Marlins complete improbable comeback to beat Yankees 13-12
The Marlins trailed 9-4 before scoring six runs in the seventh inning. They also entered the bottom of the ninth down 12-10.
All-Star Kyle Stowers led Miami with a grand slam, and Javier Sanoja homered twice.
Jose Caballero, making his Yankees debut, made a key fielding error in right field in the ninth inning, leading to Miami's final rally.
Giancarlo Stanton, playing against his former team, and Trent Grisham each drilled three-run homers for New York.
Marlins center fielder Jakob Marsee made his MLB debut, going 1-for-2 with three walks, one double and two runs. Anthony Bender (3-5) got the win despite allowing two runs in the top of the ninth.
Yankees All-Star Carlos Rodon got a no-decision despite striking out nine batters. He allowed two hits, a season-high-tying five walks and four runs in 4 2/3 innings.
The Yankees took a 12-10 lead in the ninth as Ryan McMahon hit an RBI single and Anthony Volpe added an RBI double.
But the Marlins roared back in the bottom half as Sanoja singled, Marsee walked and Edwards singled to right off Camilo Doval (4-3). Caballero couldn't glove the ball coming his way, and two runs scored as Edwards reached third.
Edwards then scored on Ramirez's swinging bunt for the improbable victory.
The Yankees acquired three relief pitchers at Thursday's trade deadline -- Jake Bird, David Bednar and Camilo Doval -- and they combined to give up nine runs on Friday.
New York opened the scoring in the fourth as Stanton swung at a 2-2 slider, pulling it 409 feet to left to give New York a 3-0 lead. Stanton leads all active players with 438 career homers.
New York extended its lead to 6-0 in the fifth on an RBI single by Jasson Dominguez and Cody Bellinger's two-run single.
But Miami fought back with a four-run bottom of the fifth. Sanoja hit an opposite-field, two-run homer, and Liam Hicks blooped a two-run single that had an exit velocity of just 67 mph.
Grisham's three-run homer in the seventh gave New York a 9-4 lead.
Stowers' grand slam to left in the bottom of the seventh was nearly caught by Dominguez as the ball deflected off his glove.
Sanoja then homered off Bednar, tying the score 9-9. Ramirez, a former Yankees prospect, lined a go-ahead RBI single to cap the rally.
However, Volpe tied the score 10-10 with a homer to lead off the eighth.

Panthers' Matthew Tkachuk could miss 2-3 months if he elects surgery
August 8 - Florida Panthers star forward Matthew Tkachuk could miss two to three months if he decides to have surgery on his torn adductor muscle and sports hernia injury, he told ESPN on Friday. The two-time Stanley Cup champion reportedly has not decided yet whether he will have surgery during the offseason for the injuries he sustained in the 4 Nations Face-Off in February. He was placed on long-term injured reserve on March 2 and did not return to the ice until the playoffs, when he notched 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists) in 23 games on the way to the Panthers' second straight Stanley Cup championship. "I'm still hoping to hit the ice as soon as possible," Tkachuk told ESPN. "If I do get the surgery, it'll definitely be the first two or maybe three months if that's the case. But it's still undecided at this point." So far this offseason, Tkachuk seems to be busy. He has repeatedly celebrated the Panthers' championship in South Florida, appears on the cover of EA Sports' "NHL 26" and was one of the first six players selected for the 2026 U.S. Olympic men's hockey roster for next year's Winter Games in Italy. Tkachuk, 27, had 22 goals and 35 assists (57 points) in 52 games last season before the injuries finished his regular season. He has totaled 636 points (240 goals, 396 assists) in 642 career regular season games with the Calgary Flames (2016-2022) and Panthers. --Field Level Media

Crushed Caitlin Clark opens up on injury nightmare that's threatening to ruin her season
Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark is struggling with the first major injury of her WNBA career. Clark has dealt with a nagging groin injury that kept her out for a stretch of games in June and then re-aggravated itself in mid-July and has seen her miss each contest since - including the WNBA All-Star Game. Speaking on the 'Bird's Eye View' podcast with WNBA legend Sue Bird, Clark opened up about how she's dealing with the recovery process. 'There's just been so much to manage. … Obviously, I feel like that's been a huge part of this year,' said Clark, who doesn't have a timetable to return to the court after missing nine-straight games. 'It's just been so challenging being active and then playing four games, and then not — and then not feeling the best and then I'm frustrated about how hard I've worked in the offseason, and then all I do is rehab and continue through this process, and just trying to trust that the best I can. 'Obviously, there are really frustrating days and there are days where it's a little bit easier and you're very motivated and you're close to the finish line of getting back and being back. Caitlin tells Sue about the the challenges through this seasons injury process — Rosalina Lee (@YoitsRosie) August 8, 2025 'It's not like I have a training camp to build up to play in my first game again. It's like no, you're tossed into game 30 — like, 'Go try to play well.' It's hard, it really is.' The injury initially kept Clark out for four games from late June until early July. She returned to play four more games, but re-aggravated her injury against the Connecticut Sun on July 15. 'I think it has given me really good perspective on what a lot of my teammates and teams I've been a part of [and] what certain people have had to go through,' she said. 'I've never been through anything like this. I think that's probably why it's been so hard, because I've never really dealt with injury. 'And that's probably been a challenge in itself because when I was first feeling pain, I didn't understand it? I was like, 'Am I just getting tight? Am I just getting old? Do I need to hit a stretch? Do I need to get rubbed out? Do I need some Icy Hot? What's going on here?' 'So I think it's been a balance of understanding my body. Whether it's this year or whether it's next year and even throughout my career, I'm going to be very thankful for this moment. I know this is going to help me understand my body better.' Clark has only played 13 games this season - averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per contest. The injury will force Clark to miss a re-match with college rival Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky in Indianapolis on Saturday.
