Zinedine Zidane 'Can't Wait' To Take 'Dream' France Job
Zinedine Zidane, widely tipped in France to take over as national coach after the 2026 World Cup, said the job would be "a dream" and that he was "looking forward" to taking it. Zidane, who is 52, was speaking at an event on Monday organised by his long-time sponsors Adidas, French media reported. "I feel qualified for the French team, where I played and spent practically 12, 13, 14 years as a player. Of course it's a dream. I can't wait," said Zidane, a former captain of Les Bleus and the scorer of two goals as they won the 1998 World Cup final.
His midfield partner in that match and in France's Euro 200 triumph, was Didier Deschamps who has been in charge of the French side since 2012.
Deschamps led Les Bleus to the World Cup in 2018 but has announced that he will end his reign after the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
As a coach Zidane took Real to three Champions League triumphs and two Liga titles but has not taken a coaching job since ending his second spell at Real in 2021.

She backed up that stunning victory by overcoming the young Russian teenager in a tense two-hour battle under the roof of Court scripted history by becoming the first wildcard in the Open Era to reach the French Open women's singles semi-finals. Her incredible run now guarantees her a rise to at least world No. 61 in the rankings. She also becomes the first Frenchwoman to reach the Roland Garros semi-finals since Marion Bartoli in 2011. French Open Day 11 Live UpdatesBefore Roland Garros, Boisson had never faced an opponent ranked inside the top 50, with her highest-ranked adversary being world No. 60 Moyuka Uchijima earlier this year. The 22-year-old earned her spot in the main draw through a wildcard, having missed last year's debut due to a torn ACL. I was just trying to fight for every point."Gauff also became the youngest woman since Martina Hingis (1995-2000) to achieve 25 main-draw wins at Roland Garros, underlining her rapid rise at the Grand Slam.

New penalty rule in football after UCL controversy: What you need to know
A recent clarification to the rules of football concerning penalty kicks has been issued following a controversial incident involving Julián Álvarez in a Champions League knockout match earlier this year. The change will officially take effect in UEFA competitions starting Wednesday, as Germany faces Portugal in the UEFA Nations League semi-final in Munich. The update, announced by UEFA and based on guidelines from the International Football Association Board (IFAB), addresses an unusual situation during a penalty shootout when Álvarez, playing for Atlético Madrid, slipped and unintentionally struck the ball twice. In the Champions League round of 16 against Real Madrid, Álvarez's initial kick deflected off his standing foot and looped into the net past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. While the goal was initially celebrated, a VAR review disallowed it, citing a double touch, a decision that proved crucial in Atlético's eventual elimination. What does the new penalty kick rule say? In a statement, IFAB noted that such occurrences are rare but not directly addressed in the existing laws. 'This part of Law 14 is primarily intended for situations where the penalty taker deliberately touches the ball a second time before it has touched another player,' the board explained. Under the new interpretation, if a player scores a penalty after an accidental second touch, like slipping and unintentionally contacting the ball twice, the penalty must now be retaken, rather than ruled as a miss. However, if the double-touched penalty does not result in a goal, the outcome remains unchanged: during a shootout, it will be marked as missed; during regular play, a free kick will be awarded to the opposing team. This updated rule will also apply at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which begins on June 14 in the United States, featuring 32 teams, including Atlético Madrid. IFAB, made up of FIFA and the four British football associations, governs global football laws and requires six out of eight votes to enact rule changes.

"What Happened Is Beyond Tragic": Sachin Tendulkar Reacts As 11 Die At RCB's IPL Celebration Due To Stampede
What started as a celebration, turned fatal on Wednesday as 11 people died in Bengaluru due to stampede at Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 victory celebration. Much like Tuesday night when the team's win in Ahmedabad triggered a street party in the Garden City, Wednesday too had thousands, which eventually became lakhs, converging at the Chinnaswamy stadium, leaving the police outnumbered and struggling to take control of the situation. The men in uniform tried to use mild force to disperse the crowd or to at least bring some order but that did little to discourage people, many of whom could be seen pressed against the stadium's entrance gate, desperate to get in. The scenes leading up to the tragedy reminded one of the historic welcome given to the T20 World Cup-winning Indian squad by Mumbai in July last year. However, while the sea of humanity had a gala time in Mumbai, things went haywire in the Garden City. Sachin Tendulkar has reacted on the incident. "What happened at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, is beyond tragic. My heart goes out to every affected family. Wishing peace and strength to all," Sachin posted on X. What happened at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, is beyond tragic. My heart goes out to every affected family. Wishing peace and strength to all. 🙏 — Sachin Tendulkar (@sachin_rt) June 4, 2025 Here's what Royal Challengers Bengaluru had to say in its official statement regarding the incident. "We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team's arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us," the statement read. "RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families. "Immediately upon being made aware of the situation, we promptly amended our program, and followed, the guidance and advice of the local administration. We urge all our supporters to please stay safe." The BCCI said the turn of events was shocking and the organisers should have been better-prepared. "It's most unfortunate, organisers should have planned RCB's IPL-winning celebrations better," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI. "When one organises a victory celebration of this magnitude, proper precautions and security measures need to be taken," he added.
