Clemson-South Carolina continues to be one of the most compelling rivalries in college football, and Sporting News recognized that by ranking it No. 10 on its list of the 'hottest' rivalries heading into the 2025 season.
The rankings took into account historical context and recent results, including head-to-head outcomes, winning streaks, and how often both teams were ranked during their matchups. Despite South Carolina's 17-14 win in Death Valley last season, Clemson holds a 7-2 edge over the Gamecocks in the last 10 meetings — with the 2020 game canceled due to COVID. Clemson also won in Columbia in 2023 and has taken eight of the last ten overall.
Sporting News noted, 'The Gamecocks have won both ranked matchups in the last 10 seasons – but Clemson has won the other seven meetings,' adding that the rivalry has stayed heated under Shane Beamer. The road team has won five straight in the series, and Clemson will look to extend that streak to six when it visits Williams-Brice Stadium on Nov. 29.
Clemson leads the all-time series 73-44-4 and has the most wins against South Carolina of any opponent. The Tigers are 18-6 in Columbia since 1977.
Other ACC-related rivalries in the top 25 include Florida State-Florida (No. 12), Florida State-Miami (No. 17), Louisville-Kentucky (No. 18), and Georgia Tech-Georgia (No. 23).
