FedEx Optimizes Logistics Operations With New Facility in Vianen
Strategic Growth and Operational Efficiency Built for strategic growth, the new facility in Vianen features a warehouse space of 5,865 m² and 816 m² of office space. It offers extensive operational benefits compared to the previous location. It includes ten dock doors for trailers—one equipped with a scissor lift and nine with loose load capabilities. A new sorting machine significantly increases efficiency, with a maximum sorting capacity of 3,600 parcels per hour. Thanks to 48 direct loading positions for vans at the conveyor belt, parcel processing is now faster and ergonomically improved.
Advanced Technology The facility is equipped with new technologies, including parcel X-ray, a customs cage, and a designated aviation security area for processing secure air freight. Additionally, the site features a caster deck to efficiently unload unit load devices from trailers. These improvements enable faster parcel handling and delivery, while the advanced sorting system automatically detects whether shipments have been cleared by customs. Moreover, the planning department is located on-site, allowing for optimal freight scheduling.
With an A-level energy label and FedEx's broader goal of achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040, the facility has been designed with sustainability in mind. It includes fourteen charging stations for electric vehicles and four charging points for the general public. The site is also equipped with LED lighting and automated lighting sensors to minimize energy consumption. FedEx has scheduled an initial three electric vehicles for deployment in 2025, as part of the company's phased approach to electrification.i
An Improved Working Environment Beyond operational efficiency and sustainability, FedEx is also investing in a comfortable and safe working environment. In addition to ergonomic workstations, modern office facilities, and a customer desk for enhanced service and direct shipments, the Vianen facility incorporates advanced safety measures. These include a security cage and weekly training sessions to ensure a secure workplace.

Defence group Saab lands profit beat, raises 2025 outlook
STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -Swedish defence material maker Saab reported a bigger-than-expected rise in second-quarter operating earnings on Friday and raised its guidance to project even stronger sales this year on the back of soaring military spending. The maker of the Gripen fighter jet in a statement said operating earnings rose to 1.98 billion Swedish crowns ($204 million) from 1.33 billion a year ago, beating a mean forecast of 1.71 billion seen in a LSEG compilation of analyst forecasts. Saab, which makes military equipment ranging from missiles and advanced electronics to submarines, said it expected like-for-like sales to grow 16-20% this year, raising its outlook from anticipated growth of 12-16%. STOCKHOLM, July 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Saab presents the results for January-June 2025. "We are strengthening our market position and see a continued large interest in our products and solutions. Saab's sales growth is high and we continue to invest to build capacity and meet long-term strong demand from the defence sector. At the same time, we continue to deliver strong profitability," says Micael Johansson, President and CEO, Saab. Key highlights Q2 2025 Order intake for the second quarter amounted to SEK 28,403m (39,574), driven by strong growth in small and medium-sized orders. Sales in the quarter amounted to SEK 19,786m (15,170) and corresponded to an organic sales growth of 32% (21). All business areas reported sales growth, with particularly strong growth in Dynamics of 73% in the quarter. EBITDA amounted to SEK 2,831m (1,961) and corresponded to an EBITDA margin of 14.3% (12.9) in the quarter. EBIT increased 49% and amounted to SEK 1,977m (1,331), corresponding to a margin of 10.0% (8.8). In the quarter, a non-recurring contribution of SEK 105m in the minority portfolio had a positive effect on EBIT. Net income increased to SEK 1,536m (1,012) and earnings per share amounted to SEK 2.83 (1.85), an increase of 53%. Operational cash flow amounted to SEK -1,136m (-2,251), and mainly reflected continued investments for capacity build-up. Net liquidity position was SEK 690m (-2,354) at the end of the period. Outlook for 2025: organic sales growth between 16-20%, compared to previous organic sales growth between 12-16%. Russia 'increasing the pace' of its gains in Ukraine despite Donald Trump's please for Vladimir Putin to end the war. The Ministry of Defence's (MoD) latest intelligence update on the conflict says Russian troops are seized more of their neighbour's territory throughout May and June. In a post on X, the MoD said: 'Russian ground forces highly likely seized approximately 550-600 square kilometres of Ukrainian territory in June 2025, an average of approximately 18-20 sq km per day. 'This was a slight increase from Russian advances in May 2025, which was itself a notable increase on the approximately 200 sq km of Ukrainian territory in April 2025.' The MoD said the gains were 'largely in rural, less built-up areas'. 'Russia has focused on identifying weak areas across the defensive line,' they said. 'Small assaults enable Russia to probe and spot opportunistic areas to break through and make further gains across the front line.' However, the intelligence update also pointed out that Russia is struggling to take fortified cities in Ukraine, choosing instead to circumvent them and try to cut off logistic and communication lines.
