Florida football receiver named to ESPN's 'Three freshmen to watch' list for 2025 season

USA Today06-08-2025
One of the nation's most highly touted incoming wide receivers is already earning national attention before his first snap for the Florida Gators.
Wide receiver Dallas Wilson has been named to ESPN's "Three freshmen to watch" list ahead of the 2025 college football season.
The list highlights three newcomers expected to make an immediate impact, with Wilson joining Tennessee Volunteers offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. and LSU Tigers cornerback DJ Pickett. For the Gators, the recognition adds even more excitement for an offense looking to add explosive playmakers.
The Tampa Bay Tech product flipped his commitment from the Oregon Ducks to the Gators late in the recruiting process, giving Billy Napier one of his biggest recruiting wins of the cycle.
In his high school career, Wilson recorded 130 receptions for 2,424 yards and 30 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 18.6 yards per catch. He was selected as an Under Armour All-American and a Polynesian Bowl participant.
Given his incredible resume, it's only fitting for Wilson to be included in ESPN's list of "freshmen to watch" for the 2025 college football season. Here is everything they wrote about the talented Florida receiver.
What ESPN said about Wilson
"Wilson showed up instantly by catching 10 passes for almost 200 yards and two touchdowns in Florida's spring game. No matter who starts at quarterback on Week 1 for the Gators, there's a good chance they'll develop a quick connection with Wilson.
"The 6-foot-4 Florida native has a massive catch radius, 10-inch hands and surprising breakaway speed given his frame. He runs a legitimate 4.5 40-yard dash and has the shiftiness to pick up yards after the catch, making him a nightmare matchup who should see the field early in The Swamp."

RGIII lauds Michigan's 2026 WR commit Jayden Pile as hidden gem with big potential

When it comes to the nonspecialists in the 2026 Michigan football recruiting class, the longest-tenured pledge is the lowest rated. Yet, he's getting praise and accolades from a prolific name in college football. Once the Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor, Robert Griffin III went onto the NFL before becoming a broadcaster for college football games, initially with ESPN. Griffin now has a 7-on-7 team, which features Dallas (Tx.) Parish Episcopal three-star wide receiver Jayden Pile, who has been the longest-committed player to the Wolverines 2026 class. Though he didn't get much hype, he's been pivotal in putting together the class, and on the field, despite some not loving his game, RGIII appears to not be among them. On Wednesday, RGIII posted on X (formerly Twitter) about how good he believes Pile is, unabated, noting that the maize and blue faithful will be happy with his ability once he arrives on campus. Michigan has had a knack for finding players who fly under the radar only to thrive once in Ann Arbor. It wouldn't be terribly surprising to see similar results for Pile, who is currently rated the No. 1,142 player in the country and the 173rd-best wide receiver. Even though he's been committed to Michigan since last year, Pile often gets overshadowed by his two wide receiver commit compatriots in four-stars Travis Johnson and Zion Robinson. But as we've seen, often, the Wolverines tend to do more with less -- though they have been in desperate need for top-tier wide receiver talent.

Florida football 'could be a fringe CFP squad' per Sports Illustrated

Florida football could be one of the most intriguing teams in the SEC this season. In his 2025 SEC football preview, Sports Illustrated's Bryan Fischer lists the Florida Gators among the programs capable of making noise in the College Football Playoff race. The Gators' hopes start with sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway. If he can stay healthy, then the Orange and Blue have the offensive firepower to compete with the league's heavyweights. As detailed by Fischer, Lagway is the key to Florida's success. Florida's 2025 schedule ranks among the most difficult in college football, featuring showdowns with Georgia, LSU and Texas. With head coach Billy Napier facing a make-or-break season, Fischer believes the Gators have the potential to be a "fringe CFP squad" if they maximize their talent and steer clear of critical missteps. Florida's positioned to emerge as a potential disruptor in the SEC's pecking order. For the Gators to contend, they'll need to combine resilience and good health with a few timely breaks along the way. Here is everything Fischer wrote in his 2025 preview for the Florida Gators. What SI said about Florida "It's a big if, but if QB DJ Lagway can stay healthy, the Gators at least have a shot at making some noise despite playing one of the nation's toughest schedules. There are great linemen like tackle Austin Barber back, a tailback in Jadan Baugh who is just scratching the surface at what he can do and a defense that is low on big names but heavy on dependable play every down," Fischer offers. "Billy Napier is firmly on the hot seat, but if Florida can catch a few breaks and play closer to its ceiling than its floor, this could be a fringe CFP squad."
