Liberty center Jonquel Jones didn't sugarcoat her disappointment when it came to the fact a sprained ankle derailed her All-Star-worthy start.
'I'm pissed,' she said after practice Wednesday. 'I'm not even gonna lie about it, I'm really upset about it.'

Jones has been named an All-Star in five of the past seven seasons, including 2024.
Earning a sixth All-Star nod was the 'one personal goal' Jones had for herself this season.
The 2024 WNBA Finals MVP was on track to make her All-Star aspirations a reality.

In her first nine games, Jones averaged 15.3 points and 11.3 rebounds while shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from deep.
Jones initially sprained her right ankle June 5 in Washington. In her second game back, she aggravated the ankle injury when she landed on another player's foot after going up for a shot.
Earlier this week, Jones learned she wasn't named a starter for the 2025 WNBA All-Star game.
She's keeping her fingers crossed that she may be named one of the 12 reserves, which are determined by the league's head coaches.

Though there's no minimum games played requirement to be named an All-Star, Jones knows her being sidelined may impact her chances.
'We'll see when it comes [out] but I'm definitely upset about it,' Jones said. 'Obviously I was playing well enough to be an All-Star again and it's something that I expect of myself every year as well. So we'll see. But if it happens that I'm not, then I'm definitely going to be very upset.'
Being left out of the main event of All-Star weekend — scheduled for July 18-19 in Indianapolis — is just one of the challenges Jones has had to come to grips with since reinjuring her ankle in the Liberty's June 19 loss against the Mercury.

'It's been hard to see it,' Jones said. 'It's been difficult. … But I think there are some things that we can control as a team to help us just look better out there and kind of help us be closer to winning.'
The Liberty play their next eight games in Brooklyn and aren't scheduled to hit the road again until their July 28 game in Dallas.
Jones said the lengthy home stand should be good for her recovery considering swelling has been one of her biggest issues with the sprain. She also welcomed the chance for some normalcy, despite the setback.
'I can see my dogs every day and they make me happy,' Jones said. 'I can do my regular walks and stuff like that and just kind of get into that routine of just when I'm showing up to the gym, when I'm doing rehab, when I'm doing conditioning and all that stuff.'
Jones can also host 'Love Island' watch parties with her teammates in her Brooklyn apartment.

The Liberty announced June 21 that Jones would miss four to six weeks. About two weeks into her rehab process, Jones said she doesn't have a target date to return to play. But she did say she's feeling better.
'I'm in a good spot,' she said. 'Just making sure that I'm as close to 100 percent as possible before I get back on the court and yeah, just take it from there.'

Lexie Hull Takes Notice of Key Addition Amid Fever Winning Streak

Lexie Hull Takes Notice of Key Addition Amid Fever Winning Streak originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After a shaky start to 2025 that saw the team drop to 2-4 by the end of May, the Indiana Fever have burst into form recently by capturing the WNBA Commissioner's Cup, followed up by a dominant 81-54 victory over the Las Vegas Aces just two days later. Advertisement A major contributor during this time has been guard Lexie Hull. In fact, Hull has quietly emerged as one of Indiana's most reliable two‑way players this season, averaging a career-high 8.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game, shooting 46.2% from the floor and 48.9% from deep. Yet, Aari McDonald's arrival in Indianapolis has been equally impactful. In six games with Indiana (two starts), McDonald is averaging 11.3 points, 3.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 26.8 minutes per contest. When asked on Friday about McDonald's fit in the rotation, Hull offered high praise. Advertisement 'She's been a steal for us. She's bringing everything that we needed," Hull said. "Energy offensively, energy defensively. She's fit into this system seamlessly. We couldn't ask for more from her." A former third overall pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream, McDonald played her college ball at Washington and then Arizona, earning Pac‑12 Player of the Year and first team WBCA All-American as a senior. After spending the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Sparks, she signed an emergency hardship contract with the Fever on June 2 following injuries to Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham. Sophie Cunningham had Perfect Reaction to Caitlin Clark's Three-Word Message

Sophie Cunningham had Perfect Reaction to Caitlin Clark's Three-Word Message originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The old saying "winning cures all ills" couldn't be more fitting for the Indiana Fever right now. While Caitlin Clark has been sidelined since June 24 with a groin injury, the team has found its rhythm without her. Advertisement Clark will miss Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Sparks, marking her fifth straight absence. Despite that, Indiana is rolling into the weekend aiming for a fourth straight win after Thursday's blowout over the Las Vegas Aces. The Fever are not just clicking on the court. Off the court, the chemistry is just as strong, and it was on full display in a playful Instagram exchange between Clark and guard Sophie Cunningham. Clark posted a photo of Cunningham jogging during warm-ups, her hair in disarray, with the caption: 'love this hairstyle' while tagging her teammate. Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark poke fun at each other on Cunningham, Instagram Cunningham was quick to respond, resharing the photo with her own message: Advertisement 'this is you on a good day so RELAX princess.' It's the kind of lighthearted banter that shows how connected this group has become under head coach Stephanie White. Cunningham, who has played 12 games with the Fever, hasn't put up big numbers but has brought a spark to the rotation. Over the last two games, Indiana has outscored opponents by an average of 21 points with her on the court. Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham (8)© Jerome Miron-Imagn Images Clark, in her second WNBA season, has appeared in nine games so far in 2025, averaging 18.2 points and 8.9 assists. Her last appearance came in a tough outing against Seattle, where she scored just six points. Her next chance to return is Wednesday when the Fever stay at Gainbridge Fieldhouse to take on the Golden State Valkyries. Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Celebrated For 'Incredible' Gesture

Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Celebrated For 'Incredible' Gesture originally appeared on The Spun. Sophie Cunningham has dealt with some criticism during her first season with the Indiana Fever. On Friday, however, all she received was praise. Advertisement Earlier this week, Cunningham made headlines when she was asked about the WNBA's expansion plans. She questioned if people would be excited to play for Cleveland or Detroit. Obviously, that remark didn't sit well with people from those two cities. After a day of nonstop criticism, she retracted her initial comments. "Yeah, OK. First of all, I know the history behind the WNBA. I know that both of those cities have had teams before, and they got us where we're at. So I'm thankful for that," Cunningham said. "All I was really getting at is like — Broadway, the off-court lifestyle, and so I think that is really intriguing. I think Miami is intriguing. That's all I was getting at." Luckily for Cunningham, she won't have to apologize for her latest act. After warming up for roughly 30 minutes, she fulfilled that promise. Advertisement "I've had the pleasure of meeting many celebrities , athletes etc. but nothing tops this brief moment with my daughter and @sophie_cham," Howze wrote on Instagram. "Sophie promised my daughter that she would sign her jersey. After warming up for 30-40 min and being pulled into so many directions, she remembered that she gave her word to this little girl, kept her promise and made a B line straight for her. Thank you for this moment Sophie." Howze shared a video of this heartwarming interaction for everyone to see. Countless fans praised Cunningham for this classy gesture. "This is amazing I love it," one person commented. Advertisement "Yet another amazing reason to love Sophie Cunningham," a second person wrote. "That's how you build a league," a third person said. For the most part, Cunningham has enjoyed a really good week - on and off the court. During the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final, she scored 13 points in a 74-59 victory over the Minnesota Lynx. Cunningham will return to the hardwood on Saturday night when the Indiana Fever take on the Los Angeles Sparks.
