Asia Cup India squad: Iyer, Jaiswal decision reportedly made as Agarkar prepares for press conference
The BCCI selectors have reportedly made their decision regarding Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal for India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025. Ajit Agarkar is expected to announce the squad next week during a press conference. India's imaginary squad for the Asia Cup 2025 keeps changing every day, with one or the other source leaking out some contradictory news. The latest to go out of the squad are Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The latter apparently has been asked by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to concentrate on red-ball cricket. Just a few days back, a report in the Times of India had claimed that Iyer would be making his comeback to the T20I side after an impressive Champions Trophy 2025 and Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He was the highest run-getter in the Champions Trophy with 243 runs and in IPL, Iyer amassed 604 runs as his Punjab Kings side reached the final. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'We need Iyer's class and experience in the middle order in all formats,' a BCCI source told the Times of India. Now things have changed, reportedly. A BCCI source has told the same newspaper that Iyer, Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are set to lose out on the Asia Cup squad. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson will continue to be the openers. 'In fact, with India looking to persist with the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, Gill is currently struggling to even make it to the side. Even Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had a great series in England, and middle-order bat Shreyas Iyer are likely not to be picked for the T20 side. Jaiswal has been told by the selectors to focus on red-ball cricket,' a source told TOI. If Gill is not picked, then Axar Patel may continue as the vice-captain. Team India squad selection on 19 August The latest TOI report added that the selection meeting will take place on 19 August in Mumbai, which will be attended by captain Suryakumar Yadav. The team will be announced in a press conference on the same day by chief selector Ajit Agarkar. The Asia Cup 2025 will start on 9 September. India's first match is against the UAE in Dubai on 10 September.

Virendar Sehwag recalls how he thought of retiring from ODIs during series against Australia in 2007/08: ‘MS Dhoni dropped me from the side…'
Virendar Sehwag was way ahead of his time. Back in the day, he used to play at a strike rate and consistency that is equivalent to modern standards. However, the flip side of the approach is that players do go through a poor run of form in certain phases of their career due to their attacking intent. And Sehwag, during the 2007/08 tour to Australia, from five games, managed to score 81 runs, and then skipper MS Dhoni decided to drop Sehwag from the side. 'In the 2007-08 series against Australia, I played the first three matches and then MS Dhoni dropped me from the side. I wasn't picked for a while after that. Then I felt that if I can't be a part of the playing XI, then there was no point in my playing ODI cricket,' said Sehwag, speaking to Padamjeet Sehrawat. 'Then I went to Tendulkar and said, 'I am thinking of retiring from ODIs'. He said, 'No, I went through a similar phase in 1999-2000, where I felt I should leave cricket. But that phase came and went. So, you are going through a trough, but it will pass. Don't make any decision when you are emotional. Give yourself some time and 1-2 series, and then take a call.' When that series ended, I played in the next series and made a lot of runs. I played the 2011 World Cup and we won the World Cup as well,' Sehwag added. In a glorious international career spanning over 12 years, Sehwag played 104 Tests scoring 8586 runs at an impressive average of 49.34, hitting 23 centuries and 32 half-centuries. He is the only triple centurion in Tests for India having scored career-best knock of 319 against Pakistan at Multan, which also is an Indian record. He is also one of those rare batsmen to have scored two triple ton with his next one (309) coming against South Africa. In 251 ODIs, he accumulated 8273 runs at an average of 35.05 and scored 15 hundreds apart from hitting 38 fifties. In 19 Twenty20 Internationals, he managed 394 runs with two half-centuries.

33,17,82,137 Cr Dispute: Cricket Board Terminates Kings Franchise, Heres Why
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suspended the Chittagong Kings franchise of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after terminating its agreement with the former owners, SQ Sports Enterprise Ltd., due to persistent financial violations. The BCB revealed that the franchise owes over 46 crore taka, which includes unpaid dues from the 2012 and 2013 BPL seasons, outstanding payments from the 2025 season, and accumulated interest spanning 12 years. 46 Crore Taka in Indian Rupees = 33,17,82,137.60 Indian Rupee SQ Sports consistently failed to fulfill its financial and contractual responsibilities, including franchise fees, taxes, and player and staff salaries. Despite numerous reminders and legal actions since 2013, payments were not made. A settlement agreement signed in September 2024 also went unfulfilled, leading the board to cancel the deal on July 22, 2025, and pursue further legal measures. During the 2025 BPL season, the Kings failed to pay head coach Shaun Tait's full salary, as well as the wages of players and support personnel. Even former brand ambassador Shahid Afridi was not paid the entire amount owed, which SQ Sports' Samir Quader Chowdhury described as a private issue. The franchise also faced payment disputes with host Yasha Sagar, resulting in legal notices and counter-statements during the tournament. 2025 Season Despite off-field troubles, the Chittagong Kings had a successful 2025 BPL season, finishing second in the league stage with eight wins and four losses, earning 16 points and a strong net run rate of +1.395. A highlight came on January 16, when Graham Clark's explosive 101 off 50 balls led to a 45-run victory over the Khulna Tigers. After an early defeat in the league, the Kings hit their stride and carried momentum into the playoffs. They lost Qualifier 1 to Fortune Barishal by nine wickets but bounced back thrillingly in Qualifier 2, with Al Islam's last-ball four clinching a nail-biting 164-run chase against Khulna's 163. The Kings reached the final and posted an imposing 194/3, but Barishal chased down the target with three wickets remaining, denying Chittagong their first title. Chittagong Kings have seen various international cricketers like Moen Ali, Chris Gayle, Angelo Matthews etc dawning their jersey.
