MoHRE, TDRA shut 77 accounts for unlicensed domestic worker recruitment
MoHRE urges employers as well as both Emirati and resident families to only engage with licensed and approved domestic worker recruitment agencies when looking to hire this category of workers, and avoid dealing with social media accounts and pages that promote the recruitment of illegal domestic workers.
In a press statement, the Ministry clarified that dealing with unlicensed domestic worker recruitment agencies and unreliable social media pages promoting domestic worker services could lead to customers losing their legal rights, which are guaranteed when they exclusively deal with Ministry-licensed and approved agencies.
The Ministry encourages customers to contact their call centre at 600590000 to verify the reliability of any entities promoting domestic workers through social media.
A list of licensed agencies across the UAE, including their names and locations, is available on the Ministry's website.

Israel is evacuating most of its diplomatic staff from the United Arab Emirates after the National Security Council (NSC) updated its travel warning for Israelis in the Gulf state, according to local media. The UAE established formal diplomatic relations with Israel in 2020, becoming the third Arab state to do so, following Egypt in 1979 and Jordan in 1994. Earlier this week, the Emirati authorities lodged diplomatic complaints against Shelley, the Israeli ambassador, over three separate incidents. Israeli media reported that Shelley behaved inappropriately on multiple occasions and clashed with Emirati security personnel. The Times of Israel reported that UAE officials felt that Shelley crossed 'a huge red line" at a bar in Abu Dhabi and acted in an 'undignified' manner. Recognition of Palestinian state Meanwhile, international pressure on Israel over its war on Gaza grows. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday announced that the United Kingdom will recognise a Palestinian state by September unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire in Gaza. On the same day, 15 western countries, led by France, stated their willingness to move towards recognition of a Palestinian state. On Wednesday, Canada's prime minister, Mark Carney, similarly announced his intention to recognise the state of Palestine at the next UN General Assembly, which was followed by Portugal. Several Middle Eastern countries also joined in a call for "a sovereign and independent Palestinian state". International human rights organisations, including two major Israeli groups, have stated that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The United Nations' Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has cited evidence that "worst-case scenario of famine" is unfolding in Gaza due to the Israeli-imposed blockade on aid.

Iraqi forces seize Captagon in Damascus drug raid
Iraqi counter-narcotics forces seized more than 1.35 million Captagon pills during a raid in Syria's capital, in a rare and significant cross-border operation, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said on Wednesday. The operation in Damascus was the first direct security engagement between Iraq and Syria and reflects both countries' commitment to tackle the drugs threat. An elite Iraqi unit launched the mission after gathering 'precise intelligence from sources embedded in regional drug trafficking networks', a ministry statement said. The raid was carried out "in close co-operation with the Syrian Directorate of Narcotics Control", it added. The operation led to the capture of a major international drug trafficking network and the confiscation of approximately 215kg of narcotics, it added. 'This achievement represents a significant milestone in the framework of international co-operation to combat cross-border threats,' the ministry said. It emphasised Iraq's 'commitment to tracking down drug traffickers wherever they may operate'. The statement did not reveal when the raid was carried out, how many people were arrested or their identities.

Dubai Police recover jeweller's bag worth Dhs1.1 million in cross-border operation
The Dubai Police, in cooperation and coordination with Bangladeshi authorities and the UAE Embassy in Dhaka, recovered a bag containing jewellery worth Dhs1.1 million belonging to a UAE-based merchant. The Dubai Police commended the efforts of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Al Hamoudi, UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh, and his team for their cooperation in facilitating all necessary procedures and measures to recover the bag and return it to its owner in the UAE. The Ministry has expressed its gratitude for the efforts made in recovering the bag and its contents, which have been valued accordingly. The Dubai Police explained that a UAE resident merchant, who was travelling to a GCC country with the intention of participating in an exhibition featuring gold, jewellery, and diamonds with four bags containing diamonds, discovered that one of the bags was not his upon further inspection. The Dubai Police stated that the merchant had returned to the country quickly reported the incident to the General Department of Airport Security on the same day. A task force was established by the General Department of Criminal Investigation to conduct a search and investigation. They discovered that, during the inspection procedures, a Bangladeshi passenger had mistakenly taken the merchant's bag for his own due to the strong similarity between them. The man then returned home, while the merchant took his similar bag and left. The Dubai Police stated that the task force had taken legal and administrative measures by communicating with the UAE Embassy in Dhaka and the Bangladeshi authorities, resulting in the bag being returned to its owner. The Dubai Police General Command praised the collaboration with the authorities of the Republic of Bangladesh, reaffirming its commitment to bolstering international police cooperation with various law enforcement entities. This helps return stolen property to its rightful owners and ensure the happiness of the community in line with Dubai Police's strategic objectives. The merchant expressed his sincere gratitude to the Dubai Police officers who were able to recover his bag, saying: "I don't know how to thank you for your wonderful care and dedication to making people happy."
