Actors condemn complaint lodged against Shwetha Menon
A section of the actors in the Malayalam film industry has come out against the first information report (FIR) registered against actor Shwetha Menon under Section 67 A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 on charges of making financial gains through her roles in movies having alleged vulgar and obscene content. Actor Maala Parvathi said in a social media post that she suspected a conspiracy behind the complaint lodged by a native of Ernakulam as Shwetha is contesting the election to the post of president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). The FIR was lodged by the Ernakulam Central police based on a directive issued by the First Class Judicial Magistrate, Ernakulam, on Wednesday (August 6, 2025). She alleged that it 'may be a handiwork of somebody whose wish to head the organisation had failed to materialise. Such a conspiracy was plotted against actor Kukku Parameswaran, who is contesting for the post of general secretary,' she said. Nonsense, says Devan Senior actor Devan, who is contesting for the post of president of AMMA, termed the complaint as 'nonsense and filed with an ulterior motive.' 'It will not stand the test of law. We may have differences within, but no member of the actors' body will support such a baseless allegation,' he said. Actor Raveendran, who is contesting for the post of general secretary, said the association would jointly oppose any move to defame members on the basis of such baseless allegations. An inquiry should be done on how this complaint had emerged as it was done with a malicious intent, he said.

Case against Malayalam actor Shweta Menon for allegedly acting in vulgar films
The Ernakulam Central Police have registered a case against prominent Malayalam actor Shweta Menon on the basis of a complaint that alleged she acted in films and advertisements with obscene and vulgar content with the intent of earning money. The case was registered under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act 1956, section 5, 3 and Information Technology Act 2000, Section 67(A), as per directions of the came at a time when she was contesting for the post of president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) elections scheduled for August 15. There was support growing for Shweta, and it looked like the association might get a woman president for the first time. The entire committee of AMMA led by then-president Mohanlal had resigned after allegations against some of the office bearers, including actors Siddique and Baburaj, emerged following the Hema Committee FIR against Shweta Menon was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Martin Menachery, a social worker. The complainant alleged that the content was spread through social media and adult sites to gain popularity and was misused to make financial gains. According to the police, the case is in a very preliminary stage of investigation. They registered the case as directed by the court. They will probe the case and look into the matter to see if the allegations will stand.
