SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Ceddanne Rafaela had a tiebreaking homer among his three hits, leading the Boston Red Sox to a 7-5 victory Friday night over their former star slugger Rafael Devers and the San Francisco Giants. Rafaela connected with a one-out drive over the wall in center against Sean Hjelle (1-1) to give Boston a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning. Rafaela also doubled and scored in the third and hit an RBI single in the fourth to help Boston win for the eighth time in nine games. Devers faced his former team five days after the shocking trade that sent him to San Francisco, going 0 for 5. He got a standing ovation before grounding out in his first at-bat in the first inning and hit a drive to the wall in left-center that Rafaela caught against the wall. Brennan Bernardino (3-2) pitched a scoreless inning for the win and Aroldis Chapman pitched the ninth for his 14th save in 15 chances. Wilyer Abreu hit an RBI single in the seventh for an insurance run in his first game off the injured list. The Giants scored four runs in the first four innings on a pair of run-scoring double plays hit into by Christian Koss, an error by second baseman David Hamilton and an RBI single by Mike Yastrzemski on a comebacker off Hunter Dobbins. But the Red Sox took a 5-4 lead thanks to a two-run homer by Hamilton, RBI singles by Rafaela and Roman Anthony and an error by Koss at second base. Wilmer Flores tied the game at 5 with an RBI single in the fifth. ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Mauricio Dubón scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the 10th inning, Jeremy Peña and Isaac Paredes opened the game with home runs, and the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 on Friday night. Peña led off the 10th with a single that advanced automatic runner Dubón to third. Dubón scored when Hunter Strickland, who hadn't allowed a run in 14 2/3 innings of his first 13 appearances with the Angels, threw a pitch behind the back of Paredes. Houston closer Josh Hader (5-1) retired the side in order in the ninth and Bennett Sousa retired three straight batters in the 10th for his second save. Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi gave up home runs to Pena and Paredes for a 2-0 Astros lead in the held the Astros to four hits, striking out nine and walking none, for the rest of his seven-inning start. St. Louis Cardinals No. 3 prospect Tink Hence made his first start with Double-A Springfield on Friday night after being activated from the 60-day injured list earlier in the week. Advertisement The 22-year-old held the Houston Astros' Double-A affiliated Corpus Christi Hooks hitless, allowing just one baserunner on a walk while striking out eight batters in 4 1/3 innings of work. Hence was limited to just 66 pitches in his first start since being activated, but he was efficient on the mound. Notably, the once-flame thrower's velocity was rather slow compared to what he was hitting on the radar gun last season. He only reached 96 miles per hour twice with his four-seamer sitting in the low 90's for the majority of the start - a large contrast from last year when he was consistently pitching in the high 90's while occasionally touching 100-plus. "It was a really good reset for me to really learn (about) myself as a pitcher," Hence said of the lengthy IL stint. "I think it's paying off." The belief around the Springfield organization is that Hence will make just a few more "prove it" starts before being promoted back to Triple-A Memphis, where he was slated to start the year prior to his injury.
