Wrestling fans say 'prayers have been answered' as WWE icon returns home

Metro18-07-2025
A WWE legend is set for an emotional homecoming this weekend after almost 12 years.
AJ Styles made his name in TNA Wrestling and inspired an entire generation as he changed the business forever in the X-Division.
It's been over a decade since he left to wrestle in Japan before joining WWE in 2016, but now he's been all but confirmed for Sunday's Slammiversary event.
At the end of last night's TNA show, a vignette played showing a mystery box as flashes of the Phenomenal One's matches appeared on screen.
As the box opened, the video showed Styles' wrestling gear with an unseen person blowing the dust off them before the Slammiversary logo appeared on screen.
'Our prayers have been answered,' wrote @SDevilleLive, while fellow fan @jimmyyso bad said: 'AJ Styles coming back is wild. No one did it like him in TNA. Slammiversary just shot up on my must-watch.'
And @MCookMrF said: 'TNA needs closure. AJ's departure has been hanging over them for 11 years and finally regaining the soul of the promotion in some capacity is huge. Good for them.'
This comes days after TNA Wrestling President Carlos Silva hinted fans should expect a 'phenomenal' night on Sunday.
It's not known exactly what Styles will be doing at Slammiversary, but his gear being dusted off certainly seems like a match is on the cards at some point.
Before the blatant teases, Silva opened up to Metro about the desire to use major, main roster WWE superstars on TNA events as the partnership continues to blossom.
'100% It's all part of the partnership, and how wrestlers, you know, move up, down, sideways,' he admitted. 'We'll continue to do it.'
And after 2025 has already seen some incredible moments, including a WWE star winning the TNA Wrestling World Title, it seems anything is possible.

'When you can have Joe Henry run into WrestleMania with the TNA belt, you know that nothing's off limits,' he said.
''And you know that everyone at all the different levels are just thinking about, 'What can we do to create great fan experiences?' And I really think that's the thinking there.
'I don't think there's anything off the table… And, and it's nice to see, because so far it's been easy, and so far it's been great. So we're gonna keep it rolling together.'
There are reports more main roster stars could be on the way, while Styles looks to have done a U-turn in his own mind after previously dismissing the idea of returning to TNA for a match. More Trending
'I think this would be a good place to end my career, in the WWE,' he told Metro over WrestleMania weekend in Philadelphia back in April 2024.
At the time, he insisted any return to TNA would be something that didn't 'involve wrestling', but plans have clearly changed as he nears the end of his career.

Reports claim that medics were sent to Hulk's home after getting a call regarding someone suffering an alleged cardiac arrest. Hulk was 71 years old. ‌ Hulk shared two children – daughter, Brooke and son Nick – with ex wife Linda Hogan. Days after Hulk's death, Nick posted a carousel of pictures of him and his dad and thanked everyone for reaching out during this "overwhelming and extremely difficult" time. ‌ Nick wrote, "Hearing so many kind words and stories about my dad's life, interactions and experiences with everyone has been incredible and comforting. ‌ "My dad was the most incredible person I've ever known and will always be my hero. He was the most kind, loving and amazing father anybody could ask for. I feel so blessed to have had the greatest dad in the world. He was not only the best dad but also my mentor and my best friend. "He always has been my best friend and I love him and miss him more than I could ever explain. I thanked him for everything he has ever done for me and told him how much I loved him and hugged him every chance I got. I spent a lot of time with him the past few years after moving back to Florida to be closer to him and I am so grateful for those memories. They are the best moments in my life. "I would do anything to have him back but I know now that he will always be watching over me. I will always remember the lessons and advice he gave me and carry on in a way that I know would make him proud. Thank you for being the best dad in the world and thank you for being my best friend. I love you so much Big Dog and I will miss you forever." ‌ On Friday, in the first live event since his death, the WWE remembered Hogan in a poignant memorial before kicking off SmackDown. A number of WWE figures looked visibly emotional during the 10-bell salute, including his former manager Jimmy Hart, who was seen wiping away tears. The likes of Randy Orton, Logan Paul, Charlotte Flair and Cody Rhodes were also seen paying their respects to Hogan on the stage.

Top WWE SummerSlam match at risk with top star 'blocked from entering US'

A major WWE match announced for SummerSlam 2025 is in serious jeopardy after a top superstar wasn't allowed to travel back to the United States. On the first night of the August 2 and 3 double header, Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul are set to face Randy Orton and Grammy Award-winning singer Jelly Roll in a tag team match. McIntyre, known as the Scottish Warrior, has been back in the UK for a friend's wedding in England over the weekend, but he's now claimed he was stopped from boarding his flight back to the US where he has lived for a number of years. 'There's now a good chance I don't make #SummerSlam,' he captioned a video on X as he talking into his phone camera from a field. 'It's quite a week I've had. You wanna know how it's been capped off? i can't get back into America, They wouldn't let me board my flight,' he said in the video. 'I'm in England still, at my buddy's wedding – what a wedding it was. Planning to go back, train for SummerSlam, but no, no, no, no, I got blocked. **Warning – the below video includes strong language** 'Wife and I walked up to the gate, trying to check in, always goes perfectly fine. Not this time.' McIntyre noted that there was an issue with his documentation, despite never having a problem any of the other times he's been travelling. He continued: ''Drew, you don't have your US passport. I know who you are. I know you've lived there for a long time, I know you're showing me pictures of your US passport, and your global entry. ''I know exactly who you are, your property and the likes. But no, we can't let you in the country buddy. 'So my wife and I panic, we say we've got a sick animal at home, we're good people, we care about our animals, we care about people. In the end, his wife travelled back alone 'against her will' to see their pet cat, while McIntyre had to turn around and leave the airport. Ever the professional, the former world champion used the real life incident to continue his on-screen feud with Jelly Roll. 'Here I am. So what happened, what changed this trip? Jelly Roll. You know somebody, got some connections? You've got your 15 minutes of fame right now, can get away with some stuff? You're hot, soon you will not be, so you're getting it in when you can,' he quipped. 'You realised when I took off my shirt on SmackDown, you went , 'Oh my God! All that aura, I'm screwed!' So you screw up my training for SummerSlam week. More Trending 'Why am I in a field? I don't know what I'm in a field but I can tell you one thing! When this is all over, I'm gonna get back, and I'm gonna drop you Jelly Roll. 'I'm gonna make you pay. And eventually, you're gonna gain all that weight back and you're gonna look like one of these f***ers.' It remains to be seen whether McIntyre will make it back by the the weekend, or if a replacement will need to be found for the match.
