Chirag made the scathing remarks after the recent killing of prominent businessman Gopal Khemka, followed by the murder of a grocery trader Vikram Jha and the murder of sand dealer Ramakant Yadav. Three murders took place at short intervals in Patna district.
Before Chirag, LJP (RV) Khagaria MP Rajesh Verma had alleged that law and order in Bihar had collapsed under the present dispensation, prompting sharp reaction from JD (U) leader and Bihar minister Maheshwar Hazari, who asked Chirag to clarify whether he wanted to remain in the alliance or not.

Patna hospital murder case: 3 days police remand for prime accused
Patna, Jul 21 (PTI) A court here on Monday ordered three days' police remand for Tauseef alias Badshah, the prime accused in the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra inside a private hospital in Patna last week. The court also sent to judicial custody the three co-accused who were arrested along with Tauseef in Kolkata and brought here on transit remand. 'All four arrested accused were brought here from Kolkata on transit remand. They were produced here before the competent court. The court ordered three days' police remand for Tauseef and sent three others to judicial custody. Tauseef has been sent to jail from where he will be taken into police remand (custody) on Tuesday for interrogation," Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma told PTI. The Bihar Police, in a joint operation with Kolkata Police Special Task Force (STF), arrested Tauseef, the prime accused, his cousin Nishu Khan and their two associates Harsh and Bhim on Saturday. Chandan Mishra, a resident of Buxar district who was a murder convict and out on parole, was shot dead by gunmen inside a private hospital in Patna on July 17 morning. A purported CCTV footage of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed five armed men entering the ICU of the hospital and opening fire at Mishra. According to the police, Tauseef was identified in CCTV footage. 'The remaining four shooters have also been identified but are absconding. A search is underway to arrest them," the SSP said, declining to divulge their identity. Tauseef was wanted by the police in several criminal cases, and also booked in Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Bihar gangsters frequently visited Kolkata, built criminal networks
1 2 3 Kolkata: Bihar gangster Tausif Raza, alias Badsha, and his cousin, Nishu Khan, have been coming to Kolkata regularly since 2023, a probe by Bihar STF and Kolkata STF has found. Arrested for murdering another Bihar-based gangster, Chandan Mishra, at the Paras Hospital in Patna along with two others, the cousins stayed in Kolkata for over two weeks last year. "We have identified several locals with whom they were in touch, and we are questioning all of them. We will also be keeping a check on their activities from now on. These contacts do not stay at either New Town or Anandapur," said a source in Kolkata STF. "The cousins loved staying at hotels and partying in bars. It was during these bar visits that Nishu became acquainted with individuals involved in Kolkata's criminal underworld. After being shot in the spine during a gunfight with Bihar police, Nishu supplied weapons to criminals for some time. We suspect he might have supplied arms to some criminals in North 24 Parganas and Kolkata too during this time," claimed Bihar police sources. Meanwhile, the four accused, for whom Bihar police received a 48-hour transit remand, set out for Patna around 11 pm on Sunday, reaching Patna in less than 12 hours. Three vehicles took the accused back, the first one carrying the injured Nishu (recovering from an unrelated bullet injury) and the next one taking back the three other accused to Patna. According to information received by Bihar Police, it was mainly Nishu who built a strong network in areas like Topsia, Tiljala, and Park Circus. He recruited his own men there, who helped by providing various logistics after his operations in Bihar as instructed by Nishu. Nishu often returned to the city afterwards. The probe also revealed that it was Tausif who drove to Kolkata via Gaya. Cops found CCTV footage of the Bihar number plate SUV entering the city after losing its track from Ruby crossing. Some social media exchanges between Nishu and a woman revealed the gang members were looking for a house on rent in the Anandapur area. The CCTV of the area was tracked minutely, and the vehicle was tracked yet again, making it easier for investigators to carry out the arrests. According to police, Nishu's friend booked a room in her own name on the third floor of the Anandapur guest house through a local acquaintance. It was there that Kolkata Police's STF detectives apprehended Tausif, Nishu, and Harsh Kumar. The police said that Nishu's female friend was released as she was not involved in any crime. However, Bihar Police are also questioning several others besides the detainees, given at least four other shooters are still at large. They have been trying to find out why Nishu and Tausif came to Kolkata after the crime at the Patna hospital. They said that they might soon move court to question Sheru Singh, who is imprisoned in Purulia jail and widely claimed to have instructed Tausif to murder Chandan. It is reported that Sheru even provides them with monthly payments.

Pension increases were credited within days. The 35 per cent women's quota change moved seamlessly from cabinet resolution to revised recruitment rules. The electricity subsidy arrived with operational clarity, including a plan to install rooftop solar systems, fully subsidised for BPL (below poverty line) families and partially supported for others. It's not merely optics. It's a bureaucratic ballet orchestrated to perfection, offering both relief and ELECTORAL ARITHMETICIn Bihar, electoral success hinges increasingly on women voters, who now consistently outvote their male counterparts. From 1951 to 2005, male voter turnout exceeded female turnout in every assembly changed in 2010, when 54.49 per cent of women voted as against 51.12 per cent of men. In 2015, women led again: 60.54 per cent to 53.30 per cent. The 2020 polls followed the same trend—59.68 per cent women's turnout against 54.45 per cent men. Even in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the divide endured: 59.45 per cent women, 53 per cent numbers mark a profound shift. Bihar's women no longer arrive at the ballot box in their husbands' or fathers' shadow—they come early and vote independently. In a state traditionally defined by caste affiliations, gender has emerged as an autonomous axis of sensing the direction of the wind, the Opposition is scrambling to shore up its pitch. The Congress, taking a page out of Hemant Soren's Jharkhand playbook, has promised a Maa-Bahan Maan Yojana, a monthly entitlement of Rs 2,500 to vulnerable women. The RJD has backed the Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party, on its part, has committed to fielding at least 40 women candidates—a recognition, perhaps, of a changing electorate that cares more about representation than STRATEGIST'S EDGEIn reserving the job quota for domiciled women and delivering on pensions and free power, Nitish isn't simply doling out benefits—he's redrawing Bihar's political map. By targeting welfare towards women, he is both rewarding loyalty and cementing future even if some of the ideas weren't originally his, so be it. As with his rooftop solar plan, Nitish is proving that borrowed light can still power a home, especially if you switch it on before anyone else does.
