Hanover culminates unbeaten season with dominating win over Brookline in Division 2 boys' rugby state final
The top-seeded Hawks (9-0) started the season as the Division 2 favorites, rolled through their early opponents, then kept getting better. The culmination was a 59-7 demolition of No. 2 Brookline (7-3) in Saturday's state championship.
Less than a minute after Mofford's try, Love'on Flowers burst through the Warriors' line for a 60-yard, highlight-reel try, his second of the day. Fellow seniors Lochlan Garvey, Matthew Bellerby, David Bonilla and Camden Scott and sophomore Daniel McAvay also scored tries. Garvey nailed 7 of 9 on conversions, with two from the tightest angle on the field.

Brookline senior Nate Lockwood scored the Warriors' only try, and made the ensuing conversion, late in the second half.
After full-time, Mofford was reduced to tears.
'This sport means so much to me,' he said. 'We've been beaten down time and time again, and this was the last hurrah.'
The Hawks were eliminated by three-peat champion Weymouth in each of the previous three seasons — twice in the title game. When the Wildcats moved up to Division 1 this season, the Hawks wasted no time.
'Today was as close to perfect as we've been all season,' said coach Andy McLean.

In slick conditions, BC High rugby weathers Xaverian to grind out another Division 1 title
Junior hooker Max Ford scored the critical insurance try 15 minutes into the second half, extending the Eagles' lead to 13. With the ball slippery in rainy conditions, the Hawks struggled to advance all day, until a clever forward kick was recovered by senior captain Luke Bell and walked in for a try with two minutes to go. Advertisement Xaverian (4-1-1) entered averaging 38 points a game. 'During the week, we were getting water bottles and soaking the balls. We knew it was going to be raining,' BC High senior captain Mikey Smith said. 'So it happened through our preparation.' Senior fullback Charlie Thomison was the star for BC High (7-0), finishing with multiple significant carries, including one that set up freshman flanker Cillian O'Callaghan's first-half try. Thomison also converted a short penalty kick to open the scoring. After a 36-35 win in the regular season and the 40-38 decision in last year's championship, the Eagles have now won their last three matches with the Hawks by a combined 10 points. Yet another championship moment for Izzy Kittredge as Medfield girls' lacrosse repeats in Division 3
'She shows up for the big games,' said Medfield coach Mary Laughna. 'She loves to compete. She loves winning. She can take over those games.' It's the second straight title, third in four years, and fourth overall for Medfield, which swiftly retooled after losing all-time great Kelly Blake and the rest of a strong Class of 2024.
