Exclusive: Shehzad Khan opens up about strained relationship with father Ajit
Shehzad Khan, son of iconic Bollywood villain Ajit, recently opened up about the difficult and emotionally distant relationship he shared with his father. In a raw and revealing conversation with India Today Digital, Shehzad didn't hold back as he recalled the pressures of growing up in a strict household and the weight of being Ajit's son.
The 'Andaz Apna Apna' actor said, 'Let me tell you, my grandfather was in the Nizam's army, so my father was raised in a very strict, military-style environment, and so was I. Naturally, he was a strict father too. I'm sharing something very close to my heart. The relationship I had with my father was similar to the one Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor had in the film Animal-very strained, very tough. He never praised me. Not once. Instead, he would always point out my flaws. 'Why are you like this? Why are you like that?' I just kept enduring it, telling myself that one day, God would stand by me." One of the harshest moments he recalled, was being told outright by his father that he wouldn't support his dream of being an actor. "He once told me, 'I will never make a film for you, not even a phone call. In fact, if possible, don't even say you're my son. 'Work hard and make your own path.' And I said to myself, 'He's forgotten he's talking to a Pathan - we are also Pathans' children. I'll face everything head-on.'And he meant it. Even when he met filmmaker Nasir Hussain, who was related to Ajit, he didn't use the connection. "I remember meeting Nasir Hussain sahab, who was a relative of my father from Shahjahanpur. Even then, I didn't write on a chit that I was Ajit's son. I sat there with my portfolio for about 45 minutes, waiting for my turn. When I told him I wanted to work with him, he said, 'We've already finalised the hero.' His office was huge, just opposite Mehboob Studio. He pointed and said, 'See that boy - today the whole city knows him as Aamir Khan.' I replied, 'If I can't be the hero, make me the hero's friend or the villain - give me something.' He said, 'Okay, some roles as the hero's friend are coming up, will call you.'"Shehzad further added, "I was told to write my address, so I wrote on a piece of paper, and when Naseer Saab saw he said, 'Looks like Hamid Miya's address!' Then he asked, 'What are you doing there?' I was about to say I was staying as a paying guest, but instead, I told him I was Ajit's son. He was shocked and angry. He said, 'Why didn't you tell me earlier?' I said, 'Even then, you would've given me the role of the hero's friend.'"
On a concluding note, Shehzad mentioned, 'My father was a very good actor and also a very good human being, but he was a very strict father."

Aamir Khan Says Pahalgam Attackers Aren't Muslims: ‘They Fired After Asking Religion'
Last Updated: Aamir Khan has finally responded to criticism over his delayed reaction to the Pahalgam terror attack, saying 'I don't consider those terrorists Muslims.' Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has finally addressed the criticism surrounding the timing of his response to the horrific Pahalgam terror attack that claimed several innocent lives on April 22. The actor's official statement condemning the attack came more than a week after several other members of the film industry had already spoken out. Now, in a candid conversation with India TV, the actor has opened up about why he responded late — and the emotional toll the incident took on him. Calling the attack 'cruel" and 'cowardly," Aamir said, 'The terror attack was cruel. It only demonstrates the terrorists' cowardice that they entered our country and fired bullets on common men. You or I could've also been there. They asked their religion and then fired bullets. What does that mean?" He further clarified that while the public might not have seen an immediate social media post from him, it wasn't because he lacked concern. 'I'm not on social media. People react instantly to these events there," he explained, adding that he had addressed the matter at an event shortly after it occurred. 'That was an attack not only on our nation, but also on our unity. They've already got a befitting response from our country," said Aamir, referring to India's retaliatory strikes under Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror camps in Pakistan. Responding to allegations that his statement was timed with the promotional cycle of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir offered a calm yet firm rebuttal. 'If I speak about our forces delivering a befitting response, then am I doing something wrong? Should I think about the film or about our forces at that time? If I keep quiet just because my film is about to release, I feel that's wrong. So I spoke about it openly." He further explained that the trailer launch of Sitaare Zameen Par, which took place merely 12 hours after his statement, was a coincidence and not a calculated PR move. 'The trailer was supposed to release much earlier. I cancelled it because of the attack on our nation. I even cancelled the premiere of Andaz Apna Apna that day," he said. The 1994 cult comedy was re-released in theatres on April 25. The actor admitted that the tragedy had left him shaken. 'Like every Indian's, there was a lot of anger and pain in my heart too. In fact, I was so depressed I didn't step out of home for days," he revealed. On the topic of patriotism, which Aamir says has been deeply woven into his cinematic work for decades, he pointed to his filmography as proof of his love for the country. 'My patriotism reflects in my work. Watch Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, Sarfarosh. I don't think any other actor has done more patriotic films than I have." He fondly recalled a compliment from veteran actor Manoj Kumar, who was famously called 'Bharat Kumar" for his nationalist roles. 'Manoj ji told me, 'If there's someone who's a patriot and doing something for the nation in the generation after mine, it's you.' He'd seen my films," Aamir shared. Facing years of trolling and social media backlash — especially before the release of Laal Singh Chaddha, which some believe affected its box office numbers — Aamir said he remains undeterred but introspective. He also took the opportunity to speak out against the misrepresentation of Islam by those who commit acts of terror in its name. 'No religion asks you to kill people. I don't consider these terrorists Muslims because it's written in Islam that you can't kill any innocent human, can't strike a woman or a child. They're going against the religion by doing what they are doing," said Aamir. Despite the controversies and the criticism, Aamir Khan remains one of Bollywood's most thoughtful voices, often choosing reflection over reaction. His latest remarks are another reminder of the complex space that celebrities occupy in an era of instant outrage and social scrutiny. First Published:

‘I don't consider Pahalgam terrorists Muslims': Aamir Khan answers if he's an ‘accidental patriot', says no religion endorses violence
Aamir Khan's statement condemning the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 came over a week later after India and Pakistan had agreed on a ceasefire post India's retaliatory military attack on terror camps in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor. Now, the actor has opened up on why he responded to the attack days after many of his fellow industry members did. 'The terror attack was cruel. It only demonstrates the terrorists' cowardice that they entered our country and fired bullets on common men. You or I could've also been there. They asked their religion and then fired bullets. What does that mean,' said Aamir, adding, 'I'm not on social media. People react instantly to these events there.' In the interview with India TV, Aamir did remind everyone he spoke about the Pahalgam terror attack at an event he attended around the same time. 'That was an attack not only on our nation, but also on our unity. They've already got a befitting response from our country,' said Aamir. Responding to claims that he spoke up only because his film Sitaare Zameen Par is nearing release, Aamir chuckled and said, 'If I speak about our forces delivering a befitting response, then am I doing something wrong? Should I think about the film or about our forces at that time? If I keep quiet just because my film is about to release, I feel that's wrong. So I spoke about it openly.' Aamir clarified that the Sitaare Zameen Par trailer releasing just 12 hours after his official statement was a mere coincidence. 'The trailer was supposed to release much earlier. I cancelled it because of the attack on our nation. I cancelled the premiere of Andaz Apna Apna that day,' explained Aamir. His 1994 cult comedy, Rajkumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna, was re-released in cinemas on April 25. 'Like every Indian's, there was a lot of anger and pain in my heart too. In fact, I was so depressed I didn't step out of home for days,' confessed Aamir. 'My patriotism reflects in my work. Watch Rang De Basanti (2006), Lagaan (2001), Sarfarosh (1999). I don't think any other actor has done more patriotic films than I have,' claimed Aamir. He recalled an instance of meeting the late legendary actor Manoj Kumar, who was referred to as 'Bharat' Kumar because of his brand of patriotic cinema. 'Manoj ji told me, 'If there's someone who's a patriot and doing something for the nation in the generation after mine, it's you.' He'd seen my films,' revealed Aamir. The actor has faced a lot of trolling for years, especially before his films release. Many believe that Laal Singh Chaddha's initial box office performance was impacted due to the wave of social media hate against Aamir. 'No religion asks you to kill people. I don't consider these terrorists Muslims because it's written in Islam that you can't kill any innocent human, can't strike a woman or a child. They're going against the religion by doing what they are doing,' said Aamir.

In a video circulating on social media from a wedding that he attended, Ranveer Singh can be seen visibly elated as he discusses his experiences as a new father. He says, 'I have been on daddy duty for a long time now. I am ready to let loose with you all. That infinite happiness I'm experiencing right now. I wish I had the words to express what it's like, but, there are no words, in any language, that can describe this happiness.' A post shared by BollywoodNow (@bollywoodnow) Ranveer and Deepika welcomed their daughter, Dua Padukone Singh, on September 8, 2024. Be it play dates, or making the kids learn some new skills, out Bollywood dads often prioritise being involved in their children's lives. Ranbir Kapoor is often spotted with daughter Raha Kapoor as they try new things. Ranbir Kapoor has often expressed his deep love and joy as a father to his daughter, Raha Kapoor. He has described the experience of being a father as a profound and life-changing one, filled with delight and a strong emotional connection to his daughter. He cherishes the time he spends with Raha and has spoken about the importance of instilling values like empathy, kindness, and respect in her. A post shared by Alia Bhatt 💛 (@aliaabhatt) In an interaction with entrepreneur and Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath on his podcast, Ranbir Kapoor spoke about his sweet-as-ever relationship with his daughter Raha Kapoor. When Nikhil Kamath asked Ranbir what it was like to have a daughter, the Animal actor expressed his feelings, saying, 'It is like somebody kind of took your heart out and put it in your arms.' He also mentions that he feels a sense of wonder and joy when he looks at Raha, stating that it's a feeling he never expected. Kunal Kemmu is often seen celebrating all festivals with his little one. Kunal and his actor wife Soha Ali Khan come from different cultural backgrounds but are often seen making all celebrations meaningful for their daughter Inaaya Naumi Kemmu. be it Eid or Ganesh Chaturthi or Diwali and Holi, they celebrate it all. A post shared by Soha (@sakpataudi) Soha in an interview with SCREEN once told, 'When I post something, people start commenting on my religion. Because I have married into a Hindu family, my mother has a Hindu surname and she married a Muslim man. Usually, if we post something on Diwali, they ask how many rozas I have kept. If we post on Holi, there are comments asking what kind of Muslim I am. It doesn't bother me, but it is something that I do notice. In an old interview to Syed Firdaus Ashraf, Soha shared how saw a 'multicultural family' and said, 'My mother is Hindu, my father Muslim. We celebrate every festival, be it Diwali or Eid,' and looks like this couple is following the same tradition at their house. Saif Ali Khan makes Taimur learn new skills Remember this Saif Ali Khan's guitar jamming photo with his son Taimur Ali Khan? Well, Saif is certainly one such dad who is making an effort to make his kid learn something new. Saif also makes sure to take his kids to the stadium to watch live matches. A post shared by Kareena Kapoor Khan (@kareenakapoorkhan) During a conversation with India Today, Saif spoke about his four children and said, 'Two of the elder kids are already actors, or want to be… Tim (Taimur), at one point, said that he can't bear the thought of getting up in front of people and saying lines, I would be petrified! I said that I completely understand. But now he tells me he's looking forward to his school play. The youngest one is a born performer, if you ever see him, and I know where that comes from. So, there's no pressure. It's a great job. But, for me, they could be school teachers… As long as you're happy.' Many A-listers of B-town have a 'no-photo' rule for their children and Shahid Kapoor is one such dad to Misha and Zain. While Shahid's social media has very less photographers of his kids, on their airport outings too, Shahid is often seen shielding his kids from the paparazzi. In an earlier interview, when asked about his approach to parenting, Shahid explained that there is no 'one-size-fits-all' rule. While talking to entrepreneur and content creator Raj Shamani, pointing out the importance of recognising each child's unique needs and said, 'Har insaan ka baccha alag hota hai aur har insaan ke circumstances alag hote hain (Every individual child is different and every individual's circumstances are different).' Shahid added that he believes that the key to successful parenting is balance, achieved through collaboration between both parents. A post shared by Shahid Kapoor (@shahidkapoor) Adding to his fundamental principle, Shahid shared, 'When you send kids for gymnastics, they have all this little protection. If they fall, they don't hurt themselves so badly. I feel that our role as parents is to allow them to fall softly and make every mistake without getting major punishment for it, within their home, around the people who love them the most. If I completely shut down, the fact that they can fall only when they go out in the world, they won't be able to deal with it. If I'm too hard on them, they will already have complexes before discovering the world. I think it's all about allowing them to find themselves, make mistakes, teach them what is good and bad behaviour, what is right and wrong, and give them a strong moral code which builds character in them. And, let them know that their circumstances are not earned by them but provided by their parents.' Varun Dhawan and his wife, Natasha Dalal, welcomed a baby girl in June, 2024. In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter India , the actor shared that he would not spare anyone trying to cause harm to his daughter. A post shared by VarunDhawan (@varundvn) Sharing his views on how fatherhood changes a man, Varun said, 'I think when any individual, any man, becomes a parent, it is a different experience for a mother. I feel she becomes a tigress, that moment only something happens. But, as a man, I'd say, that when we become parents, for some reason, you feel protection towards your daughter. I am sure you feel for sons also, but towards the daughter… If anyone causes even so much (little) harm to her, I'd kill them. I am dead serious when I say that. Literally, I'd kill them.' Shah Rukh Khan has often expressed his belief in bringing up daughters and sons as equals. He applies the rule that 'everything a son is allowed, so must a daughter be, and everything a daughter is disallowed, a son must too'. Shah Rukh on parenting highlights a nugget that often goes overlooked, but is perhaps one of the first steps in teaching children about equality. SRK once shared that he instructs his son Aryan to wear a shirt at home, explaining that if he would find it uncomfortable to see his mother, sister, or female friends shirtless, why would he expect them to accept him shirtless. 'If you'd feel uncomfortable seeing your mother, daughter, sister, women friends without their clothes on, why would you expect them to accept you shirtless? Don't do something a girl can't do,' shared SRK in an old interview. Well, there is certainly lots to learn from these role models. Here's wishing all dads a very Happy Father's Day!
