Two held for attack on property dealer, hunt on for other accused
The incident took place after a group of armed assailants clashed earlier in the day with the victim, Majroob Mursaleen, 35, originally from Kursi in Barabanki, over food at a local hotel, police said. The video of the incident went viral on social media raising questions on the law and order in the state capital. The shooting, allegedly rooted in a long-standing family dispute, created panic among locals, said police.
According to ADCP (east) Pankaj Singh, a joint team from Ghazipur police station, SWAT/surveillance team of the crime branch and the East Zone crime unit nabbed the accused near Kalyan Apartment within a day of the crime. Along with their arrest, police recovered a .32 bore country-made pistol, live ammunition and a black SUV used in the attack.
'The involvement of 10 people has come to fore, out of which two are nabbed. A team is working to nab the remaining accused,' said the ADCP East.
Investigations revealed that the victim, Majroob Mursaleen, is the cousin of accused Arshal Ghazi. According to police, the accused fired four rounds at him outside a shop, aiming to settle personal scores. When bystanders gathered, the attackers fled in an SUV after removing its number plate in an attempt to evade identification.
According to police, the attack was not random. 'It was a targeted hit, carefully planned with help from friends and associates and had started over a dispute over food,' said an official part of the probe.
During interrogation, Arshal confessed to orchestrating the attack along with Farman, Nadeem, Samridh, Animesh, and others. A manhunt is underway to nab the remaining suspects.
The case opened a can of worms as both the accused have significant criminal records. 'Arshal Ghazi has a previous case under charges of assault, Faiz Ali Rizvi has been booked under Gangster Act, attempt to murder and fraud, among others including charges under the SC/ST Act,' the Lucknow Police stated in a release. 'Even the victim, Mursaleen, has a criminal background, suggesting deep-rooted rivalries,' said the ADCP.
The police lodged an FIR under multiple section including 190/191(2)/191(3)/109(1)/3(5) of the BNS, 7 CLA Act, 3/25 Arms Act.

14-yr-old girl found murdered J&K's Ganderbal
A 14-year-old girl was found murdered hours after she was kidnapped from near her home in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district on Sunday, officials said. Ganderbal senior superintendent of police Khalil Poswal said that the girl was kidnapped from near her home in Sehpora by some individuals when she was out with her sister. (File) Police have constituted a special investigation team (SIT) after filing a case under Section 103 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Officials said that the dead body of the girl, a class-7 student, was recovered in the morning from an area near a road at Sehpora Batpora in Ganderbal. The recovery of the dead body prompted anger and protests in the area seeking arrest and death penalty for the killers. 'The girl was a school student and was with her elder sister when they were targeted. The elder sister managed to escape but the younger sister was killed. She had been stabbed. We want the administration to arrest those involved and give them exemplary punishment,' said a protestor and neighbour of the victim's family. Ganderbal senior superintendent of police Khalil Poswal said that the girl was kidnapped from near her home in Sehpora by some individuals when she was out with her sister. 'She was kidnapped and now her body has been found. We have recovered some clues. We have registered a murder case under Section 103 BNS and constituted a SIT for a detailed investigation. The age of the girl is around 14-15 years,' Poswal said. Forensics teams took a few samples which were despatched to Chandigarh and other labs for analysis. Poswal said that the deceased's sister has idea of what happened but she and the rest of the family are still in trauma. The police have called in help from their colleagues in Srinagar and are also analysing the video footage of in and around the area. 'To know who were the kidnappers and what is the cause of this incident, we have also called teams from Srinagar. We have our own forensic experts here and we are also analysing the cameras on the routes for technical analysis,' he said. The SSP sought cooperation of the people in keeping calm and also providing clues about the case. 'We ensure that we will work out this case. We request people to maintain calm. A board of doctors has also been constituted for a detailed investigation,' he said.

Man in Delhi seeks help from friends to recover loan from brother-in-law, both killed
When Raji Ahmed asked his friends on August 10 to help him recover a sum of money that he had lent to his brother-in-law Shami Alam, little did he know what awaited him. In a span of two days, both Raji and Shami were found dead in different areas in Northeast Delhi, police said. The two had partied with four friends on August 10 at Raji's rented accommodation in New Chauhanpur's Mata Vali Gali. Police on Sunday said that while two men were arrested on August 15, in connection with the case, two others were nabbed a day later. These were the same men who were with the deceased at the New Chauhanpur house on August 10. According to the police, they were informed in the wee hours of August 11 that a body was found at Gali no. 26, C-Block, Khajuri Khas. 'A police team, along with forensic experts, reached the spot and examined the crime scene. The body was sent to GTB Hospital for a post-mortem examination. He was identified as Raji Ahmed, 33, a resident of Harkesh Market,' DCP (North East) Ashish Mishra said. During the probe, with the help of CCTV footage and call detail records, police zeroed in on Vicky Tomar (24) and Asfaq (19) and a manhunt was launched. While the police were tracing the movement of the accused on the day of the murder, they ended up at a building in New Chauhanpur and stumbled upon another body on August 12. 'A decomposed body of an unidentified man was recovered from a locked kitchen on the first floor of a house in Mata Vali Gali, New Chauhanpur. It was sent to GTB Hospital and a case under BNS Section 103(1) was filed. The deceased was identified as Shami Alam, 37,' DCP Mishra said. During questioning, the two accused told the police that they had planned upon assaulting Shami as Raji had allegedly asked them to help him recover a sum of money Shami had borrowed from him. 'Raji, Shami, Vicky, Asfaq and two other men — Faizaan (22) and Masoom (25) — had gathered for a party at the said building in New Chauhanpur on Sunday. Raji had taken it on rent. After Raji left, as planned, the four men thrashed Shami, leading to his death,' DCP Mishra said. The accused were now in a bind. They locked Shami's body in the kitchen and went after Raji. Fearing that Raji might tell the police about their involvement in the murder, they killed him as well. 'During questioning, they revealed that after killing Shami, they went to Khajuri Khas and murdered Raji to cover up the crime,' the DCP said. Faizaan and Masoom were arrested based on inputs given by Vicky and Asfaq.

UP woman alleges man faked identity, forced her to change religion
A woman from Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj has filed a police complaint against a man who allegedly deceived her by changing his identity, and later assaulted and blackmailed her after she refused to convert to another 25-year-old woman, currently residing in the Chinhat area of Lucknow, had enroled in Hotel Management College at BBD University in 2023. However, following her father's death and due to financial hardship, she was forced to drop out in August 2024 and started a small food shop to support was at this shop that she met a man who introduced himself as 'Raj' from Barabanki. Over time, the two became friends, and the man began pressuring her to marry him. Around Diwali 2024, during a visit to Bada Imambara, the woman discovered that the man's real name was Mohammad Furqan and that he had concealed his identity from the beginning. According to the complaint, the accused then tried to coerce the woman into converting to Islam. When she refused, he allegedly resorted to physical assault, strangulation, and issued threats to kill her. The woman also stated that Furqan threatened to release obscene photos of her August 7, the accused reportedly forcibly entered her rented accommodation and issued further threats.
