'Murder victim', 60, knifed to death on a luxury cruise ship 'had been on a stag do': Man, 57, being quizzed over killing 'after fight broke out'
A passenger onboard a cruise ship where a 60-year-old man was found dead believes he was on a stag do, and an 'army medic' tried to save him by doing CPR.
MSC Virtuosa left on Saturday evening for a two-night cruise to Bruges but a fight allegedly broke out just hours into the journey, with the man being pronounced dead at the scene.
Lynda Hardiman-Pearce was onboard the ship when the incident unfolded shortly after the ship left Southampton that night.
Ms Hardiman-Pearce, who runs a catering business, said there were 'hen and stag parties causing chaos' on the boat.
She went on to add that she met the father of an army medic who 'tried to help by doing CPR on a guy that had collapsed', with reports made at around 8.30pm that a man had died following an altercation.
The man's body is believed to have been kept aboard the ship until this morning when the ship docked back in the Horizon terminal in Hampshire. He was from Sussex.
A 57-year-old man from Exeter, who is thought to have been friends with the deceased, has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
Ms Hardiman-Pearce added that she was on the ship for a trip to Zeebrugge in Belgium, and returned to Southampton this morning.

She said: 'On Saturday night we were in a bar onboard and I was chatting to someone whilst waiting to be served.
'He told me his son was an army medic and had tried to help by doing CPR on a guy that had collapsed but unfortunately couldn't revive him.
'Apparently, the [man] was on a stag do.'
She described seeing five police officers at Southampton Docks this morning when she disembarked.
Ms Hardiman-Pearce added: 'The cruise was full of hen and stag parties causing chaos.
'Since getting home we talked to our family, and they all said it didn't sound like any cruise they had been on.'
Another source onboard the ship told MailOnline: 'There was a big police presence when we docked in Southampton this morning.
'What apparently happened is the man was killed on board.
'Three family members, two women who might be his daughters, and the son managed to get on to the quayside to try and gain entry on the ship. The family are demanding they release the body.'
According to a passenger onboard, the trip was a 'booze cruise' to Bruges.
The men involved in the incident were said to be among a party of 20.
According to the Maritime Injury Guide, most large cruise ships will have a morgue on board and which typically has space for between three to six bodies.
Hampshire Police told MailOnline a homicide investigation was launched following the death of the man aboard the MSC Virtuosa in British waters.
The ship left Southampton at 6pm on Saturday with the reports being made at around 8.30pm that a man, 60, had died following an altercation.
His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Det Chief Insp Matt Gillooly, the senior investigating officer, said: 'We want to reassure you that this appears to be an isolated incident onboard, and we want to thank the crew for their cooperation and assistance with our enquiries.
'If anyone who was onboard has information that could assist, please contact Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary on 101 with reference 44250193676.'
A spokesperson for MSC Virtuosa said: 'Following an incident on board our ship, the relevant authorities were contacted, and we are co-operating fully with their investigations. We are providing full support to those impacted.'

‘We'll keep fighting' — Pontypridd family's plea after brother's death in Benidorm
The family of a man who was found dead in Benidorm less than 24 hours after arriving in the Spanish tourist destination say they have "been through hell", and want better support from authorities for families like theirs in future. Father-of-four Nathan Osman, 30, was found dead at the base of a remote cliff less than 24 hours after arriving in Benidorm last September. His family, from Pontypridd, told S4C's Y Byd ar Bedwar programme that they 'didn't get the support' they expected from the Foreign Office, and are now campaigning for a change in the law. Within hours of finding Nathan's body, police initially concluded that the cause of death was suicide – something which the family refutes. Alannah Hughes, Nathan's sister, said: 'We knew straight away that there was something untoward behind this story and behind Nathan's death. 'I received a phone call off a Spanish number... they said 'your brother has been found dead at the bottom of a cliff'... and that was it." As a result, the family travelled to Benidorm to gather their own evidence to present to the National Police – which Nathan's brother, Lee Evans, described as 'instinctive'. This evidence included proof of attempts to use Nathan's bank card in the hours after he died on 28 September. Their dossier also included a list of properties with CCTV which hadn't been collected by local police. Lee said: 'We've had to fight for evidence and for answers, but there is still so much we don't know.' After the family presented the evidence, the National Police in Benidorm reopened Nathan's case as a homicide investigation. Despite this development, the family feels that there was a lack of support throughout. Alannah said: 'We reached out to the police here in Benidorm... We had no help. No support from any authority'. Now, they're calling for a change of law to provide more help for families of British nationals who have been murdered abroad – with the backing of their local MP, Labour's Alex Davies-Jones. This would include a statutory framework to provide consistent communication in English to bereaved families, as well as a named point of contact. Lee told Y Byd ar Bedwar that this framework should extend to increased financial support – something which would have helped them pay the £7,000 needed to get Nathan's body back to the UK. In response, a spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: 'Our staff stand ready to support British nationals around the world. In any given year, we support around 20,000 British nationals and their families. "In cases of British nationals who die abroad, we can provide personalised support including practical information regarding processes in different countries.' For Alannah, she feels these changes are necessary. She said the family have 'been through hell' and that they 'want families in the future, if they lose loved ones abroad, to have a structure that we didn't have". 'We're exhausted but we'll keep fighting," Alannah said. Lee added: 'We can look at the family, to Nathan's children and tell them we've tried everything and done everything to get answers." We contacted the National Police in Benidorm to respond to the family's claims about the way they've handled Nathan's case, but they said they cannot comment or share information as the investigation is still ongoing.

Jade and Chantelle appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about their experience of surviving abuse at the hands of one of the UK's grooming gangs, as Keir Starmer launches a statutory inquiry into the scandal A survivor of a grooming gang in High Wycombe has spoken out on Good Morning Britain about the shocking moment she was arrested as a teenager while her abuser walked free. While on ITV this morning (June 16), Jade sadly told viewers: "I got arrested from a 60-year-old man's house. They didn't arrest him, they arrested me." Jade is one of many survivors who have bravely waived their anonymity to highlight what she and others describe as decades of institutional failure. She appeared on Good Morning Britain alongside Chantelle to talk about how they were the ones who ended up suffering after speaking out about the abuse they faced, rather than the men who mistreated them. Chantelle added: "I am still fighting for justice six years later." Jade previously appeared in Channel 4 documentary Groomed: A National Scandal. The film told the stories of five women who were exploited, raped and trafficked by organised grooming gangs, many of which were made up of predominantly British-Pakistani men. Jade's abuse began after she left her mother's home to live with her father, who she described as an alcoholic and "raging heroin addict". His drug dealers took her to parties where she was given alcohol, made to feel "special", and gradually pulled into a cycle of exploitation. On the Channel 4 documentary she showed journalist Anna Hall hundreds of text messages that began with party invitations and quickly escalated into demands for sex. She said: "I have gone home with black eyes, ran up the road naked to try and get away and they have picked me up." When asked how many men abused her, Jade replied: "It is in the hundreds, but I try not to go there." Despite being placed under a police protection warning in 2009 after repeatedly going missing, Jade was arrested just weeks later after attending another party. Although she was still underage herself, Jade was charged and convicted of inciting sexual activity on a minor. She served 14 months in prison and remains on the sex offenders' register — while her abusers have never faced criminal charges. She told GMB viewers that her abuser is still walking free, while she is now unable to go on school trips with her kids because she is classed as a sex offender. Sadly Jade's story is just one of many, as there are survivors across towns like Rotherham, Rochdale, and Telford who were ignored when they tried to report their experiences to authorities. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has recently launched a s tatutory inquiry into the grooming gang scandal. The National Crime Agency has been tasked with leading a major crackdown on perpetrators, and will be reviewing more than 800 reopened cases. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: "The vulnerable young girls who suffered unimaginable abuse at the hands of groups of adult men have now grown into brave women who are rightly demanding justice."

British holidaymaker fighting for life after horror balcony fall in Ayia Napa
Police are now investigating the incident. A holidaymaker has fallen ten metres from his hotel balcony. The 24-year-old tumbled while on holiday with pals in the Cyprus resort town of Ayia Napa The tragedy took place at around 8pm on Sunday, and he was initially rushed to the Famagusta hospital in Paralimni, but then transferred to Nicosia General Hospital - the largest in Cyrpus. A police probe into the circumstances surrounding incident has been launched, while medics who have treated him say he is in a "serious" condition. It comes just weeks after another British holidaymaker plunged from a hotel balcony in Puerto Banus, near Marbella. The man reportedly fell from a first-floor balcony at the Hard Rock Hotel on May 27. The drop was said to be the height of a third floor, and emergency services rushed him to Costa del Sol Hospital before he was urgently transferred to Regional University Hospital in Malaga due to the severity of his injuries. The Mirror reports three pals who were with him at the time have been questioned by police as investigations into the incident continue. Local reports suggest the man's friends had no idea he had fallen, until police investigating the incident came knocking on their hotel room door to break the news.
