connecting Katra and Srinagar, laid foundation stones and dedicated to the nation multiple projects worth over ₹46,000 crore in Jammu and Kashmir.
The projects that Modi inaugurated included the world's highest rail bridge over the Chenab river and India's first cable-stayed rail bridge over the Anji River. Addressing a gathering in Katra, the PM said this event was a grand celebration of India's unity and determination. "We have always invoked Maa Bharati with deep reverence, saying 'from Kashmir to Kanniyakumari'. Today, this has become a reality even in our railway network," said Modi.
Modi laid the foundation stone for a new medical college in Jammu. "It is a privilege for our government that this ambitious railway project gained momentum during our tenure and has now been successfully completed. The challenges encountered - like the difficult terrain, extreme weather conditions and falling rocks in the mountains - make the project immensely tough and demanding," said Modi.

Study to map gaps in mass transit system plan as new metro corridor taking shape in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has decided to conduct a traffic study to evaluate whether the existing metro and public transport plans sufficiently address current and future needs. HMRTC has floated a tender for a study, which will be undertaken by a consultant agency expected to be onboarded shortly, with completion targeted within four months. An HMRTC official said, "With new residential sectors, industrial hubs and commercial zones developing, it is the right time to reassess metro accessibility and future needs." The missing links — as HMRTC calls it — will be assessed for their ridership potential, feasibility, estimated cost and integration with existing infrastructure. The consultant will "review" existing public transport services, including bus operations and para-transit networks and their role in supporting or limiting metro connectivity. The consultant will prepare detailed projections for travel needs for the next 30 years. The HMRTC official said the review is essential, as many parts of the city — especially peripheral and newly developing sectors — remain outside the metro's reach. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo "The study will also help pinpoint potential new corridors that could complement existing plans, plug critical gaps and expand metro coverage in underserved areas," the official said. The decision comes amid rapid urban expansion, growing population and expanding residential and commercial zones. As of now, the city has only 17km of metro (5.3km of Delhi Metro's Yellow Line and 11.7km of Rapid Metro). The new Millennium City Centre-Cyber City line, approved in 2023, is now in the tendering stage for Phase 1 (MCC to Sector 9). While there is no official figure for the current population, estimates suggest the city has crossed 25 lakh and by 2031, the Gurugram-Manesar Urban Complex (GMUC) area is projected to accommodate over 42.5 lakh residents. The study will map existing metro connectivity and identify new corridors. HMRTC believes the current metro expansion plan "needs a comprehensive review to accommodate shifting travel patterns and emerging growth centres", an official said. Each proposed corridor will be mapped digitally, with tentative station locations and phase-wise implementation plans. HMRTC's study, which comes amid the city's worsening traffic congestion and inadequate public transport, will focus on the master plan of GMUC. It aims to plug connectivity gaps in the Comprehensive Mobility Management Plan (CMMP) drafted in 2020. The CMMP in 2020 proposed a 200km network of metro and rapid rail corridors. Of the ten Mass Rapid Transit System lines, only one corridor — 29.05km between Millennium City Centre and Cyber Hub — is currently under implementation. Others, such as Sector 56–Pachgaon via Manesar, Bhondsi–Sohna Chowk–Railway Station and Golf Course Extension Road–Millennium City Centre–Sector 5, are still in the planning stages.

Govt targeting 2034 to hold 1st 'one nation, one election'
NEW DELHI: As the govt is expecting to hold the first countrywide simultaneous polls by 2034 after passage of the constitutional amendment bill for 'one nation, one election', all state assemblies to be elected after 2029 will be for a shorter duration to align their tenure with the 2034 general elections. Head of the joint parliamentary committee (JPC) on the 'one nation, one election' bill (The Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024) PP Choudhary explained to TOI that after 2027, the assembly due to be elected in 2032 may have a tenure of only two years to ensure the synchronisation of the next elections in Uttar Pradesh-India's largest state electorally -with the Lok Sabha polls which may be held in 2034. The Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment Bill), 2024, have provisions for simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. As per provisions of the constitution amendment bill, the President may issue a notification on the date of the first sitting of Lok Sabha after a general election, in all probability the one to be held in 2029, to spell when the next general elections will be due. The terms of all state assemblies constituted after this date will expire with the end of that Lok Sabha's five-year term. If Lok Sabha or a state assembly is dissolved earlier than its five-year term, an election for it will be held for a term equal to the remainder of the five-year term. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 전체임플란트 간단 뼈이식포함 300만원에 kimplant 더 알아보기 Undo This will synchronise its next election with the simultaneous elections cycle. Even in states, where polls will be due, elections for assemblies will be held only to align with the Lok Sabha polls. However, the bill states that if the Election Commission is of the opinion that election to a state assembly cannot be held along with the rest of the country, it may make a recommendation to the President in this regard. The President may issue an order to conduct an election for that assembly at a later date. The BJP MP from Pali in Rajasthan, Choudhary, said going by the JPC's working, its tenure may be extended as there was a consensus amongst panel members to visit states and UTs before making the final recommendations. So far, JPC members have visited Maharashtra and Uttarakhand. The bills had been introduced in LS in Dec last year and were referred to the Chaudhary-led panel which has been holding consultations with stakeholders for feedback.
