'Because of liberal sanctuary policies, Manjot Singh of India was arrested at least SIX different times by local authorities for crimes including robbery, criminal impersonation, DUI, and more,' ICE wrote, adding, 'Now that he's in our custody, Manjot should expect to be deported.'
The agency's video shows the man being detained by ICE officials. A separate tweet adds that he was arrested jointly by ICE Seattle, Homeland Security Investigations Northwest, and the United States Border Patrol. Manjot Singh is reportedly 25 years old.

What is a 'Sanctuary City'?
According to the Seattle government's official website, this terminology means "all City departments prioritize and consider policies, actions, and practices that help immigrant and refugee communities succeed." The site, however, warns that the word can often be "misused, misinterpreted, or misunderstood."
It further states that in Seattle, the city employees do not ask about immigration status. "This 'don't ask' policy allows our police department to build strong relationships within immigrant and refugee communities, which makes them safer. Crime is statistically significantly lower in so-called 'sanctuary counties' compared to 'non-sanctuary counties,' and economies are stronger in so-called 'sanctuary counties' compared to 'non-sanctuary counties'," the site states.

Bihar voter roll revision is assault on foundations of democracy, say 93 ex-bureaucrats
A group of 93 retired civil servants and diplomats, on Tuesday, called the ongoing special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar an 'assault on the very foundations of our democracy', referring to the right to vote. 'The assault is an insidious one where the purported attempt to clean up and sanitise the electoral rolls is likely to end up disenfranchising a very large segment of the voting population, particularly the poor and the marginalised,' the Constitutional Conduct Group said. The group of former bureaucrats highlighted that a vast majority of the economically weaker sections of the population have held their right to vote as the 'most fundamental stake in Indian democracy' because a liberal approach was followed to prepare electoral rolls, with the understanding that several Indians lack documentation to prove their citizenship. 'This process has now been reversed to ensure that those with poor access to documents will be deprived of their rights as voters,' the group contended. The former bureaucrats argued that the exercise by the Election Commission allows it to effectively become a deciding authority on citizenship rights' without possessing the constitutional mandate to do so. The exercise, under the guise of cleaning up voter lists, attempts to 'introduce the contested idea of the NRC [National Register of Citizens] through the backdoor', the group further alleged. The group also raised alarm at the 'breakneck speed' at which the process of revising the electoral roll has been implemented. It highlighted that booth-level officers have been tasked with completing the process with 'grossly inadequate infrastructure' and under 'impossible timelines'. The group also cited journalist Ajit Anjum's reportage as evidence that there has been a massive scale of 'fraud and forgery' during the entire process. In a video posted on his YouTube channel on July 12, Anjum had claimed that he had found irregularities in the revision of the electoral rolls in the state, with several enumeration forms at the booth not having photos of the applicants and others that had been partially filled or did not have signatures. Anjum was, however, booked by the police for allegedly interfering in the Bihar voter roll revision process and for allegedly provoking communal discord. Several press bodies questioned the filing of a case against him, saying that the authorities should not 'criminalise journalism'. The signatories to the statement by the Constitutional Conduct Group include Punjab's former director general of police Julio Ribeiro, Delhi's former Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and former Indian Administrative Service officer Harsh Mander. The revision of the electoral rolls in Bihar was announced by the Election Commission on June 24. As part of the exercise, persons whose names were not on the 2003 voter list will need to submit proof of eligibility to vote. This means that 2.9 crore out of the state's 7.8 crore voters – or about 37% of the electors – will have to submit documentary evidence. Voters born before July 1, 1987, must show proof of their date and place of birth, while those born between July 1, 1987, and December 2, 2004, must also submit documents establishing the date and place of birth of one of their parents. Those born after December 2, 2004, will need proof of date of birth for themselves and both parents. A draft roll will be published on August 1 and the final roll will be out on September 30. On July 2, eleven INDIA bloc parties told the Election Commission that the special intensive revision of Bihar's electoral rolls risked disenfranchising more than 2.5 crore voters, as they may not be able to produce the necessary documents. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on July 6 defended the exercise, claiming that the exercise had to be carried out as no one was satisfied with the current voter rolls.

Bilaterals have not been happening for a while." However, earlier in April, Ganguly had said all ties with Pakistan must bet stopped after the Pahalgam attack. Speaking to ANI, Ganguly said, "100 per cent, this (breaking ties with Pakistan) should be done. Strict action is necessary. It is no joke that such things happen every year. Terrorism cannot be tolerated." Ganguly also lauded India's performance in the Manchester Test, where the Shubman Gill -led side played with grit to force a draw, despite England dominating for most part of the match. "I thought the India team was very good in Manchester. The way Rahul, Gill, Jadeja, Washington played was remarkable," Ganguly said. "A week ago they had to chase 193 at Lord's. The quality of batsmanship they have showed in the series for everyone there will be thinking it was their test match to be won. India's batting being in superb form in the series. It's so good to see Rahul, Gill, Pant, Jadeja, Washington Sundar take the game up to a new level."

Representatives from the United States are set to visit India on 25 August 2025 for the next round of negotiations for the proposed India-US trade deal, news agency PTI reported on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, citing officials aware of the development. 'The US team is visiting for the sixth round of talks,' the official told the news agency. He also mentioned that the two nations will continue to negotiate an interim trade deal as US President Donald Trump's 1 August tariff deadline nears. Trump's tariffs on world nations will be imposed on 1 August 2025 after the end of the suspension period, which means exports from India to the United States will witness the effect of a 26 per cent tariff rate on top of the existing 10 per cent baseline duty. Indian and US delegations finished their fifth round of trade talks last week in Washington. India's chief negotiator and special secretary of the Department of Commerce, Rajesh Agrawal, and Assistant US Trade Representative for South and Central Asia, Brendan Lynch, discussed the trade deal ahead of the tariff deadline. According to the report, both nations are looking to finalise an interim trade deal before the August tariff deadline. The reciprocal tariffs were imposed on 2 April 2025 and were supposed to take effect from 9 July 2025. However, the deadline for the imposition of the import duties was later extended to 1 August 2025. India, in its trade negotiations with the US, has hardened its position on the US's demand for import duty cuts on agriculture and dairy products. However, the country has not given any import duty cuts on these products to any of its trading partners, as per the agency report. Farmer associations across India have also requested the government not to include any issues related to agriculture in the trade deal. India aims to remove the additional 26 per cent tariffs, along with the 50 per cent rates on steel and aluminium and 25 per cent tariffs on automobiles. The nation has also reserved its rights under the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to impose retaliatory tariffs on the Western nation. India also wants tariff cuts on textiles, gems and jewellery, leather goods, garments, plastics, chemicals, shrimp, oil seeds, grapes, and bananas. In exchange, the United States is seeking tariff cuts on industrial goods, automobiles, especially electric vehicles, wines, petrochemical products, agri goods, dairy products, apples, tree nuts, and genetically modified crops.
