Student group's 48-hr protest disrupts govt operations in Naga-inhabited Manipur dists
Imphal: The 48-hour office picketing
enforced by the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM), since Monday has disrupted the normal functioning of govt offices across the Naga-inhabited hill districts of Senapati, Tamenglong, Ukhrul, Chandel, Kamjong, and Noney.

The protest, which is being carried out in opposition to the ongoing construction of the India-Myanmar border fencing and the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR), has received strong backing from Naga civil organisations.
In Senapati district, tensions escalated on Tuesday at the district headquarters when a vehicle belonging to the superintendent of police (SP) was reportedly damaged during a confrontation.
According to sources, the incident occurred after a scuffle broke out following the SP's alleged non-compliance with the protest. A heated exchange ensued between the officer and the protesters, leading to further unrest. Protesters claimed that the SP ordered a CRPF personnel to load their weapon and threatened the protesters, which, in turn, provoked them to overturn the SP's official vehicle.
The picketing in Senapati district is being led by the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) along with its federating student unions, including the Mao Students' Union (MSU), Maram Students' Union (MKS), Poumai Naga Students' Union (PNTM), Thangal Students' Union (TAJ), and Zeliangrong Students' Union, Senapati Zone (ZSU-SZ).
Meanwhile, ANSAM has reaffirmed its opposition to any decision that undermines the historical and traditional rights of the Naga people, particularly concerning unrestricted movement across the India-Myanmar border. The student body emphasized that the ongoing protest is part of a broader campaign aimed at securing recognition and respect for these rights.
Sources confirmed that the picketing of govt offices has severely impacted administrative operations across the Naga-inhabited districts, adding to concerns over governance and public services.

Fake centre promising jobs busted in Mainpuri, 2 arrested
The Mainpuri police have busted a centre, promising jobs in government offices and in the Indian Army, running near Kisni town of Mainpuri district. The owner was arrested along with a lady assistant from Orissa on a complaint lodged by aggrieved students who came from Telangana state after being cheated in the name of a government job. Addressing a press conference, superintendent of police, Mainpuri, Ganesh Prasad Saha, told the media about the network operating after students and candidates coming from Telangana state lodged a complaint against the centre with the Mainpuri police. 'It was alleged that accused Arvind Kumar Pandey used to claim himself as retired army captain and had certain photographs through which he used to fool and cheat aspirants coming seeking jobs in the Indian army but were provided jobs mostly as security guards after grabbing cash of ₹2 - 3 lakh,' said Saha. 'Such a fake centre was run previously at Ghiror (Mainpuri), NOIDA, Uttarakhand at which students and aspirants from Telangana, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Orissa used to come,' he said. 'A surveillance team was asked to verify the complaint and after tracing irregularities, a case was registered at Kisni police station under section 318(4) (cheating) of Bhartiya Nyayay Sanhita on complaint of Ashok, a resident of Ramchandrapur colony, within the limits of Kareem Nagar police station, in Telangana,' stated Saha. 'Dr Arvind Kumar Pandey was named as the accused, being the owner of the centre, Bhartiya Police Protection Force (BPPF). On May 4, Pandey, originally from Faridabad in Haryana but now residing in Mainpuri, was arrested along with Suchitra Senapati, from district Khurda in Orissa,' he said. Police recovered fake documents including fake joining letters, medical, affidavits, rent deed, agreements, Aadhar cards, sticker having Ashoka Chakra, uniform, mobile, tablet which revealed that accused had cheated 300 to 400 students or aspirants of jobs in govt offices and army, said police officers. 'Pandey was a habitual offender and had earlier run a fake toothpaste company and before the pandemic, had cheated girls aspiring to become Miss India. Pandey used to claim himself a retired captain from the army and had been prefixing 'Doctor' before his name on rubber stamps found from the centre and used Ashok Chakra in his correspondence,' stated the SP. 'After tracing such use of fake and forged material, the section 338 (forgery of valuable security), 336(3) (altering document with dishonest intent), 340(2) (use of forged electronic record), 205 (impersonating as public servant by wearing symbols) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, Section 11 of State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act and Section 20(2) and 21 of Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act,' the SP said. Police is searching for Prakash Kumar, claiming to be the treasurer of the centre.

BJP should learn environment protection from SP: Akhilesh
On World Environment Day, Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said the ruling party in Uttar Pradesh should learn from his party about protecting the environment and cleaning rivers. 'The SP government had taken a big initiative in environment protection by planting a record number of trees in Bundelkhand. Janeshwar Mishra Park built in Lucknow on 376 acres of land is a living example of biodiversity. Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Park and Janeshwar Mishra Park have trees and plants that give oxygen. An example of cleaning of rivers is Gomti Riverfront where there is a lot of activity even today in the morning and evening,' Yadav said in a statement. He was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2012-2017. 'The BJP government has neither any plan for development nor any vision for the safety of public life. Today, forest wealth is getting destroyed, rivers are drying up, ponds are vanishing. Life on earth is in danger due to global warming,' the SP chief alleged. 'The existence of more than 100 small and tributary rivers in Uttar Pradesh is in danger. Thousands of fish have been found dead in the Yamuna in Baghpat. The Gomti in Lucknow is also covered with water hyacinth. Fish and other aquatic animals are dying here too due to lack of oxygen,' Yadav further alleged. 'As far as environmental protection is concerned, the BJP government does not give any importance to it. Our forest wealth is decreasing every year. Tree plantation has been made a mere formality. It is becoming difficult to achieve the target of adequate greenery,' he alleged.

Couldn't sign letter for Parliament's special session as I was on tour representing country: Supriya Sule
Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar [NCP (SP)] leader Supriya Sule said on Thursday (June 5, 2025) that she could not sign a letter demanding a special session of Parliament over the Pahalgam attack, as she was on a tour representing India as part of a multi-party delegation. Addressing a press conference after her return from a four-nation tour, the MP from Baramati in Maharashtra's Pune district, said her party's stand was that there was no need for debate as 'Operation Sindoor' was still underway. 'When Parliament's monsoon session begins, we will be asking questions to the government on the Pahalgham attack and Operation Sindoor,' She said. The government had sent multi-party delegations to several nations to highlight Pakistan's continued support for terrorism and India's response to the April 22 Pahalgram attack in the form of Operation Sindoor to destroy terror centres in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. 'I couldn't sign the letter demanding the special session of Parliament as I was on a tour representing the country. I have shown faith and trust in my country. The tour was productive, and the leadership of all four countries — Qatar, South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia — expressed strong solidarity with India and condemned all acts of terrorism,' she said. All four countries share a close bond with India, which they consider 'the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi', she said. Ms. Sule said she had told Congress leaders that she would attend the INDIA bloc meetings after her return. The Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) is a constituent of the Opposition grouping INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance). In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 16 Opposition parties have demanded that a special session of Parliament be convened. The government on Wednesday (June 4, 2025) said that the Monsoon session of Parliament will be held from July 21 to August 12.
