Police give investigation update after death of Gogglebox star George Gilbey

Police have concluded their investigation into the death of Gogglebox's George Gilbey, with two men who were arrested facing no further police action. The 40-year-old had been 'working on a roof when he fell through a plastic skylight, landing on the ground below' in Shoeburyness in Essex last year, a previous inquest hearing was told.
Mr Gilbey, of Clacton-on-Sea, suffered traumatic injuries to his head and torso, and died on March 27 last year. Essex Police said on Wednesday that two men, who were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, will face no further action from the force.
In a statement the force said: 'Essex Police have confirmed their investigation into the death of George Gilbey last year has concluded. Two men who were arrested and released under investigation in connection with the incident in Shoebury on March 27, 2024 will face no further action from Essex Police.
'The thoughts of everyone at Essex Police remain with George's family and friends. The criminal investigation remains open and will be led by the Health and Safety Executive.'
HSE inspector Natalie Prince said: 'We have been a part of this inquiry from the outset and we will continue to thoroughly investigate George's tragic death as the lead agency. This will aim to establish if there have been any breaches of health and safety law. We are in regular contact with George's family and our thoughts remain with them at this time.'

Mr Gilbey was best known for appearing on the Channel 4 series Gogglebox – where participants watch and comment on TV shows from the previous week. The reality star also appeared on the 14th series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2014, reaching the final.

Ban for Colchester Lamborghini driver caught doing 140mph
A Lamborghini driver caught speeding at 140mph (225kmph) has been temporarily banned from McKennon, 60, of Elmstead Road, Colchester, Essex, was clocked by officers doing speed checks on the A120 dual carriageway at Takeley, near Stansted Airport, in January. When they caught up with him they noticed he had illegal tinted front windows. The car was seized under anti-social driving legislation, said appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court and was banned from driving for 56 days and received three penalty points on his licence for the tinted windows. Essex Police said tinted windows were regulated by law for safety reasons - windscreens must allow at least 75% visible light through the glass and the front driver and passenger windows must allow at least 70%.McKennon's front windows fell below 30% of light transmission, a spokesperson Matthew Mehen said: "Speeding at this level is completely unacceptable and shows a reckless disregard for safety. "Excessive speed dramatically reduces a driver's ability to react to changing road conditions and shortens braking distances."McKennon was also fined with fines and costs of £1, is a national speed limit of 70mph (112km/h) on the A120 at Takeley. Why a sonic boom was heard in parts of England
A sonic boom was heard across parts of Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Kent, and London on Friday morning. The loud bang was caused by two RAF Typhoon fighter jets that were scrambled from RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire. The jets were launched to intercept a San Marino-registered private aircraft that had lost contact with air traffic control. The civilian aircraft was safely escorted to Stansted Airport, where communications were re-established. Essex Police confirmed that officers on the ground found nothing of concern after the aircraft landed.
