15 Incest Storylines In Movies And TV That Were So Disgusting And Unnecessary, They Kinda Just Ruined The Entire Show
🔥 Full coverage and conversation on House of the Dragon
🚨 WARNING: First of all, proceed at your own risk — because this list discusses graphic and disturbing scenes that may not be suitable for everyone. This post also contains spoilers for The White Lotus, among other shows and movies! You've been warned!
The entire internet has been talking about The White Lotus lately — most recently, because of that shocking weirdo brother storyline (you know the one) that made its way into the plot.
So naturally, my coworkers and I began talking about how disturbing it was — and we quickly realized that there are quite a few similar storylines in other TV shows and movies. Because as much as the scene in The White Lotus was shocking, it's certainly not the first (and won't be the last) to depict this hard-to-watch behaviour on screen.
So here are a few shocking and surprising portrayals that you've probably forgotten about:
I literally cannot believe I'm writing this, but here we are.

Let's chat about all things House of the Dragon
See our House of the Dragon Discussions
1. Of course, we gotta start with The White Lotus. Basically, ever since the beginning of Season 3 — which premiered Feb. 16, 2025 — the vibe has felt way too close between Saxon and Lochlan, who are brothers in the show. And a kiss between the two of them in Episode 5 confirmed fans' suspicious (as well as, uh, even more in Episode 6).
2. I literally couldn't get through the first episode of Game of Thrones (sorry, Dad). I had trouble for multiple reasons, but one of them was just how close the siblings were. There's full-blown affairs and marriages between siblings throughout the show, because it's set around 298 A.C."Keeping the bloodline pure" and all that. Still, that definitely deters me from trying the show again, and it's caused chaos online about whether it's OK to root for these couples.
3. And in the same vein, how can I not mention House of the Dragon, the first Game of Thrones spinoff show? The Targaryens, a GOT house, are no stranger to sibling relationships as it is — but one particular scene in Season 2 left fans disturbed over the edge. Some even said the show "crossed every limit" by including the scene.
4. Now, time for a bit of a lighter one: Clueless. I know what you're thinking: Abby, that doesn't count. But something about Cher dating Josh, her ex-step-brother, feels GROSS. Sure, they're not siblings anymore, but they were once technically related. No thanks. Cher is a character known for her high standards, but I guess she just lets them go entirely when she chooses to date someone she was once related to.
I'm kinda dying to know your opinion on this one, though, so please tell me your thoughts in the comments.
5. Gossip Girl had a pretty incestuous plotline. Again, it wasn't full-on like GOT (thankfully), but it was something. Essentially, Serena and Dan — who date each other in the show — become step-siblings, since Serena's mom Lily and Dan's dad Rufus get married. At the wedding, Serena and Dan also find out that share a sibling. While Lily and Dan get divorced, Serena and Dan still do end up together at the end.
6. Perhaps the king of awko-taco sibling reveals is none other than Star Wars. In The Empire Strikes Back, Luke and Leia kiss, before finding out that they're actually brother and sister. Like, BLOOD siblings. Yikes.
Is it just me, or do people kind of gloss over this part of the story? Because the second-hand embarrassment is just too much for me.
7. Rick and Morty had so much incest in it at one point that fans literally started complaining. Morty and his sister Summer are one example, and you may remember when Beth and her clone — yes, her clone — hook up (whether that qualifies is up to your discretion). There's also an episode about Jerry getting a fortune that says he's gonna have sex with his mom.
8. Spanish romance movie Culpa Mia, translated as My Fault, is one of those movies that may cross a few lines. In the movie, the two romantic leads, Nick and Noah, are step-siblings. So it's a "forbidden romance" of sorts. I'm not sure if it's intended to be cute or not, but to me, it was just a whole lot of UNCOMFY.
9. This one is definitely on the higher end of the scale, so prepare to be disturbed if you ever watch either of the Flowers in the Attic movies. In the story, not only are siblings full-on romantic with one another, but there are characters who are products of incest in this movie (yes, I'm serious). So I guess you could say Flowers in the Attic isn't for those of us who have weak tummies.
10. Speaking of characters that are related and have a child together, we also have that in How To Get Away With Murder. This show is probably one of the wildest ones out there, and there is more than one stomach-turning storyline. But perhaps the most memorable is between Sam and Hannah, who are siblings (and are later revealed to have a child).
ABC / Via youtube.com
11. Not many people would think to add Back to the Future to this list — but that's one of the first movies that comes to my mind. As we all know, in the first movie, Marty goes back in time, and his mom falls in love with him (without realizing that, you know, THAT'S HER SON). It's gross and weird — but I do still love this movie despite that uncomfy bit.
12. More recently, in 2024, the first season of Cruel Intentions shocked us all. Since the series was based on the movie from 1999, we figured we'd get the same level of disturbing. But the romantic relationship between Caroline and Lucien, the step-siblings at the centre of the movie, felt more uncomfortable in the newer version. This was one of the shows that really started the whole conversation about why the heck incest has been all over TV recently.
13. In Sons of Anarchy, we get another instance of siblings who get too close before even knowing they're related. This time it's between half-siblings Jax and Trinity, and the storyline plays out in Season 3 of the show. The pair finds out they're related before it REALLY gets out of hand, but there are still many scenes that made us all cringe.
14. Another one you may have forgotten about — but still lives rent-free in my head — is New Girl. In Season 6, Jess dates a guy named Robby. It seems innocent at the start, but then they learn they're actually third cousins. So thankfully, they stop dating, which is a huge relief.
15. And finally, Life with Derek. How could I forget this one as a Canadian? It's possibly the biggest conversation our country faced in the 2000s. I will clarify, this was a kids' show, so nothing actually happened, but step-siblings Casey and Derek were definitely crushing on each other. And we all noticed.
This show still slapped, though.

Serena Williams Weight Loss Sparks Beauty Standards Debate
Serena Williams's body transformation is under scrutiny once again, and it's really getting out of hand. Conversations around Serena's weight change began last month, when she shared a few gym selfies that showed off her washboard abs, toned arms, and a noticeably thinner figure. After the tennis star posted the images, several commenters accused her of using Ozempic, while others claimed she looked completely unrecognizable: But despite the remarks, Serena also had a ton of people supporting her and calling out the criticism: And although many fans flooded her comments with positivity, unfortunately, it didn't stop others from continuing to spread negativity by attacking her physical appearance. On Sunday, the 43-year-old mother of two did what any woman would do if she saw a mirror while really feeling her outfit — she took a mirror selfie and shared it with the world. But the selfies seemed to trigger some people on the internet. There were those who brought up Ozempic again... ...while others believed Serena was trying to adhere to Eurocentric beauty standards like being slim and blonde, while also feeding into Hollywood's stereotypical ideals for women. The conversations around Black women and hair have always been complicated for many non-Black people, when it's really pretty simple. Women in general love trying new hairstyles, but Black women in particular seem to receive the most backlash simply for expressing themselves. Whether it's the frequency at which we switch between styles, the colors we wear, the hair that we add or remove from our heads, the accessories we wear in them, or the actual look of the hairdos, it's often viewed under a negative light until someone else does it. It happened when Serena first hit the court sporting colorful beads in her hair, and it's still happening today with blonde hair that she's been rocking for over a decade. But alleging that Serena wearing a specific hair color is a form of "white appropriation" is just weird and harmful. I also believe this way of thinking is rooted in ignorance, in the sense that someone who isn't familiar with how deep-rooted experimentation with hair in the Black community is, and how it was once used to signify status, a way to take a political stance, and more. Before I go on a tangent, let's get back to Serena! Outside of the backlash, the Olympian also had a string of supporters who rallied behind her: It almost feels like a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation because she was scrutinized for her physical build the majority of her career, because she was "bigger" than other women in the sport. Now that she's smaller, she's still being criticized. And while Serena has yet to address the negativity, I feel it's important to shine a light on these discussions that happen around women's bodies in hopes of changing the way we approach them. Now, I know people like to use the excuse that celebrities "signed up" to be judged, but there has to be a line. They are still human at the end of the day. They don't deserve hate or to live up to the ideas of them that you've created in your mind.

Sophie Turner Slams Critics Who Claim She ‘Forgot' Her Two Kids With Ex Joe Jonas
For some reason, society always seems to forget that moms are people too. It's why we have phrases like 'working mom' and not 'working dad,' as if 'mom' is the most important title and everything else is just a sidenote in a woman's life. God forbid a mother has some carefree time without her kids every once in a while! Recently, Sophie Turner called out the haters who accused her of forgetting her two kids, who she shares with ex-husband Joe Jonas — and we love her for it! The Game of Thrones alum recently shared snaps of herself having fun with friends at an Oasis concert. She was dancing and singing, smiling with friends, and kissing a picture of one of the band members in the post on Instagram. 'Bucket hats & beers…. That'll do me,' she captioned the post on Instagram. More from SheKnows Ivanka Trump Reveals Son Joseph's Adrenaline-Pumping New Hobby in Summertime Snaps It's just some fun photos of a mom having a great time and a fun night out, but some people had a problem with it. 'lmfao i think she has forgotten that she has two kids,' one person commented on her post, prompting a response from Turner. 'ah I'm so sorry sometimes I forget some people can't think for themselves,' Turner replied. 'So…. Get this….There's this crazy thing called shared custody. Maybe, just maybe, they were with their dad that day.' (PEOPLE has a screenshot of the interaction HERE.) Period! A woman shouldn't have to defend herself for enjoying a night out, but we love the sassy way Turner handled this situation. Even if her kids were with a sitter instead of their dad, it would still be fine. Whether you are a celebrity or not, all moms deserve time with their friends. In the comments, more people defended Turner. 'Having kids and still being me – that's the dream. 🔥👏' one person wrote. Seriously, there's no law saying you have to give up everything you care about once you have a child. Not to mention, no one would say the same to a dad! Someone else shared, 'Me and my husband went to the concert and left our 8 year old with his God parents for the night…. we loved the concert…. he loved spending time with them… Parents are allowed lives…. go get yours.' Turner and the Jonas Brothers singer share daughters Delphine, 2, and Willa, 4. The duo were married in 2019 and split in Aug. 2023. Despite their initial dramatic breakup, with Turner suing Jonas for allegedly keeping their daughters in America unlawfully, the exes have finalized their divorce and seem to be in a better co-parenting place now. In July, an insider told PEOPLE that Turner and Jonas 'have gotten into a co-parenting rhythm that really works and they've figured out how to communicate.' 'There's a mutual respect now, and the girls are their priority. Joe and Sophie have hit a surprisingly peaceful groove,' the source continued, 'and they've maintained an amicable relationship from two continents, which isn't easy, but they've managed to pull it off.' In May, Jonas opened up about co-parenting in an interview with motivational speaker Jay Shetty in a TikTok video. 'I have a beautiful coparenting relationship that I'm really grateful for,' he said, per Daily Mail. 'Having an incredible mom, Sophie, for those girls is like a dream come true.' 'As young girls, looking up to great women is what I want for them,' he continued. 'I think what values I want for them are to be open-minded and have a big heart, be able to walk into any room and feel confidence and know that they can do literally anything they want.' Chappell Roan's hit song 'The Subway' has sparked a tourism boom in Saskatchewan
A Canadian province is experiencing a tourism boost after being named in Chappell Roan's new single. Searches for Saskatchewan, a prairie province, were up after it was featured in "The Subway." The Tourism Saskatchewan CEO said recognition from the famous pop star was "like a gift from heaven." A frequently overlooked Canadian province is seeing a surge in tourism interest thanks to America's favorite Midwest Princess. Chappell Roan, the pop star known for her drag queen-inspired aesthetic, referenced Saskatchewan — known for its sunsets and wheat production — in her latest hit single, "The Subway." On the track, she vows to move to the prairie province in central Canada if she can't get over her heartbreak in New York City. After Roan released the song and the subsequent music video on July 31, not only did Saskatchewan see its first spike in the US Google Trends in two years, but the province's tourism board has since seen around 50,000 interactions with its social media accounts and webpage. "We don't normally get this kind of publicity from an artist that's at the peak of their popularity," Jonathan Potts, CEO of Tourism Saskatchewan, told Business Insider. "This is like a gift from heaven." Potts said that in any given year, about 10% of the province's visitors come from the US, mostly for opportunities to fish, hunt, and stargaze, thanks to the rising demand in astrotourism. "I can see why we could be a cure for heartbreak," Potts added. "We only have a population of around 1.2 million people, we have sunshine and plenty of wide open space, and we have the darkest sky preserve just across the Montana border, free from any sound and light pollution." It's certainly not the first time a pop culture reference has put a tourism destination on the map. Montana and Wyoming experienced a surge in tourism thanks to the popularity of the TV show "Yellowstone," while HBO's "Game of Thrones" caused a tourism boost in Northern Ireland and Croatia, with fans visiting filming locations. Amir Eylon, president and CEO of Longwoods International, a market research consultancy specializing in the travel tourism industry, said music references can have the same effect. "Travel is an emotional thing," Eylon said, adding that if fans "feel a connection to that song or that piece of art, they're going to want to explore that place and see if they can feel that same connection within the destination." Saskatchewan embraces itself as a cure for heartbreak The sudden interest in Saskatchewan comes at a time when the relationship between the US and Canada is strained by the Trump administration's tariffs and the president's repeated comments about making the US's northern neighbor the 51st state of the US. Since March, Canadians have boycotted US-made products and canceled trips to the States in favor of Central American and European destinations. According to Statistics Canada, return flights of Canadian residents from the US saw a 22% decline year-over-year in June, while resident return trips by automobile from the US also fell by 33% in the same month. The decline doesn't seem to be caused by a lack of interest in traveling. In June, Statistics Canada, the national statistical office of Canada, reported a 7% increase in international travel compared to the same month in 2024. If you are an American in need of a cure for heartbreak, or just someone living in Montana and North Dakota seeking a quick escape, Saskatchewan welcomes everyone with open arms, Potts said. Tourism Saskatchewan's page now has a list of travel recommendations based on Chappell Roan songs, ranging from the cheerleader-vibe "HOT TO GO!" for the Mosaic Stadium, to "Red Wine Supernova" for Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, where you are guaranteed a sky full of stars. Eylon said Saskatchewan was smart to capitalize on the moment, calling it a "fun, unique opportunity" to introduce the destination to Americans who may not be familiar with the province. "Travel is transformational," he said. "Showing that Saskatchewan can be a transformational destination for those who are seeking change could be a great vein to tap into with their marketing." If you are visiting Saskatchewan, whether you are a fan of Roan or not, Potts offers the biggest travel tip: dress appropriately for the season. "We're warm, welcoming people, and we are a very diverse place, with very clear seasons," said Potts. "From the biggest skies to the largest collection of Picasso linocuts, we will help you find something fantastic to do." Fans online also drew a connection between Roan's breakout 2023 album, "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess," to Saskatchewan's similarities with the American Midwest. Apparently, "Midwest Princesses know no borders," as one comment on a Tourism Saskatchewan post read. Read the original article on Business Insider
