool." To start your career on the PGA Tour in a group with one of the best to ever play and another young phenom is quite the entrance. "First pro start with Rory McIlroy, it's definitely a day to remember," Clanton said. As for Sargent, he was not among the bigger groupings, so it was not as intimidating for him, but there were still some emotions there. "Some nerves and excitement. Nice to tee off early, to not have to sit around all day and wait," Sargent said on Thursday. "I was definitely nervous, but happy with how I kind of hung in there." Sargent opened with a 1-over 71 at the RBC Canadian Open. The former Vanderbilt standout was the first player to earn the 20 points through the PGA Tour University Accelerated Program. He did it in October of 2023, but decided to stay for his senior year. Volume up 🔊 Gordon Sargent hitting driver sounds different. He took the world by storm and quickly earned his 20 points with his incredible play as an amateur on the PGA Tour. Last year he made eight starts and had two runner up finishes, four top 10s and only missed one cut. They are not the only two college guys who make their professional debut this week in Canada. So to did David Ford, who finished atop the PGA Tour University rankings this season, like Ludvig Åberg did in 2023. "Puts a really good roll on it." He won an impressive five times during his senior season which shot him up the rankings and helped earn him his PGA Tour card. The former Tar Heel posted an even-par 70 to begin his PGA Tour career. "It's such a blessing. I'm pumped to be out here and making my first start with my card," Ford said. "Obviously not the day I wanted, but a lot of positives." How will their first week on the PGA Tour go? Will they all make the cut or will their weekend end early? For Round 2 of the RBC Canadian Open, Clanton tees off with McIlroy and Åberg at 12:55 p.m. ET, Sargent's group is off at 1:50 p.m. and Ford's tees off in the morning wave at 8:46 a.m. More Golf: Canadian Open: Rory McIlroy Stands Firm on Skipping Media with Harsh Retort

Keegan Bradley Offers Strong Opinion on First Ryder Cup Lock

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Back in April, Scottie Scheffler made a surprising decision. Fresh off his dominant win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, where he tied a PGA Tour record with a jaw-dropping 253, the World No. 1 had the opportunity to join his Ryder Cup teammates for an exclusive Team USA dinner. But instead, he chose family over formality, skipping the event, which also had Bryson Dechambeau and Brooks Koepka. But did it affect his impression of Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley? (Photo by) More Getty Images Not a chance! Instead, Scheffler's unmatched consistency this season has made him the first official lock for Team USA at Bethpage Black this November. On Wednesday, Keegan Bradley made no secret of his enthusiasm. "Scottie is the ultimate team player, and I have no doubt that he will be ready and motivated come September," Bradley stated. "I could not be more excited to have him as a member of the U.S. Team." "Scottie is the ultimate team player and I have no doubt that he will be ready and motivated come September. I could not be more excited to have him as a member of the U.S. Team." - @Keegan_Bradley — Ryder Cup USA (@RyderCupUSA) June 4, 2025 And why not? His PGA Tour resume the last couple of years is becoming legendary. He didn't just win at Muirfield Village—he became the second player ever to defend his title there, a feat only Tiger Woods (1999-2001) had previously accomplished. At the PGA Championship, Scheffler stormed through Quail Hollow, putting together four clinical rounds, closing with an even-par 71 to win by five strokes. His ball-striking numbers this season? Ranks No. 1 in SG: Approach, No. 1 in SG: Tee-to-Green, and Top 3 in SG: Total. If that was not enough, Scheffler's Ryder Cup history speaks for itself His debut came at Whistling Straits in 2021, where the U.S. routed Europe 19-9. Now, as a three-time Ryder Cup player, the stage is set for him to take on Bethpage Black's fierce test. "Representing the United States at the Ryder Cup has been one of the greatest honors of my career, and I look forward to doing so for a third time this September," Scheffler said upon officially locking his spot. Scottie Scheffler walks off the 18th green after finishing his round during the second round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio./And this time, he's hunting redemption. After Team USA's defeat in Rome in 2023, the stakes are higher than ever. "I will do whatever it takes to help our team reclaim the Cup and cannot wait to play in front of the passionate New York spectators at Bethpage Black," Scheffler added. Who will join Scottie Scheffler next? While Scheffler's seat is secured, the remaining five automatic spots are far from settled. Current rankings show Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, and Russell Henley as the frontrunners. But with Ben Griffin climbing seven places, sitting just 1,334 points behind Henley, the fight for a Ryder Cup spot is intensifying. Bradley will also announce six Captain's Picks in August, meaning Ryder Cup hopefuls still have time to make a case for themselves. For now, Scheffler stands alone as the first lock—but the race to join him is far from over. More Golf: Jack Nicklaus Shades PGA Tour Stars Amid Scottie Scheffler's Win
