Dancing On Ice pro-dancer rushed to hospital to undergo life-changing surgery

Dancing On Ice favourite Brendyn Hatfield has opened up about his recent surgery following a secret health struggle that left him gasping for air.
The 39-year-old professional skater, who joined the ITV show in 2019, took to social media with a video explaining his ordeal with severe asthmatic symptoms over the past year, despite never having suffered from asthma before.
Starting off with a light-hearted Ace Ventura impression, Brendyn's update quickly turned serious as he disclosed: "It's a big day tomorrow. Going in for a little bit of surgery. Everybody close to me knows what's going on."
He detailed how his problems began around eighteen months ago when he started experiencing unexpected asthma attacks, leading to multiple A&E visits. He shared: "Never dealt with it my whole life. Like breathing – it's been really hard."
Following extensive tests, doctors found several sinus complications and suggested surgery. However, after an accidental discharge from NHS care last October, Brendyn was informed he wouldn't be seen again until December 2025.
Expressing his frustration, he said: "I can't live like this anymore. So it's not a massive surgery, but the bill sure is – because the NHS could not fit me in for another year."
Pro skater Brendyn Hatfield shared his optimism amidst a "clerical error" delay, reassuring fans on social media: "I'm excited to get it done...everything works out in the end and you just keep going, you know?"
The seasoned pro, who dazzled audiences over five seasons of Dancing On Ice, has announced he'll sit out the 2025 installment of the beloved ITV ice-dancing competition, reports the Mirror.

In the wake of his announcement, ITV delivered the surprising news that Dancing On Ice is set to hang up its skates in 2026. An ITV spokesperson stated: "Following another successful series earlier this year, Dancing On Ice will be rested in 2026 with no current plans for another series.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the cast and crew who have worked on the show since 2006, and over the previous 17 series, for all of their hard work both on and off the ice," added the spokesperson.

Off the rink, Brendyn is romantically linked to former S Club 7 icon Rachel Stevens, who recently dubbed him her "soulmate" in a heartfelt Instagram tribute for his landmark 40th birthday.
The songstress had previously acknowledged that her partnership with Brendyn dealt the final blow to her already rocky relationship with Alex Bourne, particularly during her own spell on Dancing On Ice.

Speaking candidly with the Sun, she opened up about her personal life upheavals, saying: "It was messy. I knew that we were growing, that I was growing apart, but I was in turmoil, because, first of all, my kids."
Rachel admitted that it was "really scary" to confess to her husband that she was falling for Brendyn, knowing that it would mark the end of their relationship. However, she expressed relief at having done so, describing her new partner as "a beautiful human" and expressing deep affection for him.
Dancing On Ice is being rested for 2026, it is expected not to return to ITV until 2027. Past episodes are available to stream on ITVX.
