Emirates expands Premium Economy to Male, Colombo

Emirates has deployed its retrofitted Boeing 777 on flights EK656/657 and EK660/661 between Dubai and Malé, offering an elevated travel experience.
The aircraft also features the highly-acclaimed Premium Economy offering, providing passengers with an elevated experience.
From 18 July, Emirates will deploy its retrofitted four-class Boeing 777 on flights EK650/651 between Dubai and Colombo, becoming the airline's second daily flight in Sri Lanka to feature Premium Economy seats.
Emirates operates four daily flights to Malé, three of which are served with the retrofitted Boeing 777 aircraft.
The airline will now serve customers traveling to Sri Lanka with its award-winning Premium Economy cabins on two aircraft types: the retrofitted Boeing 777 featuring refreshed interiors and enhanced cabins, and the latest aircraft to join its fleet, the Emirates A350, which operates as EK654/655.
The four-class Boeing 777 features 8 First Class suites, 40 Business Class seats in 1-2-1 configuration, 24 spacious Premium Economy seats, and 256 ergonomically designed Economy seats.
The new Emirates Boeing 777 Business Class is inspired by the fresh, open, and contemporary design elements of Emirates' iconic A380 experience, featuring soft leather cream seats accented with champagne trim, lighter wood panelling, a mini-bar, and other thoughtful touches.
Premium Economy passengers also enjoy a generous checked-in baggage allowance of 35kg and a further 10kg of carry-on baggage.
The deployment of the Emirates B777 on the Dubai-Malé and Dubai-Colombo routes reflects the airline's commitment to delivering premium travel experiences to its customers across its network. -TradeArabia News Service

Fantastic Flying Club: Virgin Atlantic continues to reward loyalty, now introducing recognition for guests with multi-year loyalty who may not travel enough for tier status progression. Entertainment Free, streaming-quality Wi-Fi: Virgin Atlantic was the first airline to introduce fleet-wide Wi-Fi across the Atlantic in 2017 and now it will become the first UK airline to announce a partnership with Starlink, the world's fastest and most reliable connectivity, transforming how guests connect, engage and entertain at 38,000ft. Free, streaming-quality Wi-Fi will be available across its fleet, with unlimited usage for every guest that signs up to Flying Club. Image: GHA Global Hotel Alliance (GHA), the Dubai-based collective of independent hotel brands, reported solid growth in H1 2025, fuelled by a surge in international travel and a strong Q2 performance. Revenues for the group's member hotels reached $1.5bn for the six months ending June 30, up 17 per cent year-on-year from $1.3bn in H1 2024. International stays, which continue to form the backbone of GHA's business, accounted for 70 per cent of room revenues, climbing 21 per cent year-on-year to $810m. The group noted that the United States remained the top source market for international bookings, contributing 15 per cent of all room revenues. The UK, Germany, China and Australia followed as key feeder markets. The most popular destinations for GHA DISCOVERY loyalty members in H1 were led by the UAE, followed by Thailand, Spain, Singapore and Italy. GHA's 850-plus properties also saw strong Q2 performance, which supported the positive H1 results. Hotel revenues rose 18 per cent year-on-year in Q2, while room nights increased by 19 per cent. Countries with the highest average daily rates during the quarter included the Maldives, the UK, Japan and Fiji. Cross-brand revenues – generated when members stay at hotels outside their primary brand – rose 18 per cent in Q2 to $94.7m, contributing to a total of $188.8m for the first half of the year, up 15 per cent from H1 2024. Direct bookings through GHA's digital platforms increased by 19 per cent in H1, a gain that helps member hotels reduce reliance on third-party platforms with higher commission costs. Global Hotel Alliance's loyalty programme sees 16 per cent YoY rise The group's loyalty programme, Use of the programme's rewards currency, DISCOVERY Dollars (D$), also surged, with redemptions jumping 61 per cent in Q2 compared to the same period last year. GHA added 48 new properties to its portfolio in the first six months of 2025, including hotels from newly joined brands such as Cheval Collection and Cinnamon Hotels. The expansion reinforces GHA's presence across Asia, the UK and the Middle East. 'With demand for international travel continuing to rise, our hotel brands are reaping the benefit of belonging to a truly global alliance. GHA DISCOVERY members are travelling further, staying longer, and booking directly, driving hotel profitability across our portfolio,' said Chris Hartley, CEO of Global Hotel Alliance. 'These results reflect the trust members place in GHA DISCOVERY and the strength of collaboration across our expanding network of brands and hotels. Even amid ongoing market uncertainty, the momentum we've built – supported by new brands and hotels joining the alliance – positions us well for a strong and resilient second half of the year,' he added. The UAE on Wednesday launched its 2027-2029 budget cycle, focusing on sustainability, artificial intelligence and efficiency. 'The budget cycle will play a key role in the development of the UAE's public financial system and is part of our government approach driven by proactivity, flexibility and policy integration,' Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, said on social media platform X. The latest budget cycle will focus on vital sectors that directly affect people's lives, including education, health care and social welfare, while empowering federal entities to deliver services to support the objectives of the government's UAE Centennial 2071 plan, he added. The total value of the federal budget over four consecutive cycles is Dh900 billion ($245 billion), the post said. The value of federal government assets by the end of 2024 reached Dh464.4 billion. In October last year, the UAE Cabinet approved the general budget of the Emirates for the fiscal year 2025, describing it as the largest in the country's history, with spending estimated at Dh71.5 billion. The Union General Budget Plan for next year also projects revenue at Dh71.5 billion. In October 2023, the UAE Cabinet approved a federal budget of Dh192 billion for 2024 to 2026.
