Fire at Sharjah car parts centre brought under control after raging for hours
The blaze started at a facility selling used car parts in the Industrial Area 10, a commercial district in the emirate.
Sharjah Police issued a social media alert at 8pm confirming that cooling operations at the site were now under way. No injuries were reported.
The force had earlier said it was working with teams from Sharjah Civil Defence to control the fire and prevent its spread.
Police said they were called to deal with the fire on Friday morning, but not reveal the time that response teams arrived at the scene.
"The teams began their tasks immediately upon receiving the report and are currently continuing their efforts to control the fire and prevent its spread," police said.
Sharjah Civil Defence said crews arrived at the site in 8 minutes, with the swift response aiding efforts to contain the fire.
The fire authority said public safety was its priority throughout the extensive operation.
Gas lines near to the area were closed in co-ordination with Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority as a precautionary measure.
Emergency services in Sharjah were assisted by civil defence crews from Dubai, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain.

Dubai: Over 1,270 EV charging points severs more than 40,600 cars
There are over 1,270 electric vehicle (EV) charging points in Dubai that cater to more than 40,600 EVs across the emirate at the end of the first half of 2025, according to Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa). Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa, said they encourage private sector investment in Dubai's green mobility infrastructure through the launch of a comprehensive licensing system for the development and operation of EV charging infrastructure across the emirate. 'This is especially relevant as the number of EVs in Dubai reached over 40,600 by the end of the first half of 2025. This supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050,' said Al Tayer. According to Dewa's latest figures released on Sunday, Dubai now has a network of over 1,270 EV charging points. This includes charging points provided by Dewa in collaboration with its partners from both the public and private sectors. Dewa's EV Green Charger network includes ultra-fast, fast, public and wall-box chargers. To further expand this infrastructure, it signed an agreement with Parkin to install charging stations in prime locations managed by Parkin, enhancing the user experience. In March 2025, the utility services provider had around 740 charging points across Dubai. It aims to expand this network to 1,000 charging stations by the end of this year. Launched in 2014, Dewa's EV Green Charger initiative aims to provide a pioneering infrastructure for EV charging stations, supporting the growing adoption of electric vehicles across Dubai. The UAE aims to increase the share of electric and hybrid vehicles to 50 per cent of all cars on UAE roads by 2050.

Dubai's RTA opens new tunnel to ease traffic, cut drive time to 3.8 minutes
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially opened a new 800-metre tunnel with four lanes in each direction, designed to significantly improve traffic flow along Umm Suqeim Street. The tunnel forms a key part of the Umm Suqeim Street Development Project, which runs from the intersection with Al Khail Road to the junction with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The upgraded road network is expected to benefit more than one million residents across several major communities, including Al Barsha South 1, 2, and 3, Dubai Hills, Arjan, and Dubai Science Park. 'The project enhances connectivity between four strategic corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. It increases the capacity of Umm Suqeim Street to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, improves traffic flow, and reduces travel time between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road by 61% from 9.7 minutes to 3.8 minutes," said Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA. With the project now complete, Umm Suqeim Street's capacity has increased to accommodate 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. Al Tayer explained that the full project spans 4.6km and includes the reconstruction of the intersection at Umm Suqeim Street and Al Barsha South Street near Kings' School. This includes the newly opened underpass, along with a signalised surface-level intersection to further ease traffic flow. The development is part of a larger strategic plan to enhance the Umm Suqeim–Al Qudra corridor, which extends 16 km from Jumeirah Street to Emirates Road. " considered one of the most important strategic projects for developing transverse east–west roads to enhance connectivity with vertical north–south roadr,' Al Tayer said. Al Tayer also noted that RTA employed advanced smart technologies throughout the project. Drones equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) were used to collect and analyse construction data in real time, enhancing decision-making, boosting site efficiency, and reducing field survey time by 60 per cent. "Additionally, time-lapse imaging was employed to continuously track construction progress, increasing monitoring efficiency by 40 per cent," he said. The current development builds on earlier phases of the project. In 2013, RTA completed Phase I, which covered the section from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road. This phase included the construction of two bridges, each comprising three lanes in both directions, the first crossing the eastern street parallel to Al Asayel Street, and the second crossing the western street parallel to First Al Khail Road. The phase also included the development of two signalised intersections at the intersections of Umm Suqeim Street with Al Asayel Street and First Al Khail Road, in addition to three pedestrian bridges along Umm Suqeim Street to ensure safe crossing between Al Quoz and Al Barsha areas. In 2020, RTA also completed a 500-metre bridge at the intersection of Umm Suqeim Street and the entrance to Dubai Hills and Al Barsha South, as part of infrastructure upgrades for Dubai Hills Mall. This bridge features four lanes in each direction and handles up to 16,000 vehicles per hour—matching the capacity of the newly opened tunnel.
