Bill Belichick Rumor Update as NFL Contender Announces Major Move

Yahoo4 hours ago

Bill Belichick Rumor Update as NFL Contender Announces Major Move originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio recently suggested that Bill Belichick may have eyes on not just a return to the NFL, but also on being the head coach of the 2026 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
His "report'' - such as it was - centered on his claim wrote that Tar Heels general manager Mike Lombardi (Belichick's right-hand man) was going around suggesting that present Bucs coach Todd Bowles might be interested in retiring after this season.
Florio was curious what would motivate Lombardi to spread such a rumor. ... while spreading the rumor himself.
"So why would Lombardi be trying to speak a vacancy into existence? Maybe because that's one of the jobs Belichick would want," Florio wrote. "Even with all of the craziness that has happened of late, the Bucs can't be ruled out as a potential destination for Belichick. ...
"So I feel like Belichick has been eyeballing the Bucs.''

Oh.
Florio - who also this offseason claimed hilariously, "I don't like to traffic in (rumors)'' - didn't have his facts straight then.
And today? It's all even more embarrassing, as not only is Bowles, 61, not retiring ...
He just signed a contract extension on Thursday.
The Buccaneers have a coach that has won three straight division championships. Belichick already has a job with the North Carolina Tar Heels. ... even though Florio seems to write almost daily about how he "feels'' Belichick (and his right-hand woman Jordon Hudson) might leave UNC.
"Feelings'' are nice.
Facts are what matter.
The Buccaneers announced contract extensions Thursday morning for both general manager Jason Licht and head coach Bowles. This comes on the heels of another successful year for the franchise.

Over the course of the last year the Bucs have navigated multiple major coaching staff changes, maintained key veterans through free agency, drafted immediate contributors across the roster and won the NFC South for a fourth straight season. Much of that credit belongs to both Bowles and Licht. ...
And it is the height of disrespect to Bowles that PFT seems to fail to recognize that.
Bowles has kept the Bucs atop their division since taking over in 2022 and increased the team's win total by one each season. He is now being rewarded for that ... and probably shouldn't hold his breath waiting for an apology from Mike Florio.

Former Steeler James Harrison says what we all know about HC Mike Tomlin

One of the true legends in Pittsburgh Steelers lore is former outside linebacker James Harrison. The only undrafted free agent to ever win Defensive Player of the Year, Harrison ws one of the most feared players in the NFL. Harrison was also one of the hardest workers in the NFL. In fact, Harrison still trains harder than most NFL players even at 47 years old. Harrison is also one of those guys who never demanded any special treatment. But during his 10 years under head coach Mike Tomlin, he saw plenty of players who did. Harrison went on Nightcap with Shannon Sharpe and he said out loud what every fan has been aware of for a very long time. "With Mike, the biggest thing I guess that I like about him is he is a player's coach," Harrison said. "And the thing that I dislike about him is he is a players' coach to a point of, sometimes it can disrupt because it goes maybe a little too far with allowing certain things with certain players. And then it becomes an issue with that player. With Mike, the biggest thing I guess that I like about him is he is a player's coach," Harrison said. "And the thing that I dislike about him is he is a players' coach to a point of, sometimes it can disrupt because it goes maybe a little too far with allowing certain things with certain players. And then it becomes an issue with that player." Harrison was diplomatic when he talked about Tomlin. To be more honest, Tomlin has always had his favorites and he caters to them. Almost to the point of breaking his own rules to appease their fragile egos. The best example was during Steelers training camp, when the bulk of the team was staying in dorms at Saint Vincent College, former wide receiver Antonio Brown rented a huge home near campus and even brought his private chef. Tomlin preaches that the standard is the standard but historically hasn't held his own players to it and this is why this team finds itself on the wrong end of the playoffs for nearly a decade.

Putting Jalen Ramsey Rumors to Bed | Steelers Morning Rush Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's putting to bed the incessant rumors connecting the Steelers to Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Ramsey has been on the block for months without a deal coming to the forefront, and the Steelers have been repeatedly connected to him, despite the lack of an obvious fit or need. ESPN's Adam Schefter put those rumors to bed for good on Tuesday, saying it's unlikely that the Steelers will acquire the former All-Pro. Instead, it seems much more likely that Ramsey will head to the West Coast, where he'd prefer to play, and the Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams have more obvious fits for him in their depth charts. Alan breaks it down. #steelers #herewego #nfl CONNECT WITH STEELERS NOW: Steelers Now: SN on Twitter: SN on FB: SN on Insta: 5:50 Now Playing Paused Ad Playing

Derrick Henry Shows How Eagles' Saquon Barkley Can Break 'The 2,000-Yard Curse'

Derrick Henry Shows How Eagles' Saquon Barkley Can Break 'The 2,000-Yard Curse' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. History is not on Saquon Barkley's side this season. Barkley became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards last year. He was rewarded with the AP Offensive Player of the Year award and a Super Bowl LIX championship with the Philadelphia Eagles. Advertisement Now, Barkley is trying to do something few running backs have done before: build off that 2,000-yard season with another dominant year. Of the eight previous players who have rushed for over 2,000 yards, each suffered a significant decline in production the following year. Many of those backs even struggled to return to that elite level of play later in their careers. Since the turn of the century, four running backs outside Barkley recorded over 2,000 yards in a year. Only one has recorded over 1,500 yards in any year afterward. Derrick Henry, the former All-Pro and Offensive Player of the Year, recorded over 1,500 yards two years after his historic season. Just last year, Henry got the closest any running back has ever been to recording a second 2,000-yard season. Advertisement The 31-year-old ran for 1,921 in his first year with the Baltimore Ravens in 2024. Henry's ability to accomplish that feat is remarkable, all things considered. Few running backs over 30 are given a shot to compete in the NFL anymore. It's a good reminder of what Barkley could do for the Eagles. Like Henry, Barkley has battled some injuries through the years. Unlike Henry, Philadelphia's All-Pro is running behind the best offensive line in football. That is a huge difference that can help prolong Barkley's career. It's unlikely that Barkley will be able to record another 2,000-yard season in 2025. If he can get close to Henry's production in Baltimore, though, it could set him on a very similar path. Advertisement One that leads directly to the Hall of Fame. ... while also breaking the curse.
