US dollar continues to fall against Iraqi dinar at Saturday's close
Closing figures from Baghdad's central Al-Kifah and Al-Harithiya exchanges showed the dollar trading at 139,600 dinars per 100 US dollars. This rate represented a 200-dinar drop from the prices recorded during the morning's trading sessions.
In the capital's local exchange shops, the selling price for the dollar remained stable at 140,000 dinars per $100, while the buying price fell to 139,600 dinars, reflecting the lower wholesale rate.
Meanwhile, currency markets in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, saw even lower rates. The dollar was selling for 139,400 dinars and buying for 139,250 dinars per 100 US dollars. The continued decrease in the dollar's value reflects a persistent strengthening of the local currency in Iraq's main economic centers.

Iraq to increase oil output to 4.22 million bpd in September
Baghdad ( – The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) said on Sunday that Iraq will increase its oil production to 4.22 million barrels per day (bpd) in September. The organization said in a statement that the eight OPEC+ countries—Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, the UAE, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman—will implement a production adjustment of 547,000 barrels per day in September 2025 compared to August 2025 required production levels. The decision followed a meeting to evaluate global market circumstances and prospects. The step reflects a strong worldwide economic outlook and solid market fundamentals and is in accordance with the decision reached on December 5, 2024, to commence a gradual and flexible return of the 2.2 million barrels per day voluntary adjustments beginning April 1, 2025. The Deputy Oil Minister for Extraction Affairs, Basim Khudair, said in March that the ministry aims to boost the country's oil and gas production capacity within a well-defined five-year plan. Khudair explained that the government aims to increase oil output to more than six million barrels per day by 2028 or 2029, according to the state news agency (INA). According to Statista, a German online platform that specializes in data collection, Iraq produced over 4.4 million barrels of oil per day in 2023, which was less than the previous year. Between 2005 and 2019, the country's oil output rapidly increased, hitting a record high of more than 4.78 million barrels per day. Since then, Iraq's annual oil output has continuously declined.

Iraq, Iran advance toward resolving disputes over gas export levels
Baghdad ( – The Iranian Minister of Oil, Mohsen Paknejad, stated on Saturday Iran and Iraq are working to address conflicts over gas export levels and outstanding charges. Following a meeting with Iraqi Electricity Minister Ziyad Ali Fadel in Tehran, Paknejad stated that the two sides struck an agreement on the volume of gas shipments to Iraq. Paknejad explained that he discussed with Fadel the volumes of Iranian gas exports to Iraq and that an agreement has been reached, according to a statement released by the Iranian Oil Ministry and cited by local media. The discussions yielded constructive results both in terms of the volumes of Iran's gas exports to Iraq and the outstanding payments, according to Paknejad. Under an agreement signed between the two countries, Iran supplies Iraq with 55 million cubic meters of gas to operate power plants. Iranian gas supplies to Iraq have fallen since May, forcing several power plants in Iraq to shut down or lower operational hours, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity. Since June 2013, Iran has supplied natural gas to Iraq through contracts, notably to power plants in Baghdad and Basra.
