Mike McDaniel gives candid answer regarding Jalen Ramsey's future

Jalen Ramsey remains with the Dolphins but for how long? The Dolphins and Ramsey both desire a split and have worked to facilitate a trade since April. Ramsey was not at the mandatory minicamp Tuesday, and coach Mike McDaniel called it an excused absence since the three-time All-Pro is not expected to be with the team this season. 'We are focused on building the Dolphins today. Anything outside of that, any sort of distractions, I'm not focused on,' McDaniel said, via Shane Shoemaker of the Sporting News. McDaniel had a blunt answer when asked if he was surprised Ramsey remains on the roster. 'Personally, I don't give a shit about what I feel,' McDaniel said. 'I don't even really go down that road of how I feel about it. My job is to react and control my controllables and make sure that people are moving in one direction appropriately. Business is business.' Ramsey, 30 hasn't made All-Pro since 2021, but he was a Pro Bowler as recently as 2023 despite playing only 10 games that season. In 2024, he totaled 60 tackles, two interceptions, a sack and 11 passes defensed in 17 games.

Kentucky Derby odds: Favorites, sleeper picks, predictions for horse field

Kentucky Derby odds: Favorites, sleeper picks, predictions for horse field Show Caption Hide Caption Kentucky Derby 2025: Baffert's return, and Journalism is the horse to watch Previewing the 151st Kentucky Derby, focusing on Journalism's chances and Bob Baffert's return. The 2025 Kentucky Derby favorite hasn't changed since the draw was announced and race week began, but the odds are shifting as the first leg of horse racing's Triple Crown approaches. Journalism still has the best chance to win the 151st running of the Race for the Roses on Saturday, according to the Kentucky Derby's latest odds at But there are several contenders lurking close behind as worthy challengers now that the 20-horse field is sorting itself out among gamblers with post positions settled. Render Judgment, which has ties to late country music star Toby Keith, and American Promise are among the horses that have seen their odds improve this week. There are also several sleeper picks to emerge due to the fluctuating odds, most notably Burnham Square. Predictions for this year's race vary. Here are the latest odds, notable favorites and potential sleepers for the 2025 Kentucky Derby, as well as information on how to watch Saturday's race: Kentucky Derby 2025 odds: Journalism leads favorites Odds as of 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 30, according to BOB BAFFERT'S KENTUCKY DERBY RETURN: Why did decorated horse trainer serve 3-year suspension? Kentucky Derby 2025 prediction: Sleeper picks Ed De Rosa, Louisville Courier Journal: Chunk of Gold (36-1) "Chunk of Gold changed tactics in the Louisiana Derby when jockey Jareth Loveberry sat a little closer to the pace. They won the battle — finishing ahead of all the front-runners — but lost the war to Tiztastic, who closed on the outside to get the top prize. Still, Chunk of Gold sold a dimension that day that could serve a purpose here." Dan Wolken, USA TODAY: Luxor Cafe (15-1) I'm going to take a bit of a different path here and pick Luxor Cafe. Watching his races from Japan, I think he is a super talent with a devastating turn of foot that many Derby winners have. Now, the quality of horses he was running against in Japan is a huge question. So is the transition to America all the external factors that come with shipping a horse halfway across the world. But Forever Young's performance last year showed that the quality of top Japanese horses is good enough now to win a Derby at some point. Maybe this year. I also expect Sovereignty to run a huge race, so that will probably be my exacta box. Sloan Piva, Sporting News: Coal Battle (30-1) "With five wins on dirt since last July and a strong third in the Arkansas Derby in late March, this horse has fierce acceleration out of the gate, impressive tactical versatility and awesome closing speed." Jody Demling, CBS Sports: Burnham Square (23-1) "Jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. is one of the top riders at Churchill Downs and he used his intimate knowledge of the grounds to help pilot Mystik Dan to a masterful win in the 2024 Kentucky Derby. ... Burnham Square was bred to handle this distance and he's one of the most proven closers in the field with come-from-behind wins in the Fountain of Youth Stakes and the Blue Grass Stakes." Sporting News lists MSU as one of early National Championship favorites for next season

Sporting News lists MSU as one of early National Championship favorites for next season It's super early, but Sporting News considers Michigan State as a National Championship contender next season Longtime college basketball analyst and reporter Mike DeCourcy has Michigan State as a national championship contender next season. Sporting News released their way-too-early top 25 rankings for next season on Monday, and DeCourcy has the Spartans as a top five team as we look ahead to the 2025-26 campaign. DeCourcy listed Michigan State at No. 5 in his early rankings for next year. DeCourcy has only the following teams ahead of the Spartans in his rankings: Duke (No. 1), Arkansas (No. 2), Houston (No. 3) and Florida (No. 4). From the Big Ten, DeCourcy included the following teams behind Michigan State: Purdue (No. 6), Michigan (No. 11), UCLA (No. 14) and Oregon (No. 22). Here's a bit of what DeCourcy had to say about the Spartans: "One of the benefits of such a deep rotation this past season is the Spartans still have a solid core group following a few transfer subtractions. Reserve point guard Tre Holloman would have been a great player to have around another year, but he also might have remained a backup if he'd stuck... The frontcourt is solid, at the very least. This obviously sounds incongruous, but it would help MSU for Tom Izzo to consider adding one serious impact transfer, preferably someone who can operate at a high level on the perimeter." Michigan State appears destined to return at least four guys with starting and key minutes experience in point guard Jeremy Fears Jr., forward Coen Carr, forward Jaxon Kohler and center Carson Cooper. Jase Richardson continues to be the true game-changer for the Spartans because if he returns, you could argue Michigan State should be even higher on this list. But if he leaves, I'd personally drop the Spartans a bit. It'll be interesting over the next few days to see where other college basketball analysts have the Spartans in their super early rankings. This may be the high-point for Michigan State, but it also could be the norm. We will see soon. John Feinstein dead at 68, wrote numerous golf books

John Feinstein dead at 68, wrote numerous golf books John Feinstein was as prolific a writer as the American sports landscape has seen in the last half-century. He wrote dozens of popular books, and had a pair of them top the New York Times bestseller's list. But while Feinstein had an affinity for tennis, basketball, baseball and football, his love for the game of golf shined through in some of his best work, including "A Good Walk Spoiled: Days And Nights on the PGA Tour" and "Caddy For Life: The Bruce Edwards Story." Feinstein, who worked for the Washington Post, Sporting News and as a contributor at Golf Digest, died on Thursday at the age of 68. A New York City native, Feinstein was a fixture on television and radio for decades, but he was primarily known for in-depth print work that demanded intense reporting. 'My biggest problem as a writer has always been to figure out what to leave out. And that's always good, because when I'm writing, if I'm hitting the word count every 15 minutes, I haven't done my reporting,' Feinstein told Golfweek's Steve DiMeglio in 2017 after completing "The First Major: The Inside Story of the 2016 Ryder Cup." 'If I'm writing and I look and see I've written 2,000 words in the last hour, then I've done my job. And this book was like that.' According to an obituary in the Washington Post, the death was confirmed by his brother, Robert, although the cause was not known. Here's more from the Post obituary:

Myles Garrett gets another end-of-year award

Another year, another award for Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett. The Sporting News announced Garrett as their NFL Defensive Player of the Year. It's the second straight time he has been selected for the award. The defensive star managed to have another incredible season amidst the Browns' struggles in 2024. Garrett managed to repeat his incredible sack total from 2023 with another 14.0 this season. He also managed to collect 47 total tackles in his 17 games played, five more than his last year total. Garrett is also nominated to secure his second straight NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, which is expected to be announced at the 14th Annual Honors Ceremony on February 6th. Myles Garrett's accomplishments are one of, if not the only silver lining from the Browns past season. Most of the focus shifted towards the Cleveland Browns' future draft picks this April, but Garrett's talent has once again kept them in the spotlight of the NFL awards. We'll see if he can secure his second-straight NFL honor when the league's award winners are announced on February 6th.
