Joe Minjares dead: The Truman Show actor dies after battle with pneumonia
The actor was best known for playing a bartender opposite Jim Carrey in 1998's The Truman Show as well as roles in sitcom Roseanne and medical drama ER. The Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead, who did multiple stand-up comedy tours with Joe, paid tribute to the actor on Facebook.
"We lost the wonderful Joe Minjares, another great from the Twin Cities Comedy community," she said.
"[He was] a hilarious human, a kind and generous man who took the Parkway Theater and created a comedy home for me in Minneapolis that is still where I hang my hat when I perform in town.
"I owe a lot to Joe for his commitment to taking a chance on bringing edgy and innovative shows to that stage that spoke truth to power. Thanks Joe for your friendship and for creating such a warm space to perform."
Joe is survived by five of his children, 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Joe began acting on screen in 1988, taking on a role in film Patti Rocks. He later landed small roles in Roseanne, NYPD Blue and the Woody Harrelson film Wilson.
Outside of acting, Joe opened up Tex-Mex restaurant Pepitos in Minnesota with his wife Sue. He also owned a number of restaurants in the Twin Cities, including the Parkway Theatre.
Jack Reuler, a community theatre owner, told the Minnesota Star Tribune: "For all his success in show business and in restaurants, Joe was all about his love for family."
His publicist and family friend Martin Keller added: "Joe had a natural writing gift and he really leveraged it in his plays. He had a look that Hollywood liked."
Born in Minnesota, Joe graduated from Central High School in Minneapolis before serving in the US Army's intelligence division. He served during the Vietnam War from 1964 until 1968.
After leaving the army, he began a career in a stand-up on the local scene. Over the years, he opened for legendary comics like Jerry Seinfeld, Jeff Foxworthy and Andrew Dice Clay among other stars.

'A living thread to the ones we've lost'
This week, we are asking you to share your stories and photos for why you fell in love with is a selection of your submissions: Joe: I watched Tottenham first because of my dad, but it was the gleaming white shirts that captured me, shimmering with faded glory. Those shirts stood for bravery, flair, and grace. We played football the right way, or at least we tried. Weekend visits to dad meant dusty VHS tapes of FA Cup triumphs thrown into the VCR, magic passed between generations. Now, the stadium has changed. My dad is gone, but Spurs remain: a living thread to the ones we've lost. When we lifted the Europa League, I actually cried. It felt like proof that loyalty and hope still matter. Tesh: I've been a Spurs fan now for 53 years. In 2004, both my children were mascots at White Hart Lane and with it being my wife's first ever time at an elite football match, the Spurs seed was sown in the family tree forever. Great feeling. The Turkish hotel they usually stay at is the Regnum Carya in Antalya, where rooms start from around £1,000 per person per night. They have been there so many times, Stacey now refers to it as her "second home". The couple have a blended family of six children. They share three kids together – Rex, six, Rose, three, and Belle, two – while Stacey is also mum to Zachary, 17, and Leighton, 12, and Joe has 18-year-old son Harry with his ex Emma Sophocleous. However, in the family photo from their holiday fans were quick to point out that Harry wasn't on the trip. Stacey posted slew of sweet snaps of her and Joe with their other five kids and wrote: "Time to make some memories my whole world 🥹 can't wait for some special time with my babies. "Got one picture of us all the second one is every photo ever happy summer everyone from pickle cottage to our second home at this point." But while most followers pointed out what a lovely photos they were, some took to the comments to cruelly mum-shame Stacey over this. One fan wrote: "Lovely family pic. Wish Joe eldest son was included more." Stacey Solomon clashes with husband Joe Swash as they reveal relationship struggles in therapy While another added: "Why is Joe's eldest son never with them." This person said: "I agree would be nice for them to acknowledge they're missing one!" Their holiday comes just days after it was reported how Stacey and Joe have made a "vow" amid "silly bickering", according to a source. It comes after "tension" between the popular couple has recently been captured on TV. Stacey Solomon's career so far Stacey Solomon has been a familiar face on viewers' screens for over a decade. Let's take a look back at her career. The X Factor (2009): Stacey competed in series six of long-running ITV singing competition The X Factor. During her time in the show, she was mentored by Danni Minogue in the 'Girls' category. The star finished in third place, behind Joe McElderry and Olly Murs. I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here (2010); In late 2010, Stacey headed to the infamous I'm A Celeb Aussie jungle. After 21 days, she triumphed to win the tenth series. It was through I'm A Celeb that she met future husband Joe Swash - who'd won two years earlier and was hosting the ITV2 spinoff. Celebrity Juice (2011―2013, 2016―2019): The star appeared as a panellist on 21 episodes of the comedy panel game show hosted by Keith Lemon. Stacey was a regular in the 21st series, broadcast in 2019. Loose Women (2016 - present): Stacey has been a permanent panel member of the daytime show since 2016. She previously made guest appearances in 2011 and 2012. Sort Your Life Out (2022 -present): This BBC show sees Stacey, with the help of an expert team, transform participants' living spaces after removing clutter. However, according to a source, the couple have vowed to take time out to remember why they're so good for each other. During their BBC reality show, the pair shared a close-up look into the ups and downs of life at Pickle Cottage and their relationship. The source told New Magazine: 'There's tension in the air and there is a bit of bickering. But it puts a strain on any relationship. "You look at those on reality shows, such as the wives in The Real Housewives, with cameras in their houses 24/7, and a lot of their relationships crack under the pressure.' Despite this, the source maintained that a break away from the cameras, however small, is just what Stacey and Joe need. The source added: 'They're worried that if they don't have a break from the cameras and the limelight, it could affect what makes their relationship special. 'They're still very much in love and are really trying to focus on each other amid the silly bickering and moments of tension, and remember why they got together in the first place – and why they're actually so perfect together. "They have vowed to carve out some quality time this summer to do that."

George Clooney fires back at critics of his ‘lack of versatility'
George Clooney has pushed back against critics who think he lacks any sort of range in his acting career. The Hollywood superstar, 64, rose to fame playing Dr. Doug Ross on the medical drama ER from 1994 until 1999. In the years since he's starred in films including From Dusk till Dawn, the Ocean's franchise, and The Descendants. Over his career Clooney has picked up numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, a BAFTA Award and four Golden Globe Awards, as well as nominations for three Primetime Emmy Awards and a Tony Award. However, he's now responded to those who question his ability as an actor. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair to promote his upcoming film Jay Kelly, Clooney spoke about his co-star Adam Sandler being a 'beautiful, heartfelt and soulful actor'. 'I kept telling the cast, 'Don't call him Sand Man. Don't talk to him like he's just some goofy comedian. He's actually a really beautiful, wonderful actor'. Because of what his pay check is, which is doing big goofy comedies, when he does these other, beautiful, Uncut Gems kinds of movies, it reminds people of that. He's not just a good comedian,' he said. The actor was then asked about people who criticise his own versatility, with the actor not mincing his words. 'Do people say that I only play myself? I don't give a s***,' he said. There aren't that many guys in my age group that are allowed to do both broad comedies like O Brother [Where Art Though?] and then do Michael Clayton or Syriana. So, if that means I'm playing myself all the time, I don't give a s***,' he said. He went on: 'I've been the beneficiary of having my career not be massively successful in lots of different directions. I didn't really get successful, in the kind of success that can be blinding, until I was 33 years old [when ER began]. I'd been working for 12 years at that point. I had a real understanding of how fleeting all of it is and how little it has to do with you, quite honestly.' More Trending Clooney won the Oscar for best supporting actor for playing a CIA officer in Syriana and was also nominated for best actor for roles in Michael Clayton, Up in the Air and The Descendants. Over the years he's also stepped behind the camera and has directed nine feature films including Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Good Night, and Good Luck, The Ides of March, The Monuments Men and The Tender Bar starring Ben Affleck. He also received the Academy Award for best picture for co-producing the 2012 film Argo and was nominated for a Tony for playing Edward R. Murrow in the play adaptation of Good Night, and Good Luck on Broadway. Got a story?
