Eris Lifesciences to target insulin, semaglutide mkt opportunities in FY26
For Q1FY26, Eris Lifesciences recorded a 40 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) rise in consolidated profit after tax (PAT) to ₹125 crore. Revenue rose to ₹773 crore during the June quarter against ₹720 crore in the year-ago period.
'We expect that Novo's cartridge inventory in the market will run out by October. So this market opportunity is something that one can start monetising from the November-December time frame,' the company's executive director and chief executive officer (CEO) Krishnakumar Vaidyanathan told Business Standard.
He added that the timing fits Eris' plans as its Bhopal unit's cartridge filling capability will start getting operational from January. Vial manufacturing has already been commissioned at the Bhopal unit, with the company creating a strategic stock of insulins.
This comes at a time when Eris already is the largest domestic player in insulin. The company had last year acquired the India formulations business of Biocon Biologics last year, including established insulin brands Basalog and Insugen.
'Before the Biocon deal, we had a couple of homegrown insulin brands in the market, which did a combined ₹60 crore in revenue last year. Basalog and Insugen had combined revenues of ₹200 crore at the time of acquisition,' he said.
He added that with this, the company's insulin franchise has become really large with a 10 per cent market share. Eris is also among the prominent drugmakers looking to roll out generic versions of blockbuster molecule semaglutide once its patent expires around March next year.
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide 1) receptor agonist that is used as an active pharmaceutical ingredient in medications for obesity management and Type-II diabetes.
According to Eris' investor presentation for the June quarter of the financial year 2025-26 (Q1FY26), the company is on track to be among the first launches in India in March 2026.
The company has initiated validation of synthetic semaglutide cartridges at its European Union (EU)-approved AMD injectables site. 'We are also planning the validation of the recombinant semaglutide in our Bhopal plant later this year,' he added.
As far as the go-to market is concerned, the company said it is already in a strong position because of its dominant position in insulins and prior presence in the GLP market with the launch of Liraglutide in September last year.

Rate-sensitives weigh on Indian shares after RBI holds rates, stays neutral
By Bharath Rajeswaran and Vivek Kumar M (Reuters) -Indian shares fell on Wednesday, led by rate-sensitive stocks, after the central bank held its key rates and maintained a 'neutral' policy stance, disappointing some investors who were expecting a dovish tilt amid rising global trade uncertainty. The Nifty 50 was down 0.4% at 24,551.1 points and the BSE Sensex lost 0.3% to 80,466.22, as of 11:10 a.m. IST. Both benchmarks traded flat ahead of the Reserve Bank of India's policy decision, but fell about 0.3% each soon after the rate pause. While maintaining that the domestic economic outlook remained "bright" despite global trade headwinds, the RBI held rates steady, as expected, and kept its policy stance at "neutral", following a surprise 50-basis point cut in June. "Given that the Indian rupee is weakening and global interest rate differentials are narrowing, the scope for a rate reduction was slim," said Umesh Kumar Mehta, chief investment officer at SAMCO Mutual Fund. Despite rising expectations of a softer stance, the RBI played it safe and that was likely its best option, three analysts said. All 16 major sectors logged losses. The broader small-caps and mid-caps fell around 1.4% and 1.2%, respectively, with analysts attributing their underperformance to greater exposure to the domestic economy and higher sensitivity to borrowing costs. Rate-sensitive sectors such as realty lost 2.4%, while consumer and auto indexes fell 0.9% each. Financials reversed early gains to trade 0.3% lower. Among individual stocks, biscuit maker Britannia lost 2% after missing profit estimates in the June quarter. Telecom services provider Bharti Airtel gained 1% after posting a jump in first-quarter profit, aided by new user additions and the lingering benefits of last year's price hikes. Bharti Airtel's unit Bharti Hexacom lost 2.5% after logging a lower June-quarter profit. Software productivity platform CodeKarma raises $2.5 million from Prosus, Accel, others
ETtech CodeKarma, a software productivity platform, has raised $2.5 million in its maiden funding round led by Dutch investment firm Prosus, Silicon Valley-based venture capital (VC) firm Accel and Xeed Ventures (formerly known as 021 Capital). The company is currently valued at $10 round also saw participation from SenseAI Ventures and Stargazer Ventures. CodeKarma founder and chief executive Ananth Vanchi told ET that the company plans to use the funds to accelerate product development and innovation, expand into markets like the US, and hire new talent. The funding comes amid the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) tools that are reshaping the coding process.'Although technology was advancing a fundamental issue remained unresolved and this was a significant pain point for almost every developer engineering manager and product manager which was understanding how their product was actually functioning for the end customer,' Vanchi said. Founded in 2024, the software productivity platform enables human developers as well as AI systems by bringing real-time production insights directly into the development workflow. It helps developers in identifying hidden risks, eliminating unused code, and shipping better software faster. 'Every enterprise that has been around for at least five to six years and gone through significant product and people churn, is a clear target for our product. We natively integrate with every AI coding tool available because, as we speak, more and more code is being written by AI than by humans,' he said. The Bengaluru-based startup operates across various sectors, including ecommerce, fintech and logistics, charging enterprises based on how many microservices they use on its platform.'At least 40% of a developer's time goes into figuring out how systems are functioning, rather than improving them. CodeKarma's insights help teams understand how things are working, so they can build software better,' Vanchi added. Commenting on the investment Dhruv Gupta, investor, Prosus said, 'As AI accelerates software creation, the cost of unmanaged complexity, especially tech debt, will rise sharply. CodeKarma addresses this challenge by creating a persistent relay between production and development.''By integrating with most AI-IDEs like Cursor or Copilot to create the bridge between dev time and run time for debugging & refactoring, and especially excelling at large code bases, their platform positions them to become a critical infrastructure layer for all engineering teams,' said Subrata Mitra, partner, Accel. Last month, vision AI mobile app testing platform Drizz raised $2.7 million in its maiden funding round, which was led by early-stage venture capital firm Stellaris Venture Partners.
