The Environment Agency,Abu Dhabi (EAD) has announced that it received its second Carbon Neutrality Certification from Applus+.
Applus+ is a verification agency accredited by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This milestone makes EAD the first regulatory body in the UAE to receive this certification twice.
EAD revealed that this achievement further confirms its commitment to tackling climate change and promoting environmental sustainability in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary General of EAD, commented on the announcement. She stated that receiving the certification again reflects EAD's dedication to building a sustainable future for Abu Dhabi.
She reported that EAD offset its carbon emissions for the period from 2020 to 2022. The agency aims to inspire other government entities and encourage the private sector to adopt sustainable practices.
According to EAD, any greenhouse gas emissions were assessed by GE3S and verified by Applus+.
EAD's carbon neutrality approach included identifying and addressing emissions from: Energy consumption in buildings and chilled water
Waste generation and fuel use in vehicles and generators
To reduce its environmental footprint, the agency is taking several steps.
It is upgrading its vehicle fleet to hybrid models to cut fuel use and emissions. It has also replaced all lighting systems with energy-efficient LED lights and sensors. Smart water systems were installed to optimize usage and reduce waste.
Additionally, EAD reported that it adopted environmentally friendly air-conditioning systems at all its facilities.
In its ongoing sustainability efforts, the agency is integrating solar panels into new projects. These projects are aligned with LEED Zero Carbon standards to reduce energy use and emissions.
EAD emphasized that this achievement supports broader climate action goals. The agency continues to lead in environmental stewardship and aims to inspire other organizations to adopt carbon management strategies.

Dubai Municipality interacts with Al Barsha residents for development of two parks

In an effort to get residents' ideas for new parks and green recreational spaces that address their daily needs, reflect community aspirations, and contribute to enhancing quality of life, Dubai Municipality engaged with residents of Al Barsha in an open, on-the-ground dialogue session. The organisation's leadership team was headed by Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality. During the meeting, the Municipality's Public Facilities Agency presented plans to develop two parks and a central recreational space covering more than 31,000 square feet. Residents shared their preferences to shape how the parks will be designed, including safe play areas for children and running tracks for athletes, to family seating spaces, cycling lanes, and accessible facilities for all. Bin Ghalita stressed the importance of field engagement, commenting: 'Our citizens are our priority, and their voice is the foundation of any successful project. We do not just design parks on paper; we design them with the people and for the people, ensuring every individual feels the space is part of daily life and offers advanced well-being for the whole community.' The discussion also addressed construction activity in the area, with updates on efforts to enhance and develop building systems, regulate housing rentals, and improve accommodation standards for bachelors, ensuring integrated urban development in Al Barsha. The leaders highlighted initiatives designed to enhance customer experience, including the 'Happiness Vehicle', which visits citizens' homes to complete digital transactions, and the 'Virtual Appointment System' which enables direct communication with Dubai Municipality leadership from anywhere.

Oman Data Park's Solar-Powered Data Centre Breakthrough

Greenlogue/AP Oman Data Park has formed a strategic alliance with Solar Wadi to establish the Sultanate's inaugural green energy data centre, powered by solar generation. The collaboration marks a significant step in aligning ODP's technological infrastructure with Oman's net-zero ambitions, as the data centre is set to harness sustainable energy to lower operational emissions and improve grid resilience. ODP, long regarded as the nation's leading provider of managed services, cloud platforms and cybersecurity solutions, is extending its operational philosophy to prioritise environmental responsibility. The agreement with Solar Wadi will see the integration of solar energy into ODP's power mix, effectively positioning this development as Oman's first environmentally powered data centre. ADVERTISEMENT ODP's Chief Executive, Eng. Maqbool Al Wahaibi, has underscored the project's dual strategic value: it reinforces the company's commitment to sustainable practices while responding to growing demand for digital infrastructure that aligns with climate goals. The initiative also dovetails with Oman's broader climate action roadmap, which includes institutional support through the newly launched Oman Net Zero Centre. This centre coordinates net-zero strategy development, energy-efficiency efforts and clean-technology adoption across government and private sectors. Solar Wadi enters the partnership with experience in renewable energy development and investment. As one of the pioneering independent Omani power companies, Solar Wadi delivers solar projects across various global markets, backed by pension funds and local as well as international investors. Its track record includes deploying systems that significantly reduce carbon emissions—projects like 100 MW solar plants that can mitigate 160,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents annually. The green data centre initiative arrives amid broader industry and governmental efforts to promote sustainability within Oman's ICT sector. Technical specialists advocate for innovations such as AI-optimised energy management systems, advanced cooling methods suitable for arid climates—including liquid immersion and sea-water cooling—and renewable-powered microgrids coupled with smart grid integration. These innovations support energy resilience and align with Oman's Vision 2040 targets. ODP's existing operations cover approximately 10 megawatts across five data centres, with plans to double capacity to meet rising demand, particularly for AI infrastructure. The green energy initiative injects a new strategic dimension into this expansion, affirming the company's emphasis on reducing carbon intensity as digital growth accelerates. This solar-powered development is one among multiple ODP-led infrastructure advances. Among other regional moves, ODP previously signed a substantial agreement—totaling $450 million—with INTRO Technology to build the Kemet Data Centre in Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone. That facility is also designed to incorporate solar energy solutions, supporting sustainable operations beyond Oman.
