Halo makes its PS5 debut this month with a Helldivers 2 crossover

Metro2 days ago
A very blatant teaser heralds Halo coming to PS5 via a crossover, but a proper game is rumoured to be launching soon too.
Years ago, if you had suggested Halo, the former killer app of the Xbox brand, would come to PlayStation consoles, you'd be met with scorn and mockery for your unrealistic expectations.
Now though, that's merely a case of when and not if. Microsoft has already ported several big Xbox titles to the PlayStation 5, as part of its multiplatform strategy, with even Gears Of War set to join them this month.
While Halo's not formally confirmed, Microsoft has never ruled it out and now a very blatant teaser has all confirmed the franchise's PlayStation debut… albeit in a different game entirely.
No, Microsoft hasn't abruptly announced that rumoured remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved. Instead, it looks like a Halo crossover will be added to Helldivers 2 once the game launches on Xbox on August 26.
Although it's not an internally developed title, Helldivers 2 was published by Sony when it launched last year, which is why it's only ever been available on PlayStation 5 and PC.
This past July, Sony and developer Arrowhead Game Studios announced an Xbox port, one handled by Nixxes (a Sony owned studio responsible for multiple PC ports of PlayStation 5 games) and featuring cross-play, so PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC players can all play together.

A new trailer for the Xbox launch dropped earlier today and towards the end, a familiar tune Halo fans will recognise plays over footage of a hellpod landing in a city.
The music comes from 2009's Halo 3: ODST, so Master Chief himself may not be making a cameo (since he wasn't in Halo 3: ODST), but likely the Spartan armour or weapons from that game will be included with a new Helldivers 2 battle pass.
And in case you think any such Halo content will be exclusive to the Xbox version, the Halo tease is also included in the upload for the official PlayStation YouTube account as well. More Trending
Given the timing, a more formal confirmation will likely take place during Gamescom next week. Perhaps alongside PlayStation 5 ports of Halo games, if only for the sake of synergy.
It's recently been suggested that some kind of Halo PlayStation 5 launch is happening very soon. According to Halo dataminer grunt.api, as reported by insider Rebs Gaming, they claim to have found evidence of two new Halo games; one of which has PlayStation 5 compatibility.
This game is apparently already linked to PlayFab, a Microsoft owned platform used for cross-platform play, which could point to it being a rumoured multiplayer Halo game that's said to be in the works at Certain Affinity.
Rebs Gaming theorises that any such Halo announcement will probably be saved for the Halo World Championships taking place in October, where Halo Studios itself has promised to share the 'official scoop' of the future of the series.

How Israel used Microsoft technology to spy on Palestinians

Yossi Sariel was in charge of one of the branches of Israel's intelligence agency. When he took over Unit 8200 he arrived with ambitious plans – to use tech to change the way intelligence was gathered and analysed. The Guardian's Harry Davies tells Nosheen Iqbal about an investigation he carried out with Yuval Abraham, the Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 magazine and the Hebrew-language outlet Local Call. It found Sariel had a plan to transfer large amounts of Unit 8200's data, including top-secret information, into Microsoft's cloud platform, which is called Azure. Having this much data storage would allow Sariel to fulfil his plans to carry out mass surveillance on Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. Microsoft says it did not know what it was storing and that there is no evidence linking its technologies to the targeting or harm of civilians. But what exactly did Microsoft agreed to … and how might that data be used to target Palestinians?

Cisco projects upbeat quarterly revenue as AI fuels networking equipment demand

Aug 13 (Reuters) - Cisco Systems (CSCO.O), opens new tab forecast first-quarter revenue above Wall Street estimates on Wednesday, as the artificial intelligence boom boosted demand for its networking equipment from cloud customers. Hyperscale cloud investments are healthy and driving IT infrastructure financing, which sets up a good backdrop for Cisco. "Within the enterprise spending environment, there is incremental spending to beef up the infrastructure to accommodate AI, so that could potentially be another growth driver, especially with Cisco having such a big presence in the traditional enterprise market," Edward Jones analyst David Heger said. Big tech firms such as Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tab, Amazon (AMZN.O), opens new tab and Alphabet (GOOGL.O), opens new tab are ramping up spending to ease capacity shortages that have limited their ability to meet AI demand, even after several quarters of multi-billion-dollar outlays. Cisco's AI infrastructure orders exceeded $800 million in the fourth quarter, bringing the total for fiscal 2025 to over $2 billion, more than double its original target, CEO Chuck Robbins said on a post-earnings call. The company has not seen any pull-forward in demand for products, but did note a small impact from tariffs in the quarter and during the fiscal year, he added. "We expect the sovereign AI opportunity to build momentum in the second half of fiscal 2026. Cisco will be a core system provider for these significant AI training and inference cluster build outs and integral to their development and eventual hyperscaling." Cisco has partnered with Humain, Saudi Arabia's state-backed AI company, and it will provide digital solutions for Bahrain's government information and telecommunications infrastructure. The company expects revenue to be between $14.65 billion and $14.85 billion for the first quarter, compared with analysts' average estimate of $14.62 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG. Its revenue for the fourth quarter ended July 26 came in at $14.67 billion, compared with estimates of $14.62 billion. Networking product orders grew in the double digits during the quarter, driven by webscale infrastructure, switching, enterprise routing, industrial IoT and servers.

All-electric Range Rover Evoque lookalike for just £27,505

New Chinese brand Jaecoo has taken the UK by storm in 2025 delivering over 10,000 of its new Jaecoo 7 SUVs already this year. The Range Rover Velar lookalike has gone down a storm with buyers who have fallen for its good looks, efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain and – most of all – its value for money. Next up in the UK this October is the smaller, all-electric Jaecoo E5 that promises more of the same. First shown at the Shanghai Motor Show in April this year, the E5 follows the same styling themes with more than a hint of Range Rover Evoque about it. Although smaller than the Jaecoo 7, the E5 offers even better value. Just £27,505 gets you the entry Pure model with a six-speaker Sony audio system, adaptive cruise control, a panoramic camera system and a 13.2-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and 'Hi Jaecoo' voice control. Moving up to Luxury costs you a still very reasonable £30,505 and adds a panoramic sunroof, wireless mobile phone charging, heated and ventilated electrically adjustable front seats, multi-coloured ambient lighting, and an eight-speaker Sony stereo. Both models are powered by a 61.1kWh battery feeding a 204bhp electric motor, getting the E5 from 0 to 62mph in 7.7 seconds. Jaecoo claims a maximum range for the E5 of 248 miles, while charging at speeds up to 80kW might not be class leading these days, but it still means a 30 to 80 per cent charge should take around 27 minutes. Both models also get V2L (Vehicle to Load) capability, meaning you can power household appliances from the car via a three-pin plug. Jaecoo also says there are 35 interior storage spaces, while the boot is an impressive 480 litres that can grow to 1,180 litres with the seats down. The E5 is dog friendly, too, with a 'Pet Mode' that keeps the cabin cool for pets when the car is parked, while there is also a range of Jaecoo-branded pet accessories available. Jaecoo also claims that the E5 has been developed specifically for UK roads, hopefully answering some of the criticisms levelled at the E5's sister car, the Omoda E5, with which it shares many of its EV components. Jaecoo, along with Omoda, is owned by Chinese car maker Chery, which has also decided to bring its own-brand cars to the UK starting with the cheerily-named Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8. And like those cars, the Jaecoo E5 will come with a standard seven-year warranty with eight years cover for the battery. As with the Jaecoo 7, a petrol Jaecoo 5 model will follow the electrified model in due course.
