Two held for attack on property dealer, hunt on for other accused
LUCKNOW The Lucknow Police arrested two key accused, Arshal Ghazi and Faiz Ali Rizvi, for their alleged role in a public shootout that left a hotelier-cum-property dealer seriously injured in the Sarvodaya Nagar area on Sunday evening.
The incident took place after a group of armed assailants clashed earlier in the day with the victim, Majroob Mursaleen, 35, originally from Kursi in Barabanki, over food at a local hotel, police said. The video of the incident went viral on social media raising questions on the law and order in the state capital. The shooting, allegedly rooted in a long-standing family dispute, created panic among locals, said police.
According to ADCP (east) Pankaj Singh, a joint team from Ghazipur police station, SWAT/surveillance team of the crime branch and the East Zone crime unit nabbed the accused near Kalyan Apartment within a day of the crime. Along with their arrest, police recovered a .32 bore country-made pistol, live ammunition and a black SUV used in the attack.
'The involvement of 10 people has come to fore, out of which two are nabbed. A team is working to nab the remaining accused,' said the ADCP East.
Investigations revealed that the victim, Majroob Mursaleen, is the cousin of accused Arshal Ghazi. According to police, the accused fired four rounds at him outside a shop, aiming to settle personal scores. When bystanders gathered, the attackers fled in an SUV after removing its number plate in an attempt to evade identification.
According to police, the attack was not random. 'It was a targeted hit, carefully planned with help from friends and associates and had started over a dispute over food,' said an official part of the probe.
During interrogation, Arshal confessed to orchestrating the attack along with Farman, Nadeem, Samridh, Animesh, and others. A manhunt is underway to nab the remaining suspects.
The case opened a can of worms as both the accused have significant criminal records. 'Arshal Ghazi has a previous case under charges of assault, Faiz Ali Rizvi has been booked under Gangster Act, attempt to murder and fraud, among others including charges under the SC/ST Act,' the Lucknow Police stated in a release. 'Even the victim, Mursaleen, has a criminal background, suggesting deep-rooted rivalries,' said the ADCP.
The police lodged an FIR under multiple section including 190/191(2)/191(3)/109(1)/3(5) of the BNS, 7 CLA Act, 3/25 Arms Act.

Gujarat high court orders bank to defreeze account not linked to offence
Ahmedabad: After a bank froze the account of an Ahmedabad company at the request of Andhra Pradesh police during the investigation of a cheating case, the Gujarat high court ordered the bank to de-freeze the account. The court found that the transaction involving the account was unrelated to the offence under investigation. The case involved Capital Engraving, a company manufacturing advanced gravure cylinders. Around then, an individual named Gnana Prasad, proprietor of Latha Priya Enterprise and a regular customer of Melancia, filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell in Tirupati, alleging cheating of Rs 2.01 lakh. Investigating sleuths found that Melancia had transferred money to Capital Engraving's account at the Science City branch of Kalupur Commercial Co-Operative Bank Ltd. Police issued a notice to the bank, asking it to freeze the account under the provisions of Sections 94 and 106 of BNS. The bank complied with police's directions. Bhatt contended that the money transferred by Melancia to the account was part of a business transaction and unrelated to the alleged offence. However, the account was frozen merely because Melancia had transferred the amount. Upon reviewing the bank statement, the high court stated that the money transferred was related to a business transaction. "Considering all the aforesaid, since there is nothing on record to show the connection between the account of the petitioner and the offence under investigation at Alipiri police station, the present petition deserves consideration… The present petition is allowed." The high court ordered the bank account to be de-frozen after the bank lien marked the amount of Rs 2.01 lakh.

Khandwa anti-encroachment drive: 180 hectare of jungle land recovered on second day
Indore: The large-scale anti-encroachment drive in Amaakhujri forest of Khandwa's Gudi Range continued for a second day on Tuesday as the Forest Department, in coordination with police and administrative teams, claimed to recover the lost jungle from the encroachers. Senior forest officials said that their team has been actively working to clear over 250 hectares (approximately 600 acres) of illegally occupied forest land. Of this, around 70 hectares of land was freed from encroachment during an earlier drive, while the two-day-long crackdown, which concluded on Tuesday, saw the Forest Department recovering the remaining 180 hectares of jungle. This land was being used by the encroachers for farming by felling trees. The last day of the operation saw an increased deployment of machinery, with 40 diggers and excavators engaged in the clearing process. "On Monday, 100 hectares of encroached land were successfully reclaimed.
