Ally McCoist rages at Alexander Isak over Liverpool transfer saga - 'I've got a problem'
The 25-year-old has made his position crystal clear that he has no intention of representing the club again, while pushing for a switch to Liverpool. Isak issued a statement on Tuesday, suggesting what he maintained were assurances that the club had failed to honor, though Newcastle swiftly responded to refute any such commitments had been given.
This leaves Eddie Howe with no choice but to persist without the Swedish forward, with Liverpool visiting St. James' Park next Monday for what promises to be a thrilling Premier League encounter.

Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist, who had previously condemned Isak's handling of the situation, once more emphasised that the striker had pursued his desired transfer through the incorrect channels.
While he acknowledges that there are always multiple perspectives to consider, he believes Isak is primarily disappointing the Newcastle faithful with his present position
He said: "The right way to do it is, you put in a transfer request or you have a chat with the manager and say, look, I want to play my football somewhere else, whatever, and the manager will then sit down and have a chat with you.
"The way he went about it, you could clearly say he had a problem with Newcastle or a problem with somebody at Newcastle.
"My argument is he still shouldn't and can't do what he did.
"Throwing the toys at the pram is one thing, but actually making the statement that you're not going to play for the club again and let yourself down, let the fans down. That's where I've got a problem.
"I understand he'll feel let down, I get that, and we can argue about the rights and wrongs of the gentlemen's agreement.
"Who's let them down? Are they out of order? Was it previous owners? Do the new owners feel obliged to honour a gentleman's agreement made by the previous owners?
"That's all up for debate and that's a conversation that we can and will have.
"What's not up for debate is him throwing the toys out at the pram and then saying, I'm not playing for you anymore?
"I think he's particularly letting the fans down."
Isak won't be available for Liverpool's visit to Tyneside on Monday, with Anthony Gordon expected to lead the line against Arne Slot's team once more.

Noah Lyles loses to Oblique Seville in the 100 at rain-soaked Lausanne meet
LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Olympic 100-meter champion Noah Lyles was beaten again by Oblique Seville when the Jamaican splashed to victory Wednesday at a rain-soaked Athletissima meet. Seville defied steady rain and standing water on the track to impress in 9.87 seconds — just .01 outside his winning time at London last month when Lyles also was second in his injury-delayed season. 'We can perform even in hurricanes,' Seville told Swiss broadcaster RTS. 'For me it's just execution and to show my dominance, to separate myself from the field — once again.' Lyles clocked 10.02 in his third straight loss over 100 meters on the Diamond League circuit ahead of defending his world title in Tokyo next month. The United States star trailed out of the blocks then chased down fast-starting Ackeem Blake in the next lane. Blake was given the same time in third. 'I just had a horrible reaction to the gun,' Lyles said. 'Physically I feel great and I am confident every race will get better and better.' Seville placed eighth in the Paris Olympics final last year when his Jamaica teammate Kishane Thompson was edged on the line by Lyles. Thompson is fastest in the world this year — clocking 9.75 in June — and won Saturday in Poland when Lyles was second in an encouraging 9.90. Heavy rain marred the women's field events for Olympic champions at the 50th anniversary meet in Lausanne. High jump world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh opted to stop after one failure each at 1.86 meters and then 1.91, and javelin gold medalist Haruka Kitaguchi placed last. The women's pole vault event was stopped entirely. Standout performances early in the program, when the rain was just light, saw Olympic 800 champion Keely Hodgkinson win in 1 minute, 55.69 seconds and Cordell Tinch take the 110 hurdles victory in 12.98 seconds. ___ AP sports:

Inter Milan flop Kristjan Asllani is reportedly closer to joining Torino than Bologna despite earlier reports. According to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, the Albanian midfielder's transfer to Renato Dall'Ara is on the verge of collapse. Despite jumping to the head of the queue, Bologna will likely miss out on Asllani's signature. Indeed, Inter have rejected their loan offer as they continue to insist on an immediate sale. Furthermore, Vincenzo Italiano's men have failed to convince Kristjan Asllani to join them. Inter Milan Bust Kristjan Asllani Close to Joining Torino MONZA, ITALY – AUGUST 12: Kristjan Asllani of FC Internazionale gestures during the Pre-season Friendly match between AC Monza and FC Internazionale at U-Power Stadium on August 12, 2025 in Monza, Italy. (Photo by) Torino have taken advantage of Bologna's slow progress in negotiations with the Nerazzurri. Moreover, they are looking to match Rossoblu's offer, considering Inter have accepted their terms. Indeed, they've approved Bologna's bid worth €9.5 million plus 40% on future resale. However, both clubs are keen to sign the 23-year-old on loan with an option to buy. Therefore, they need Inter to soften their stance and agree to let the former Empoli starlet leave on loan.

Chelsea confirm Lauren James out for ‘period of time' after injury from 2025 European Championship
Chelsea have confirmed that Lauren James picked up an injury during the 2025 European Championship. The London club said in a statement on their website that she will be sidelined while she rehabilitates, but did not indicate the length of time this will be for. James started the Euros final against Spain, which England won on penalties, but was taken off in the 40th minute. Head coach Sarina Wiegman had revealed she was working her way back to fitness before the game, after the Chelsea forward had been brought off at half-time during the semi-final and was seen with ice around her right ankle during the second half. England won the tournament on penalties after Alessia Russo cancelled out 2024/25 PFA Women's Players' Player of the Year Mariona Caldentey's opener. James has been at Women's Super League champions Chelsea since the summer of 2021. She rejoined the London club from Manchester United, after spending time at Chelsea's academy as a youth player. Another injury worry Analysis When James went straight into the European Championships after a three-month injury layoff it ran the risk she would play a significant number of minutes over a condensed period of time for England and re-injure herself. The 23-year-old has also been susceptible to injury and struggled to maintain her fitness over the last few seasons. There is no denying her quality. On her day, she is unstoppable and a world class talent. She worked hard to make it back in time for the Euros and another setback will be extremely frustrating. Although the timeline is unspecified, she needs time to rebuild herself and Chelsea will have to be patient to make sure when she comes back, she comes back for good.
