Dubai: Two men sentenced to jail, financial restrictions for drug use
Two Asian men were sentenced to three months in prison and ordered to be deported after serving their jail terms for using drugs at a workers' accommodation in the city, a Dubai court has ruled. The Dubai Misdemeanours and Violations Court also imposed additional restrictions on the defendants. They have been barred from transferring or depositing any money—either personally or through third parties—without prior approval from the UAE Central Bank, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior. The financial restrictions will remain in place for two years after they complete their sentence. The case dates back to January this year, when a supervisor at a workers' residence alerted Dubai Police after spotting the defendants in an abnormal state and allegedly consuming drugs. Officers immediately responded to the report and found the two men in possession of a cigarette containing a suspected narcotic substance. According to police testimony, both suspects were detained, and samples were collected for testing. The results confirmed that the substance was a dried herb classified as a controlled narcotic and that both men had consumed drugs. During interrogations, the first defendant admitted that the cigarette belonged to the second defendant. The latter told investigators that a third colleague, who was arrested and tried separately, had delivered the drugs in exchange for Dh10. He added that the drugs were handed over by an African man. The court found both men guilty of drug use and imposed the sentence accordingly.

Fire at Sharjah car parts centre brought under control after raging for hours
A fire that broke out at a car parts centre in Sharjah on Friday morning has finally been contained after a hours-long emergency response effort involving teams from across the country. The blaze started at a facility selling used car parts in the Industrial Area 10, a commercial district in the emirate. Sharjah Police issued a social media alert at 8pm confirming that cooling operations at the site were now under way. No injuries were reported. The force had earlier said it was working with teams from Sharjah Civil Defence to control the fire and prevent its spread. Police said they were called to deal with the fire on Friday morning, but not reveal the time that response teams arrived at the scene. "The teams began their tasks immediately upon receiving the report and are currently continuing their efforts to control the fire and prevent its spread," police said. Sharjah Civil Defence said crews arrived at the site in 8 minutes, with the swift response aiding efforts to contain the fire. The fire authority said public safety was its priority throughout the extensive operation. Gas lines near to the area were closed in co-ordination with Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority as a precautionary measure. Emergency services in Sharjah were assisted by civil defence crews from Dubai, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain.

The Abu Dhabi Police have shared a video of drivers making sudden swerves on the road, causing accidents and traffic disruptions. One incident in the video shows a car making a sudden swerve and speeding through an exit, toppling a road sign in the process. Another showed a driver trying to change lanes dangerously, nearly causing an accident and obstructing the way for other cars. The Abu Dhabi Police, in cooperation with the Monitoring and Control Center, as part of the "You Comment" initiative, broadcasted the video of accidents due to sudden deviation. The Directorate of Traffic and Security Patrols of Abu Dhabi Police has instructed drivers to avoid sudden deviation to catch the exit, and to avoid overtaking other vehicles incorrectly. "Ensure that the road is clear in case of overtaking or moving to another lane, and do not go between lanes in a reckless manner that puts the driver in danger," they said.
