Abreu added an RBI double in the second inning, when Boston scored three times to take a 6-0 lead. The Red Sox also received a two-run single from Trevor Story in the inning.
Toronto scored in the third, when Addison Barger's single drove in Myles Straw and cut Boston's lead to 6-1.
The Red Sox tacked on three runs in their half of the third to increase their advantage to 9-1. The inning featured a bases-loaded walk to Abraham Toro, a sacrifice fly from Carlos Narvaez and a throwing error on catcher Alejandro Kirk that allowed Anthony to score.
Bassitt (7-4) allowed nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits in two innings.
After Nick Sogard's RBI single drove in Story in the sixth, Rafaela's ninth home run increased Boston's lead to 12-1. Gonzalez produced his third homer of the season in the seventh, when Boston stretched its lead to 14-1.
The Red Sox wrapped up the scoring in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Toro that drove in Jarren Duran.

Kevin Newman's 3-run HR helps Angels top Nationals

June 29 - Kevin Newman belted a three-run homer and Mike Trout hit a solo shot during a six-run seventh inning to help the Los Angeles Angels post an 8-2 victory over the Washington Nationals on Saturday night at Anaheim, Calif. Christian Moore hit a go-ahead single during the decisive frame as the Angels won for the eighth time in the past 12 games. Gustavo Campero homered while Newman and Jo Adell had two hits apiece for Los Angeles. CJ Abrams homered and Riley Adams had an RBI single for the Nationals, who lost for the 16th time in the past 20 games. Adams, Nathaniel Lowe and James Wood each had two hits for Washington. Trout got the 12-batter, seventh-inning uprising started by slamming the second pitch of the inning from Zach Brzykcy (0-1) over the wall in left to tie it at 2. Taylor Ward then doubled and Adell singled, ending Brzykcy's outing after three batters. Eduardo Salazar struck out Logan O'Hoppe and induced pinch-hitter Zach Neto to pop up. But Moore followed with a single through the left side to score Ward and give the Angels a 3-2 lead. Newman followed with a three-run blast over the short wall in left to give Los Angeles a four-run advantage. Luis Rengifo then doubled and Nolan Schanuel walked to end Salazar's outing. Ryan Loutos then walked Trout and Ward to force in Rengifo and make it 7-2. Adell bounced out to end the inning. Abrams came up with two out in the fifth and hit a solo homer to left center off Kyle Hendricks to tie the score at 1. In the top of the seventh, Washington's Daylen Lile walked with one out off Ryan Zeferjahn (5-1) and stole second. Two pitches later, Adams ripped an RBI single to center to give the Nationals a 2-1 lead. Washington's Michael Soroka allowed one run and two hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked one. Hendricks gave up one run and five hits over five innings for the Angels. He struck out five and walked none. Los Angeles plated a run in the second as Ward walked and Adell singled off Soroka to put runners at the corners. O'Hoppe then grounded into a double play to score Ward. --Field Level Media

Kyle Tucker slugs Cubs over Astros

June 29 - Kyle Tucker drilled a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning, the third homer slugged by the Chicago Cubs in that frame en route to a 12-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday in the middle game of a three-game interleague series. Tucker finished 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs in his second game against his former club. He spent seven seasons with the Astros before his offseason trade to the Cubs, and he made his presence felt as Chicago set up a series rubber match with a dominant performance. A half-inning after Astros rookie Cam Smith, acquired as part of the package that landed Tucker in Chicago, smacked his second home run of the series, the Cubs responded resoundingly to the 2-1 deficit Smith created with his two-run shot off Cubs right-hander Colin Rea (5-3). Astros right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. (1-3) appeared to have steadied the ship following a rocky top of the first when he walked in a run and threw 27 pitches, including 18 for balls. McCullers threw 12 consecutive balls during one stretch in the first inning but retired the Cubs in order in the second and third, and returned for the fourth with a one-run lead in his possession. That lead was short-lived. Michael Busch and Nico Hoerner clubbed back-to-back homers off McCullers to push the Cubs to a 3-2 lead. McCullers, who retired eight consecutive batters after his bases-loaded walk to Busch resulted in a 1-0 deficit, did not escape the fourth. Ian Happ produced an RBI single that extended the lead to 4-2 and set the table for Tucker, who roped a first-pitch slider to right field. His 17th home run plated Reese McGuire and Happ and lifted the Cubs to a 7-2 lead. McCullers departed after Seiya Suzuki tripled to left-center, and allowed eight runs on seven hits and four walks with one strikeout over 3 1/3 innings. Suzuki (2-for-5) added his 22nd home run in the top of the eighth. Dansby Swanson went 3-for-4 with a walk. Busch finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Rea allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts over five innings. --Field Level Media

Spencer Schwellenbach, Braves too strong for Phillies

June 29 - Spencer Schwellenbach set a career high with 12 strikeouts and Sean Murphy hit a grand slam to lead the host Atlanta Braves to a 6-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday to end their three-game losing streak. The win squared the three-game series and evened the season series between the teams at 4-4. Schwellenbach (7-4) pitched seven innings and allowed one run on three hits and one walk. In five career starts against Phillies, Schwellenbach is 3-0 with a 2.01 ERA. The Atlanta bullpen completed the game. Raisel Iglesias struck out two while working a scoreless eighth and Rafael Montero pitched a perfect ninth inning. Murphy's slam, the second of his career, carried 455 feet to left field against reliever Jordan Romano in the seventh inning. The home run, Murphy's 10th, was his first since May 29, also against Philadelphia, and was Atlanta's first bases-loaded home run of the season. Philadelphia starter Jesus Luzardo (7-4) pitched five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. Atlanta ended an 18-inning scoreless streak by scoring a run in the first inning on Austin Riley's infield single. Atlanta made it 2-0 with a run in the second inning. Nick Allen drove in Eli White with a single, but Stuart Fairchild was easily thrown out at the plate by left fielder Max Kepler to short-circuit the rally. The Phillies got on the board in the sixth when Brandon Marsh singled -- ending a string of 15 consecutive batters retired by Schwellenbach -- stole second base and scored on Alec Bohm's two-out single. Bohm had been 1-for-16 on the road trip and fanned in his first two at-bats. Atlanta's Matt Olson went 2-for-5 with a double on Saturday and extended his league-best and career-high on-base streak to 29 games. The Braves switched their starting lineup and sat down struggling center fielder Michael Harris II, who is in an 0-for-21 slump. --Field Level Media
