SINGAPORE, May 31 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has taken the initiative to invite different groups in the Myanmar conflict for a dialogue in Kuala Lumpur in a bid to find a lasting solution to the ongoing crisis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
He said the invitation was extended to the groups last month.
'I've started…and I urge my counterparts to send their teams, officials and military personnel intelligence to continue to engage,' he said during a question-and-answer session following his Special Address at the Shangri-La Dialogue, here.
When asked about the possibility of elections in Myanmar, Anwar said the immediate priority is to ensure peace, security, and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
He noted that ASEAN leaders have continued to push for an extended ceasefire and the protection of all humanitarian aid workers.
'If the elections are fair and more inclusive and do not exclude parties, then of course, we are ready to accept, although (the process) may not be perfect,' he added.
Myanmar's State Administration Council (SAC), in March, announced that they will hold a general election either in December this year or January 2026 at the latest, according to international media reports.

King calls on people to bolster unity, reminds leaders to avoid divisive politics

HIS Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has reminded leaders against politicising sensitive issues, which could fuel discord within society and threaten the nation's stability. His Majesty stated that the existence of more political parties or factions within parties would lead to a widened rift among the people, resulting in escalating enmity among them. 'Use your wisdom before making any decisions. There is no greater gift to me than a united rakyat. 'I have mentioned before that there is a virus that will strike our nation. Now, this virus has begun to spread and cannot be cured. I often speak of this so that we do not easily forget,' His Majesty said. Sultan Ibrahim was speaking during the Royal Address at the Investiture Ceremony for the year 2025 in conjunction with the King's official birthday celebration at Istana Negara. Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, the Queen of Malaysia, was also in attendance. Present at the ceremony were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Cabinet Ministers. His Majesty also called on all Malaysians to keep fostering unity as a gift to him. Sultan Ibrahim also announced a Royal Tour across the Federal Territories to witness firsthand the lives of the people and distribute tithes to the poor and eight categories of asnaf beneficiaries. — BERNAMA

National TVET Day reflects govt commitment to creating dynamic workforce, says Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: National TVET Day, celebrated annually on June 2, is a way for the government to position technical and vocational education and training (TVET) as a primary pathway to producing a dynamic, highly skilled, and future-ready workforce. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the celebration highlighted the progress of the country's TVET ecosystem as a key driver of human capital development, while also serving as a platform that offers educational and career opportunities in the TVET sector. In a post on X in conjunction with the National TVET Day celebration on Monday (June 2), Ahmad Zahid, who is also the National TVET Council Committee chairman, said the efforts made were in line with the Malaysia Madani framework, which places the TVET agenda as one of the priorities. The efforts, he said, include expanding access to TVET education to rural students, improving training facilities, and encouraging youth who want to build future careers through skills. "In fact, with the strong support of various parties, including the government, private sector, educational institutions and the community, TVET will remain the main thrust in building a more inclusive, progressive and globally competitive Malaysia," he said. In this regard, Ahmad Zahid invited the public to join in the celebration of National TVET Day 2025, to be held from June 11 to 13 at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), Melaka. The theme of this year's TVET celebration is "TVET, the Top Career Choice". - Bernama
