New Ariel Atom 4RR is a 525bhp face-melting track car
Like the regular Atom 4, it's powered by the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine from the Honda Civic Type R. But for the 4RR, Ariel has added revised internals and new components, as well as upgrading the oil and fuel systems, allowing the motor to spit out 525bhp and 550Nm of torque.
That's more than four times as much power as the original Ariel Atom produced from its Rover K-Series engine, and even the Ariel Atom V8 – which used a bespoke 3.0-litre V8 – had 'just' 475bhp on tap. In fact, the Atom 4RR has more power than the latest BMW M3, all of which is sent to the rear wheels – as has always been the way with the Atom – while the car will still weigh less than 700kg. Ariel hasn't announced any exact weight or performance figures for the Atom 4RR just yet, however considering the 400bhp Atom 4R tipped the scales 665kg and could do 0-62mph in 2.7 seconds, we think the new model might pull off the sprint in 2.5 seconds or less.
Similarly, we're assuming Ariel has made other changes for the Atom 4RR beyond just bolting in the more powerful engine, because the car is claimed to 'enable the most serious track drivers to explore the limits of the lightweight Atom, while utilising the full extent of their driving skills'.
More technical details will be released later in the year, as will the price tag. But we know that only 25 examples of the Ariel Atom 4RR will be produced, and all will be made to order.

Wonky yellow lines painted on the roads of a coastal village have seen an attempt to improve parking problems take a strange narrow lanes of Old Hunstanton often get clogged by parked vehicles as people head to the north-west Norfolk coast during the warmer meant new regulations were brought in on 11 July, restricting parking on several roads between 08:00 and 18:00 over a five-month Norfolk County Council said the new lines were below standard, and ordered remedial work as a "matter of urgency". The meandering yellow lines, including on Sea Lane and Waterworks Road, are a mixture of double and single of them continue across the end of driveways and incorrectly merge into one were painted on roads following a traffic regulation order (TRO) that was approved by the county council and came into effect on 11 July. Tom de Winton is the Conservative West Norfolk borough councillor for Old Hunstanton and has been working alongside the village's parish council on the traffic issues in recent years."We can all have a bit of a laugh about some wobbly yellow lines but the important thing is that our coastal villages do have a lot of traffic, particularly in the summer," he said."Councillors in Old Hunstanton have tried very hard to get the TRO and have been under quite a lot of pressure."But also managing to get a TRO takes a hell of a lot of time to get done, so when a silly clot does a bad job then they need to be made to go and do it again." A Norfolk County Council spokesperson said: "Unfortunately the double yellow lines at Old Hunstanton have not been installed to Norfolk County Council's specification or standards."Accordingly, we have requested the contractor to undertake remedial works as a matter of urgency."Some of these works have already taken place but others will be carried out over the coming weeks once the surface has been prepared."All remedial works will be completed at no cost to Norfolk County Council." Driver who claimed his electric Jaguar I-Pace accelerated 'on its own' on the motorway appears in court accused of fraud
A motorist who claimed his luxury electric car accelerated 'on its own' on the motorway has made his first appearance in court charged with fraud. Nathan Owen, 32, from Prestatyn, North Wales, called police for assistance on March 6 last year to report his Jaguar I-Pace vehicle was speeding out of control and the brakes were not working. Officers scrambled to intercept the vehicle, which had travelled along the eastbound carriageways of the M57, M62 and M58 motorways. Patrols from Merseyside Police 's Matrix unit were called out in order to safely stop the vehicle on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway, ultimately bringing it to a halt between junction 11 for Birchwood, Warrington, and junction 12 at Eccles, The Liverpool Echo reported. On Wednesday, Owen attended Liverpool Magistrates' Court where he indicated not guilty pleas to dangerous driving, intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance and two counts of fraud. One charge of fraud meanwhile accuses Owen of falsely informing a car finance company, CA Auto Finance, that his Jaguar I-PACE was 'accelerating on its own', with its brakes also being 'unresponsive', in order to make a gain of more than £4,000. It is also said that he made the same claims to several national newspapers, with the intention of causing loss to the Jaguar company or exposing it to risk of loss. Prosecutor Renee Southern told the court that it was the Crown's case that the defendant had 'persistently and dishonestly' claimed the vehicle was defective. She said Owen wanted to 'get rid' of the vehicle and thus avoid further payments totalling £4,426 to the finance company. Police made manoeuvres to box the Jaguar in, which led to motorway closures and substantial delays, the court heard. Appearing in the dock wearing a black zip-up top and glasses and sporting short dark hair and a beard, he spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth before pleading not guilty to all four counts. Owen, of The Grove, was released on unconditional bail to attend a further hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on September 10, when he is expected to enter formal pleas.

New Vauxhall GSE sports car incoming – and it's electric
British brand Vauxhall has already got its new all-electric sports car sub-brand up and running with the announcement of the new Vauxhall Mokka GSE, but things are about to get even hotter with a show car set to debut at next month's Munich Motor Show. These sketchy first images preview the new GSE concept that has been inspired by motorsport models of the past, such as the Opel Manta 400 rally car. We can see a slim steering wheel with the new GSE badge on it, a red illuminated Vauxhall badge sitting at the back of the car between slim vertical and horizontal LED lights that are referred to as the 'Vauxhall Compass', a racing driver's seat sitting within a roll cage and lightweight, sporty wheels. Vauxhall has hinted that the concept has an eye on racing saying, 'the concept will be very much at home on the racing track and offer a thrilling yet comfortable and safe driving experience'. The concept was created by Vauxhall's design team at the Opel headquarters in Germany, led by Brit Mark Adams, Vauxhall and Opel's Vice-President of Design. Adams has been heading up Vauxhall design for over two decades, and his team was also responsible for Vauxhall/Opel's last show car, the Vauxhall Experimental, which appeared at the Munich Motor Show in 2023. While that car was purely a concept previewing the latest design themes across Vauxhall's model range, this latest concept is taking that on further and could preview a production GSE model that we see sometime in 2026.
