
Louis Vuitton plans opulent, Frank Gehry-designed Rodeo Drive flagship in Beverly Hills
Louis Vuitton is gearing up to go over the top again in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.
With plans for an ultra-opulent hotel on Rodeo Drive stymied by voters two years ago, the Paris fashion house's owners are back with a proposal for a theatrical flagship store designed by Frank Gehry that would anchor the north end of the famous retail corridor.
Luxury goods stores on Rodeo Drive are growing larger as top-shelf retailers increasingly up the ante to dazzle shoppers, and the vision from Louis Vuitton owner LVMH is one of the biggest yet, with restaurants, rooftop gardens and exhibition space.
Set to open in 2029 pending city approval, the store will be one continuous structure connected across an alley by two pedestrian bridges and a tunnel.

Louis Vuitton's new store will be 45,000 sq ft (4,180 square metres) on the retail side fronting on Rodeo Drive and an additional 55,000 square feet on the hospitality-focused side of the building.
'The new location will take visitors into a full Louis Vuitton lifestyle experience showcasing its diverse universes of products and one-of-a-kind client experiences,' the company said.

Nearly five years after Arizona State swimmer Grant House sued the NCAA and its five biggest conferences to lift restrictions on revenue sharing, US Judge Claudia Wilken approved the final proposal, which had been hung up on roster limits, just one of many changes ahead amid concerns that thousands of walk-on athletes would lose their chance to play college sports. The sweeping terms of the so-called House settlement include approval for each school to share up to US$20.5 million with athletes over the next year and US$2.7 billion that will be paid over the next decade to thousands of former players who were barred from that revenue for years. The agreement brings a seismic shift to hundreds of schools that were forced to reckon with the reality that their players are the ones producing the billions in TV and other revenue, mostly through football and basketball, that keep this machine humming. The scope of the changes – some have already begun – is difficult to overstate. The professionalisation of college athletics will be seen in the high-stakes and expensive recruitment of stars on their way to the NFL and NBA, and they will be felt by athletes whose schools have decided to pare their programmes. US retailers demand Chinese firms pay shipping costs as trade pressure grows
US retail giants are demanding that their Chinese suppliers split or even bear the full cost of shipping goods across the Pacific, as freight rates skyrocket amid the disruption caused by the trade war, sources at Chinese export firms told the Post. Advertisement The move is the latest sign of the intense pressure America's biggest retailers are putting on Chinese factories to absorb more of the additional costs created by the trade war, with the companies facing calls at home to 'eat the tariffs'. Until recently, it was standard practice for major American retailers to pay the full cost of shipping goods from China to the United States, with the companies able to leverage long-standing relationships with global shipping firms to keep costs low, sources from exporters in eastern China's Zhejiang province said. But that is now changing. Factories in Zhejiang supplying the US' 'dominant' hypermarket chains are now having to foot part – or, in some cases, all – of the cost of transporting goods to America, according to the sources. Stage Group, a leading garment maker from Zhejiang, has been paying the logistics costs on 60 per cent of its US-bound shipments since the end of May, a sales representative from the company said.
