Man arrested after Antoine Semenyo reports racist abuse at Liverpool match
A man has been arrested following reports that a Bournemouth football player was racially abused during the first Premier League game of the season.
AFC Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by a spectator during the opening match against Liverpool.
Match referee Anthony Taylor stopped play in the 29th minute on Friday and a man, 47, was ejected from Anfield stadium.
A 47-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and has been taken into custody to be interviewed, Merseyside Police said.
Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, match commander for the Liverpool versus Bournemouth game, said on Friday: "Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any form.
"We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible."

He added: "There is no place for racism and it is vital that anyone who witnesses such an offence reports it to stewards, or the police, immediately so we can take the necessary action like we did this evening.
"As with all matches, we work very closely with both Liverpool and Everton FC to ensure the safety of the public and the players."
A spokesperson for Liverpool Football Club said: "Liverpool Football Club is aware of an allegation of racist abuse made during our Premier League game against Bournemouth.
"We condemn racism and discrimination in all forms, it has no place in society, or football.
"The club is unable to comment further as tonight's alleged incident is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, which we will support fully."

Footage of the chase showed the low-flying helicopter speeding towards a motorbike less than a metre above the road. A man was later arrested for dangerous driving, taking a vehicle without consent, driving while disqualified, failing to stop, driving without insurance, and conspiring to cause a public nuisance. NPAS Chief Operating Officer Chief Supt Fiona Gaffney said the short clip did not provide full context of Wednesday's operation. She said: 'At around 2.30pm, our air crew was deployed to assist Merseyside Police after reports of a man riding a scrambler bike dangerously near Carr Mill Dam. 'The rider mounted pavements, sped through residential areas, and narrowly missed a pedestrian. 'A second male later joined him on the bike and together they continued to evade police, travelling across roads and fields. 'Our crew tracked the motorcyclist for over an hour, providing continuous updates to ground officers.' Chief Supt Gaffney explained that the crew had been attempting to land in a safe location, but decided to abort the landing after the suspect continued to flee, and accelerated in 'an accepted take-off manoeuvre'. More Trending After internally reviewing the aircraft footage, radio logs, and its operational decision-making, NPAS said it was satisfied that the crew had acted appropriately, carried out a dynamic risk assessment, and operated within all regulations. 'We have robust procedures in place to support these decisions and safety remains our highest priority. Brentford boss Keith Andrews does not know how Yoane Wissa's transfer situation will play out. Wissa was not involved in Sunday's Premier League opener at Nottingham Forest, where the Bees went down to a 3-1 defeat. The 28-year-old wants to follow Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard out of the club during the summer transfer window, with Newcastle strongly linked with a bid, and Andrews said before the match he was not in the right head space to play. 'It's a day-by-day one in terms of Wiss,' the Irishman said. 'As far as I know nothing else has happened today, definitely didn't yesterday, so as it was really. 'I have no idea what the situation will be, I have been up here since yesterday so we will deal with that during the week. 'Hopefully it can resolve itself sooner rather than later.'
