National Month 2025 launch in Muar to draw 10,000 visitors
The event, organised by the Information Department (JaPen), will feature a mix of patriotic activities, community engagement, and government services.
Free shuttle bus services will be provided from the Bentayan Terminal and around Muar to facilitate visitor movement.
'Four buses will operate with intervals of 10 to 15 minutes,' said JaPen director-general Julina Johan during a media briefing in Putrajaya.
The main launch ceremony on July 27 will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
A highlight of the event is the Jalur Gemilang Convoy, which for the first time includes a maritime contingent with 59 fishing boats, two Marine Department vessels, and enforcement agency boats.
Pre-launch activities starting July 25 include patriotic film screenings, community engagement sessions, and the Kita MADANI Carnival, offering government services such as police summons discounts, health screenings, and business advisory for youths.
'We are engaging directly with the people, especially in Bandar Maharani Muar,' Julina added.
On July 26, the Bakti Komuniti MADANI Programme will feature gotong-royong, free haircuts, and engine oil changes at Taman Tun Sulaiman Ninam Shah.
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching will officiate the event.
The same day will also see the 2025 MADANI Community Retreat in Melaka, gathering over 2,300 members, followed by the Suara MADANI singing competition with cash prizes for winners.
The celebrations culminate on July 27 with a 6.8km Merdeka Fun Run & Walk, where the first 1,000 participants receive T-shirts and medals.
The National Day celebration will be held on August 31 in Putrajaya, while Malaysia Day takes place on September 16 in Penang.

MUAR, July 26 (Bernama) -- Visitors to the Kita MADANI Carnival at Dataran Tanjung Emas here had the opportunity to experience what it's like to be a newsreader, through an interactive activity conducted by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama). Carnival-goers got to experience reading independence-themed news on camera using a real teleprompter at the Ministry of Communications booth at the event held in conjunction with the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 campaign. Hana Fadiya Husni, 23, a final-year public relations student at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), said her first experience reading the news in public was more difficult than she had imagined. 'It looks easy on TV, but it's actually quite challenging and a bit nerve-wracking. I stumbled a few times because I was nervous, but overall, it was a fun experience. I'd love to try again if given the chance, perhaps in the sports segment,' she told Bernama when met at the programme today. Meanwhile, 11-year-old Alyssa Ooi Geok Seng, who had a keen interest in broadcasting, said she was thrilled to get the chance to try reading the news on camera. 'This is my first time reading the news with a prompter…I was a little nervous, but happy that I could try using proper intonation and presenting style, like a real newsreader. If given another chance, I want to improve,' said the Year Five student, who aspires to be a journalist in the future. The Kita MADANI Carnival is one of the side events held in conjunction with the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 campaign, which will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tomorrow. SMK Kunak Jaya (Team A) was the runner-up, followed by SMK Putatan in third place. SMK Bandau Kota Marudu, SMK Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu and SMK Menumbok Kuala Penyu secured fourth, fifth, and sixth places respectively. Deputy Director of Information, Supian Musa, stated that the competition aimed to foster love and pride as Malaysians, especially among school students. 'Additionally, they can learn about national art figures and personalities related to the country's development. Through this competition, they also discover the sacrifices these figures made for the nation in the struggle for independence, as well as their contributions to our country's arts and culture. With this event, students gain awareness of the dedication and services rendered by these icons,' he told the media after the judging session for the Sabah State-level National Storytelling Competition Finals here on Tuesday. The official announcement of the competition results was made on the Sabah State Information Department's Facebook page on Saturday. Supian, who is also the chief judge of the competition, added that such contests amplify patriotic spirit and love for the Jalur Gemilang (Malaysian flag) in conjunction with the upcoming National Day on August 31. 'What I've observed after over five years as chief judge is that teams are showing improvement in their ability to creatively interpret history and stories about their chosen figures. We hope students will deeply appreciate these figures and subsequently communicate their stories through theater,' he said. As champions, SMK Kunak Jaya (B) will represent Sabah in the video-recorded National-level Storytelling Competition in August. The top six teams will then compete in person on September 16.

Tawau lass to represent Sabah at National Bintang Kecil 2025 Finals

She was crowned Best Participant of the Sabah Zone in the recent Debaran Bintang Kecil 2025 round, securing her place in the finals. With a narrow margin, Nurul outperformed her closest competitor, Hannah Jean Roney. Both received cash prizes of RM3,000. Sabah Broadcasting Director Mohd Yusni Mohamed Ali extended his congratulations, expressing hope that Sabah's representative would shine at the national level. 'I congratulate all participants who delivered their best performances today, especially Nurul from Tawau. She gave an exceptional performance and deserves to represent the Sabah Zone at the national level. I hope this victory will lead to greater success in Sarawak later,' he said.
