LIWA (WAM)His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, today visited the 21st Liwa Date Festival in Liwa City, Al Dhafra Region.The festival - organised by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority under the patronage of His Highness - considered one of the most prominent agricultural and heritage festivals in the UAE. The event reaffirms the Authority's commitment to celebrating one of the UAE's most enduring cultural and agricultural traditions.During his tour, His Highness reviewed several pavilions of government and private entities showcasing their services and innovations in the agricultural sector. He also listened to explanations about the festival's various competitions and activities, which highlight the social and economic value of the palm tree and its products. The event also underscores the tree's contribution to food security and the enhancement of agricultural sustainability.His Highness Sheikh Mansour emphasised that the agriculture and food production sector is witnessing significant growth in the UAE, thanks to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and his continuous support for empowering farmers, producers, and manufacturers to ensure sustainable food production and strengthen national food security.His Highness affirmed that the festival reflects the Emirati citizen's deep connection with the land and reinforces national identity by celebrating the palm tree as a cultural symbol. Supporting local agriculture and empowering farmers contributes to a balanced economic distribution and sustainable development aligned with the national goal of achieving food self-sufficiency.His Highness also praised the festival's role in boosting economic activity in the Al Dhafra Region by attracting thousands of visitors annually and serving as a platform that brings together farmers, experts, and pioneers in the agricultural industries—cementing the agricultural sector as a vital contributor to the national economy.Accompanying His Highness on the tour were Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, and several officials from the authority.The Liwa Date Festival features numerous competitions with total prizes exceeding AED 8.7 million. It includes a range of heritage activities that aim to preserve the legacy and status of the palm tree as a symbol of the past and a blessing of the present. It also strengthens family and community bonds, ensures intergenerational continuity, and promotes values of cooperation, belonging, and cultural heritage preservation—supporting the goals of the UAE's 'Year of the Community.'
The festival also plays a vital role in supporting the local community and productive families in the region through the traditional market, which includes stalls for selling fresh dates, date products, palm-related items, factories, and nurseries. SIB reports AED 697.2 million net profit in H1 2025
Income from investments in Islamic financing and sukuk grew by AED 113.6 million, or 6.4%, reaching AED 1.9 billion in the first half of 2025, compared to AED 1.8 billion in the first half of 2024. Sharjah Islamic Bank continues to emphasize the diversification of its revenue base, as evidenced by a significant growth in the net fee and commission income which rose sharply by 53.5% to AED 276.0 million in the first half of 2025, up from AED 179.8 million in the first half of 2024. As a result, the Bank recorded total operating income of AED 1.2 billion, an increase of AED 133.5 million, or 13.0%, compared to AED 1.0 billion in the same period last year. This upward trend reflects SIB's ability to maintain stable operating income in a challenging economic environment while effectively capitalizing on opportunities across various economic sectors . Total general and administrative expenses for the first half of 2025 amounted to AED 405.4 million, an increase of 16.9% compared to AED 346.9 million in the same period of 2024. This rise is mainly attributed to the Bank's continued investment in human capital, technology, and operational infrastructure to support business expansion and improve customer service. Despite the increase in expenses, the Bank's net operating income before impairment provisions reached AED 757.2 million, compared to AED 682.1 million in the first half of 2024, reflecting a 11.0% increase, which shows the Bank's ability to absorb cost pressures while maintaining stable profitability, reinforcing its operational efficiency and sound financial management . The Bank recorded a net reversal of impairment provisions of AED 9.3 million during the first half of 2025, compared to an impairment provision of AED 67.3 million in the first half of 2024, reflecting a significant improvement in the quality of the financing portfolio as well as prudent credit risk management and successful recovery efforts. This positive development contributed significantly to the 25% increase in profit after tax, which reached AED 697.2 million, compared to AED 558.7 million in the same period last year. These results confirm the effectiveness of the Bank's risk mitigation strategies and its commitment to preserving asset quality amid a changing global economic environment . On the balance sheet side, total assets increased by AED 5.5 billion, or 6.9%, to reach AED 84.7 billion as of June 30, 2025 compared to AED 79.2 billion at the end of the previous year. This is backed by increase in total customer financing to AED 43.0 billion, compared to AED 38.1 billion at the end of 2024, marking a 12.9% increase . Customer deposits amounted to AED 52.7 billion, compared to AED 51.8 billion at the end of the previous year. As a result, the financing to deposit ratio stood at 81.5%, compared to 73.6% at the end of the previous year . SIB continued to maintain a strong liquidity ratio of 21.1% of total assets, amounting to AED 17.8 billion, compared to 21.6% at the end of the previous year . The return on assets and return on equity also increased, reaching 1.70% and 14.88%, respectively, compared to 1.44% and 12.76% for the previous year .

dnata Deploys Autonomous Vehicles to Enhance Airport Ground Operations at DWC
dnata has introduced autonomous ground support vehicles at Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC), marking a significant advancement in automating airport ramp operations. The move is part of a broader effort to streamline one of the most labour- and time-intensive areas in aviation—ground handling. The rollout includes six EZTow electric baggage tractors, developed by TractEasy. These autonomous vehicles can tow up to four baggage containers at speeds of up to 15 km/h along predefined routes. By automating baggage movement between terminals and aircraft, dnata aims to reduce human error, enhance airside safety, and reassign drivers to more complex operational tasks that add value and speed up aircraft turnarounds. This AED 6 million (USD $1.6 million) initiative begins with Level 3 autonomy, which allows for limited human intervention, and is expected to evolve into Level 4 full autonomy by early 2026. The deployment also serves as a testbed for future large-scale automation at DWC, which is set to become the world's largest airport with a planned capacity of 260 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo annually. Jaffar Dawood, Divisional Senior Vice President for UAE Airport Operations at dnata, said: 'This is an important step forward for both dnata and the wider aviation industry… automation could be key to building smarter, safer and more resilient infrastructure.' Sharjah issues decision to regulate health activities, professions
The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), during its meeting, on Tuesday, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the Council, issued a decision regarding the regulation of practising health activities and professions in the Emirate of Sharjah. The provisions of the decision apply to local health establishments affiliated with the government of the emirate, as well as private health facilities in the emirate and free zones. H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), chaired the SEC meeting, on Tuesday, held at the Sharjah Ruler's Office. At the start of the meeting, the SEC extended its congratulations to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as well as to the leadership and people of the United Arab Emirates, on the occasion of Faya being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The SEC affirmed that this historic achievement reflects Sharjah's rich historical and archaeological value. It also documents humanity's ability to adapt in the region across different eras and periods, and crowns the Emirate's research and scientific efforts to preserve its historical and human heritage. The SEC praised the approval by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah of a new batch of housing support beneficiaries in the Emirate, designated for urgent cases, with a budget of AED335 million. This reflects His Highness' commitment to ensuring a dignified life and supporting families in ways that enhance their stability and social cohesion. The SEC reviewed the final accounts report for the year 2024, which outlines the actual financial results, expenditures, and revenues for government and independent departments and entities in the Emirate of Sharjah for the 2024 fiscal year. The SEC issued a decision regarding the regulation of practising health activities and professions in the Emirate of Sharjah. The provisions apply to local health establishments affiliated with the Government of Sharjah and private health facilities in the Emirate and free zones, as well as professionals working in those establishments. The provisions do not apply to federal government health facilities operating in the Emirate. The decision aims to achieve the following: Establish an integrated system for health regulation management concerned with the development of health facility licensing services by the Sharjah Health Authority, as well as the licensing of health professionals and the assurance of quality healthcare services. Promote good governance standards by reinforcing the principles of transparency, fairness, and legal accountability in the Emirate's healthcare sector. Lay down the legal foundations for practising health professions to ensure their advancement and the provision of the best healthcare services to individuals. The decision also includes legal provisions related to the powers of the Sharjah Health Authority, committees on accountability, medical practice and grievances, as well as regulations for the practice of health activities and professions, conditions and procedures for issuing health facility permits and professional health licences, along with administrative penalties, fees, judicial enforcement, and other legal stipulations.
